Bellingham was a really strong shout at the beginning of the season but he's slowed down. He seems more tired in games now and isn't showing up every game like he was. I think he's still the favourite based on the fact that the other players have been injured or playing in a league that isnt really respected, I think this ballon dor will be heavily dependent on the euros.
I agree. International tournaments always hold the most weight. Whoever wins player of the tournament and wins the Euros will sky rocket in the Ballon D’or voting. The favorites are France or England so it’s probably between Mbappe and all the England boys.

Great video Nick! One thing I did want to mention that is pretty interesting is the difference between Europa and UCL. Because we had quite a similar situation in 2018, Antoine Griezmann had a crazy year, 3rd in the league with Atleti, won the Europa and even won the World Cup as one of the best players of the tournament. But because Modric won the UCL and had gone to the World Cup final he ended up winning the Ballon D'Or. I could see something very similar happen here with Wirtz and Bellingham/Vini Jr.

I think whoever wins the champions league will dictate the next ballondor winner. If PSG wins then mbappe, if bayern Kane, etc. Its really close atm imo and if leverkusen were in the UCL Wirtz has a good chance to win it.

And it's not just abiut the numers, but their importance. Vini has shown up in all big matches this season, agains Girona, Barcelona 2x, Valencia, Manchester City, Bayern... He is the face of the team

I still think Woden is the most in form player at the moment, he has been sensational for city at such a young age. We will see what happens as time rolls on

I'd personally argue Grimaldo has been more instrumental for Leverkusen than Writz has Plus, 31 goal contributions from a defender is insane (even if he is a very attack minded defender) I'd love to see a defender win the ballon d'or. The last time it happened was in 2006 with Cannavaro. That was 18 years ago
We all know deep down that the ballon d'or doesn't always pick the best player in that specific year. Look at the most recent one where messi won it even though Haaland, Rodri and KDB all contributed a lot to a historic treble for city.
Wirtz, Grimaldo and Frimpong should all be very high on the ballon d`or list. The ballon d`or has always had a huge Madrid and Barcelona bias(majority of ballon d`or winners throughout history have played for either of these two clubs) And that was before Messi and Cr7 alone inflated the winning numbers for Barcelona and Madrid in ballon d`or wins. i honestly think that Rodri or Wirtz should win the ballon d`or.

It doesnt matter how many goals u score as seen with Haaland, it matters how u score them, u dribble past 3-4 defenders and score 75 goals but u cant win titles u definitely will be nominated for ballon dor and u will only lose if there are similar candidates that also won titles.
It's not that it's an official requirement. Team success just affects how people perceive a player's performance. The ones who are voting are experts and professionals. None of them will have watched all games of all top players. So they are always relying on highlights, PR, and things like team success. It's not fair but it is what it is.

I feel like if Germany would do well at the Euros, I think you should at least consider a player like Toni Kross. I mean he has been excellent for RM and if Germany really goes far in the Euros he will 100% play a huge role in this team. Indeed, we would have a similar story to Luka Modric in 2018.

Rodri is never mentioned. Like what if Dortmund wins the UCL and Spain wins the Euros? That could leave Kane with no trophies, Jude with a La Liga title and Supercopa, and Foden with a Premier League title and maybe an FA Cup. The fact Rodri could be winning more titles than all the nominees with the Premier League, FA Cup, and Euros and still not get a mention in my eyes is disrespectful. Manchester City have earned more points when Rodri is playing than when Foden is playing. If Rodri wasn’t playing this season then City wouldn’t even be in the title race.
I believe Vini is too low. Even with his injury he’s contributed more to Goals than Kane & Foden I would say. Jude has slowed down A LOT since the beginning of the season. Genuinely think Vini should be topn3 considering foden is out of Champ league.

There’s no favorite for the Ballon Dor this year as all the players are on the same level. Whoever wins the champions league and has a deep run in the EUROs, will win the Ballon Dor. No matter how well you play domestically, people value the champions league and international competitions and if you win one of them. Mbappe Bellingham Kane Vini Wirtz Rodri Foden etc are all strong contenders and I missing someone maybe I can throw Bernardo Silva into the mix Kroos Rudiger etc. . I think we’ll have a clear idea on who’s winning the Ballon Dor whoever wins the champions league and or the EUROs.
In my opinion Toni Kroos and Rodri should also definitely be in the running. They have been amazing. Same with Grimaldo. I personally think he deserves it even more than Writz. Also I didn't really notice Rudiger as much at the start of the season but recently he's definitely had more than Ballon d'Or worthy performances.

The only thing is that wirtz really doesnt have any bug game moments this year, except for that goal v Roma in the semis, but in their Bundesliga winning campaign he really doesn’t have any of the key moments to tie or win games, whilst other players like vini and Bellingham do have those factors, wirtz needs to show up in the rest of europa league, dfb pokal or the euros

Wirtz is not popular enough... But if its not about cloud, it should be Wirtz - best player on the best team; he might gain enough media attention if he can perform at the Euros... but from what I have seen the others are good but not as good as him.
