Thanks! I need to finish it up but it does help clean up the room. Thanks for watching!

I have the same size work bench (2'x4'). I build the same stuff as when I had five times the space . . . lol. It's amazing how much you can get done in a smaller work space when you organize things. Furthermore, everything is within easy reach. Thanks for the update. The layout is looking awesome. Cheers ~ Boomer.
@RailserveJohn
@RailserveJohn Год назад
Thanks Boomer! I agree with the work space. I always feel if it’s comfortable, neat and somewhere where I want to be, great things will come from it :) thanks for watching as always… John

Great update John! As for having enough cars, I always say you need 3 or 4 cars per industry spot. This means if you have 3 spots for tankers at a fuel unloading dock, you would need a total of 9 to 12 tankers to service that industry so you can constantly rotate them out and not send the same back and forth each time. I like the guy hanging off the yard office! - Jason
@RailserveJohn
@RailserveJohn Год назад
Thanks Jason! Yes for sure! It’s an expensive realization with the car count but it’s a good opportunity for more modeling. Thanks for watching… John

I was thinking the same, then have seasonal traffic too. Mine will be fertilzer for the ranchers spring crops, then gons for sugarbeets for the fall harvest. But for the calcium chloride I'll probably need alot. John keep this up and make room for the railfans to get together and watch the switching!
@RailserveJohn
@RailserveJohn Год назад
Thanks! Plenty of room and cold beverages for railfans :)

Yes, that's the rule of thumb I've arrived at for number of cars vs. spots. Fortunately, my little layout has only a few spots. Unfortunately, I've exceeded the number of cars necessary. 🙂

Hi John, Great to see an new video of your layout. The new yard looks fantastic! It will really improve your operations as you mentioned. I really like the yard office (trailer), that was a great scratch build project. That wouldn't be Tom H. up to some shenanigans hanging off the roof? You did a good job setting up your room for modeling, one space for your spray booth and the other for your workbench/desk. You got some really nice additions to your rolling stock fleet. I can't wait to see the update on the other room with the scenery.-Tom K
@RailserveJohn

Thanks Tom! Tom H's intel on the yard office was a great help.. I will have his initials on the chair like the prototype lol

Looking good John, once I get over this sickness and get my strength back, hopefully I can make my comments into reality. My plans for what I'll call the yard will be the passing siding. Our crews will set out cars on the main Next to the siding will be two house tracks with a pocket track at the before the two house tracks. Then the yard office will be rebuilt from a 40' ft container sitting across from the scale and nearby sanding tower and where the locomomotive will be kept in between switching duties.

Take care of yourself first then plenty of time for trains :)

Love the expansion, John. You were smart, and kept things minimal at first, and expanded as needed while still maintain the practical uses of the room. Also, love the yard office for obvious reasons. Coffee is being drank and lies are being told on that porch. Keep up the good work!

always love seeing your videos show up on my following page, looking great, im starting you realize that i have made my own layout to big, get burned out on it all the time and seeing how much you get in a space is making me rethink my layout, keep up the great work
@RailserveJohn
@RailserveJohn Год назад
Thanks Gary! It’s tough judging the amount of work that goes into a layout… sometimes I wish I had more space and sometimes I wish I had less lol. Little by little focusing on small achievable projects helps although I always find myself starting too many of those lol thanks for watching! -John

@@RailserveJohn You're quite welcome, and thank you for the kind words :). You're also quite correct with regards to smaller layouts, as they enable a modeler to be a bit more detailed with regards to scenery and the like.

The two things I don't like about the Walthers 60ft box cars are the ugly moulded-on ladders and the incorrect reporting marks. The brown ones should be TOBX, not TBOX.
@RailserveJohn
@RailserveJohn Год назад
Yes they aren’t the finest models although the brown will be weathered and will blend right in. As far as the reporting marks, it’s not a huge problem for me.
@25mfd
@25mfd Год назад
i guess they molded on the side ladders to keep the price down... but they still could have cleaned that up made it look a little better

Very enjoyable update John! Your modeling work is amazing! You have a beautiful shortline! I couldn’t help but notice the Blue Comet consist in the background of one shot. How’s that project coming along? Haven’t heard about for a while.
@RailserveJohn
@RailserveJohn Год назад
Thank you! Oh yes the blue comet lol one more car to paint and then a trip to the club is for sure overdue lol it’s still my favorite project

Looks great, the layout is progressing and developing well. Literally got home from work and saw the update had dropped and sat down straight away to watch it. Looking forward to future updates. Just one question. Is there anywhere in particular you look to find what cars an industry gets or needs? I'm trying to build a home layout and am new to American outline modelling (being from the UK) and just wondered if there are any good sources of information.
@RailserveJohn
@RailserveJohn Год назад
Thank you very much for always following along! As for the prototype cars… I try to find as many photos as possible of the facility hopefully catching the car types at the facility. Google maps and street view helps. If you download google earth you can backdate through several years of photos. Also my new favorite thing is to find railfan RU-vid videos of trains that service those facilities and if you are lucky enough to find videos of them switching. Hope that helps… cheers! -John
