SOMETHING ABOUT PENNY (Mini Documentary)

A collection of video clips during the mid 1990's showing a time when Penny Hardaway was considered arguably the "best player on the planet" and the "heir to Michael Jordan's throne", by only his 3rd season in the NBA as point guard for the Orlando Magic.
Although not mentioned today as one of the greatest NBA players of all time (or even a Hall of Famer), at his peak Penny's impact on the game was as big as any player since Micheal Jordan. The respect for his game around the league is undeniable and his influence can still be seen in some of the best players in the game today and future generations of players to come.
*I don't own any of the clips used in this video.
Thanks for watching!
Penny Hardaway "Good To Be Home" Mini-Movie/Mix coming in 2018.

Prime Penny Hardaway was a better passer then Lebron James and TMac, however tmac was a hell of a passer for a 2time scoring champion that never made it out of the 1st round of the playoffs in his prime
@silviatrophin9955
@silviatrophin9955 3 года назад
@@carlwallace1129 @Carl Wallace There never was a prime Penny. He got injured long before reaching his prime. if you compare kobe to penny at the same age, then kobe was not half as good. Penny played awesome from day 1 in the NBA. Also in 95 when jordan came back he beat the chicago bulls in the conference finals... If it wasnt for nick anderson they might have even won the finals...He was 23 at that time(Hardaway) in 96 he got injured in the playoffs and he never fully recovered although he had still some success in 97 playoffs before the next injury. penny in his prime would have been unstoppable!
@carlwallace1129
@carlwallace1129 3 года назад
@@silviatrophin9955 actually Penny hardaway was sidelined his freshman year in college because he had got shot in his foot so he sat out .then he played his sophomore and junior year in college then he came into the nba after 3yrs of college. So yes Hardaway was still a all around better player than kobe for a couple years going age for age but technically he still would have had a small prime from .94 til 2000 were his most healthiest years of production before them injuries slowed him down ,yr 2002and afterwards he got stripped from his twilight yrs which were a asterisks because of injuries. Which means would've could've should've is always a 50% chance in hine sight however Penny was special his shoe alone solidified his legacy as one of the best What Ifs . Just like saying Lauren Hill was better than Beyonce as a singing artist. LAUREN was one of the greatest Artest ever but she had a melt down stopped her music career but Beyonce wasn't as talented but she was fortunate lucky,in the right system and more determined to condition herself to stay in the game longer and always kept her performance on point in her concerts

@Mario-re2qp
@Mario-re2qp 6 лет назад
He wasn't just "hot" he was the most complete player ever seen so early on, he played like a veteran and was probably the most entertaining player as well. Penny was equally as good a team player as he was individually. For a player that only played his first 2 and a half seasons without injuries that eventually ended his career, and still be remembered as one of top, and maybe the best player in the mid-90s speak volumes. It's too bad he wasn't healthy 5., 10 years down the line, by then he would've been a GOAT hands down

you just had to be alive and watching basketball at this time, to see how amazing this guy was, there were highlights every game. I'm surprised there aren't way, way more on youtube although recording wasn't as easy then like it is today, and no old school cell phones even. that team was a bottom dwelling team without young superstars shaq and penny, they were a 90s expansion team with sub par players, front office, and coach. i remember they had tree rollins coming in to play as a 42 year old coach and shaq's backup when shaq had to rest. anyway, hardaway's first 3 years with shaq, and even years after on the team as the lone wolf, are some of the best ever by an nba player. there is a reason why he was an influence to players coming into the nba since the late 90s. players with much less than his seasons at the top of the nba, are in the hall of fame today. and that 90s magic duo should be remembered by nba history. it is an interesting nba story, basically impossible for it to happen again, and now that enough time has passed people don't reject or avoid it.

Most of the people commenting on this vid are either too young to have seen penny play or don't know the qualities of a great player. Also, the fact that penny didn't play at a Duke or a North Carolina or any other famous school may have affected his notoriety before and after the draft. I can remember people not knowing anything about this kid who was arguably the best player in the draft. And that's because the university of Memphis simply isn't a big name school. Same thing happened with D. Rose. No one included Memphis as a final four favorite until they arrived at the championship game undefeated. People again were oblivious of the talent down in Memphis. I think it's too bad however that the two best players to ever come out of Memphis both had injuries that ruined their careers, and they both could have been great great players. Anyone who thinks penny wasn't on track to becoming top 5 is just uniformed.

@doubleclutch4369
@doubleclutch4369 6 лет назад
The Lonzo hype was at an all time high back then. At the time of the interview Lavar had refused to compare Lonzo to and NBA player (past and present) as if it was an insult to say his son was like Magic, Kidd or even Lebron. Penny Hardaway is the only player Lavar would admit he wanted Lonzo to be like (potentially) in the NBA. NOT SAYING LONZO IS AS GOOD AS PENNY. And you gotta understand this is last year, 2017. Penny has been retired a long time (and forgotten by most) yet he is still as mentioned today as a player the best of the new generation should model their game after. That's a compliment to Penny.

ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Mq5fY7aDLDk.html Penny wasnt overhyped like Kobe and was a better team player than Kobe ever became...Hardaway was a much better fit with Shaq on and off the court...Swingman or not Kobe wasnt a good passer and was a selfish player who spent his entire career on a futile quest to see for himself if he was as good as MJ-which he wasnt...If Shaq stays in Orlando Penny maybe doesnt blow out his knee trying to do too much and if theyre both healthy and stay that way by 1998 they would have been able to dethrone Chicago who almost lost in 7 of the ECF to the Pacers...They definitely could have won a few championships in a row after dethroning Chicago...MJ wasnt getting any better and the rest of the competition the league had to offer for the next few yrs would have been hard pressed to defeat them unless Kemp also stays in Seattle..

Kobe was actually a very talented passer..He is not known for his passes, but watch his highlights and he has made amazing passes. That being said, penny is more imaginative/creative than any player i have ever seen except for Jordan...
@dp233332
@dp233332 6 лет назад
I watched Kobes entire career having occasionally thrown a fancy or a great pass doesnt begin to make up for all the times he flat out hogged the ball didnt get it to the wide open man and or threw fundamentally flawed slightly inaccurate and even errant passes...Furthermore, the further away you get from the 1970s the easier interior passing becomes due to the consistently increasing use of the 3 point shot increasingly spreading defenses out away from the paint...I watched Penny, he was absolutely great, much more fundamentally sound, but IMHO when it comes to creativity Magic and Bird were on a higher level than anyone who has joined the NBA since the 90s began...Thing is we didnt get a full careers dose out of Penny...He was derailed by injury just as if not before he even reached his prime...Bird got better 4yrs into his career...Magic meanwhile didnt really reach his prime until 87...Each player was able to sustain their primes 3-4 seasons or more once ascending...Penny didnt get to.I was a defacto fan of Orlando during the early-mid90s. Have never really forgiven Shaq for leaving...Shaq ended up being a star without an interested team at the end, and he deserved it...The franchise has and never will fully recover...He is the best player in Orlandos history...He isnt even the best or 2nd best center in Lakers history...Kareem, Wilt were both arguably better...
