I had a bunch of lots in this auction tagged mostly for my amusement but didn't watch it as the lots I was considering buying were already pushing what I would have bid before it started. Next time don't go through Liveauctioneers, use proxibid.com to do your buying. The bidder's premium there was only 21% which isn't much but you start spending big $$$ adds up, and at least helps with shipping otherwise. Also, I don't know what the Liveauctioneers posting had listed, but the Proxibid listing for the Gibson Spirit had a photo of the box the P-94 pickup came in and the original Tim Shaw was part of the lot (still went a bit high IMHO.) Search guitars on the site once a week or so, not much passes through but I've seen some decent deals. I actually mostly do firearms auctions through them with similar reactions to yours, watching people bid items that are "as is" and that the haven't inspected in person up to where I could buy them from a reputable source with some sort of guarantee! www.proxibid.com/Art-Antiques-Collectibles/Antiques/Gibson-Spirit-Electric-Guitar/lotInformation/57134754

That Epiphone G310 Junior with a P90 is actually a guitar with quite the cult following. It was only available for a time during the late '90s and was not like the regular Epi Juniors, which are usually one humbucker guitars (at least then), but instead close to a '60s Junior. That gave them quite the cult following, as during that time, it was a fairly cheap way to get an SG Junior with a P90. Since them, they've held their value, or even gone up. I had one for a short while, got it for a steal at $80 and was going to sell it for $175 and just got flooded with bids - I ended up using it for a trade (with some cash) for a Highway One Strat, so it was easily the most profitable guitar I ever owned (I ended up paying less for a USA Strat than a MIM!) So while it was definitely above what I would say it's worth, with the following that model has, it's not THAT weird. And keep in mind all guitars have really shot through the roof in value this year.
@maxmustardman298
@maxmustardman298 3 года назад
Would you say the rise in value this year has been due to people stuck at home and wanting guitars all of a sudden, or do you think its also something else ?
@gabrielledebourg2487

@@maxmustardman298 Without a doubt it’s because people are stuck at home. It’s increased demand for guitars by a lot, which have helped drive up the prices.

At 1:38: The "Copper Colored Electric Guitar" is a 1959 Spiegel Baritone. Spiegel ordered a batch in '59 from Danelectro. Sears was not happy with this, as they were buying thier "Silvertone" line from Dano. Pointed head, outlined guard of a different shape than Dano, no logo. Somebody knew what it was. I would say it's worth $2500+.

Could you please reactivate the subtitle option on your videos. I am profoundly deaf and yours was one of the few channel’s that offered the subtitle (closed caption) option on all of your videos, so I was shocked to find that the option was not available on this latest video. When I can read your content, I really do love your channel. I know that it might sound odd requesting subtitles on a predominantly music channel but I do have a valid reason for making the request (I have recently become profoundly deaf). I shall not go into the details, suffice to say that opening this option will give you at least one extra viewer. (Been a subscriber for a long time). Many thanks.

HOLY SHIT!!! Anyone see what those Fender Harvard's and Tone Kings were going for!!! Even that plexi gibsonette looks like it was going for a third its avg market price. I have a Tone King Sky King and can say without a doubt that its one of the best amps on the market period... you can't get a bad sound out of it... you can rock out in your bedroom with beautiful tube distortion and not bother your dog or significant other or you can play large open venues and its still more than enough, plus it'll do clean black face Fender or a crunchy Tweed all the way to a singing Vintage Plexi tone. All while having reverb, tremolo, and the capability to attenuate each channel and leave them at different levels... which really helps with creativity in live situations. I've never seen a used one for less than $2,000 and they estimated it at $800-$1,200 Edit: Okay so I saw at the very end where the Sky King went for $1400 + 30% and at least 8% sales tax as well as shipping I no longer feel like I've just screwed myself out of a deal... but that Harvard was another story, though there is no telling if it even works

with a relic'd guitar youre paying for the "history" and the aesthetic.
@Skrubenz
@Skrubenz 3 года назад
When they make relic'd guitars, they have to make a brand new guitar and then spend time relic'ing it, so it takes a fair bit more work to make it than a normal one, which translates into a higher price.
@longlivegarybusey6409
@longlivegarybusey6409 3 года назад
The difference between a cheap worn guitar and an expensive vintage guitar is time, that's all. Pretty much any guitar you buy as long as you don't destroy it will be worth at least it's purchase price 20-30 years after it's new with many of them being worth more. Once nostalgia kicks in prices go up. I've already found myself paying higher than new prices for Schecters that came out when I started playing 20 years ago. A C1-XXX was $300 brand new when they were released (I think as a guitar center exclusive). Now a mint condition one can go for almost $600.

I think that Epiphone debacle might be a similar phenomenon to people overpaying on Goodwill auctions; it's all about the story. In this case, it's the story of surmounting all the other bidders, and basking in the thrill of victory. Also, I suspect auction addiction is a thing that exists.

About 10 years ago I was broke AF and had to pawn something to pay the rent or other crucial bill when I spied a Danelectro sitar hanging on a not so prominent place on the wall... $200 asking price. I was so pissed, because I could tell it was vintage and in good shape. I clearly remember an article in the 80's, I think it was Guitar Player, or another similar publication, probably by, or featuring, Tommy Tedesco or some other legendary studio cat. They specifically noted that a similar (It was bronzish or maybe "rootbeer" colored) example was so rare and sought after that the studio rental price for ONE DAY was right around the asking price of the pawn shop unit. I tried everything I could to raise the $200, just could not scrape it up... I hope it went to a good home. This pawn shop was in the Fredericksburg/Northern Virginia area. Who knows, maybe it is still lurking in a dusty storage room still.

It was is really good shape, except for the tailpiece, which was wonky, so I replaced it with a Schaller tailpiece/bridge like the one on the Gibson Spirit and Corvus. It was pretty cool. Then I bought a '68 Epiphone Wilshire 12 string from a guy for $65. Another nice instrument--just needed knobs and a setup. However, I needed cash in a bad way for car insurance, of all things, and sold them both to a guy for $250. While I technically broke even or perhaps made a tiny profit, in the long run I lost a ton, 'cause I would have sold them for thousands if I had held onto them. Oh well, so much for being young, poor and dumb!

Those old USA hamers are great guitars for those who want gibson custom shop level on the cheap, well without the 30% added on anyways (that's crazy, guitarists are being milked lol)

man i want a firebird. probebly the coolest looking guitar ever made IMO. but they are so expensive. the most ive spent on an instrument is like 6000kr(swedish crowns) or roughly 600 dollars. its a bit of a leap up to 4 grand :/

The '52 Les Paul has a bent tuner so that should drop the price down a little.

Thankfully , because even rich collectors don't want amps just to look at ?

@@shaunw9270 tell me about it. “Nobody lines the walls of the house with amps. This is crazy Tom. Seriously, you need help”. If I had a dollar for every time my wife told me that, I’d have more money for more amps!

@@thomaskafafian2871 What I meant was the prices of good vintage amps have been kept sensible because a hoard of amps take up space ,so it's better to be cautious and buy working ones, whereas we all know of vintage guitar collectors often buy unusable stuff just because it's rare .

@@shaunw9270 I love fixing them, but you are right sir. They take up a ton of space!

@@shaunw9270 those Princetons were probably a good deal if you needed a Princeton. I agree with what you’re saying. People are using more software today recording then swapping out amps and stuff like that.

When I was 16 I saw 2 of those Epiphone Coronet guitars in a shop, one was $280.00 the other was $220.00, they were both 1960's models, unfortunately for me, my Dad wasn't willing to loan me $220 to buy one.
