I thank you for your thoughts and excellent work , I have invested in an M3 ( 1958 ) SS Buddha Ear , from KANTO and an M A , from a seller in New Jersey , and I love them both ....but the M3 I love the best .... my M A gets jealous of her elder sister .... I think. I also shoot my F3 , yes I like that baby too.... Gosh Steven , I feel so blessed , thank you for your thoughtful photographic reviews , you shoot the life and this is beautiful ... yes .. Many shots 🫣 between are " dud's " , but then , there are treasures. I thank you for your friendship and inspiration. Christopher .

Hi Steven, i am a Leica film camera user. I see myself as a photographer not a collector and personally refuse to buy or entertain market prices for this rare lens including the KOB. I get good enough image quality from the Leica ASPH 35mm. Sometime ago, Light Lens Lab released a 8 element replica. Using the same optical formula though i am unsure if the glass quality is comparable. Seeing your video, perhaps i will consider buying this. It seems as a photographer to support rising prices of rare lenses, that goes against what i believe in. I do buy my Leica film cameras new though. I greatly appreciate your videos and opinions. As a film shooter 99% of the time, there is much i find useful in your content.

No company in this world will ever manufacture a lens like that. It would be waaay too expensive and labor intensive now. It's a true classic Leica masterpiece!

I’ve tested this lens against almost every other 35mm lens … the only reason I’d ever prefer another one is if I wanted to predictably squash any chance of flare and get a very contrasty photo, or if wanted overly saturated colors without editing. Well, then there’s the pre-asph Lux with it’s glorious f2.8.

Thank you for another great and wollspoken video. I really like the dreamy and sometimes surreal look of your images! I had a foggy 35mm v2 summicron and i noticed exactly the same behaviour. It was a great lens on my M6 with film but it often did not feel right on my M240. I sold it to get a 35mm v4 summicron that works great on film and digital. Looking forward to your next video!

I really like the dimensionality and layers the lens creates. Great video, I am looking for something like this for my M5. Ouch! that shot of your M3's shutter is a painful sight!

I just got the Nikon Sp, and i know we both love Nikon and Leica company a lot. However, it surprises me when i have watched all your video but i feel missing about nikon Sp. Would love to see it in your collection and play beside with leica m3.

I have a couple of 35mm F2.8 Summarons, one with goggles for my M3, plus a Summilux F1.4 ASPH. I have to say that some of the asking prices for Leica lenses and even digitals are now bordering on absurd. Two weeks ago I looked up the price of a used Leica M8, thinking it will probably be around the £1000.00 mark. The shop is asking nearly £1400.00 for it. Absolutely bananas.

Steve, any idea how the 8-element compares in performance at equivalent apertures to the 35 Summaron ƒ/2,8? I owned the 8-element briefly about 10 years ago but it had haze that muddle its performance at ƒ/2-2.8. Sent it back to the seller. They are double the price of when I bought and completely out of reach.

Are you planning to clean your foggy lens? It might lose its magic? What is your opinion on the f/2.8 lens?

I would like to know about the Lens Light Lab. f/2 35 mm collapsible. it comes with a converter for use with the Leica M3 or M6.

I bought it because I really wanted to use it after watching your video. Can I use it for the Leica MP body? When I attached it to the MP body, the distance meter doesn't fit. Can I use it while focusing on each page.

I was watching a video from the CEO of Arria Alexa the company that makes movie cameras and he said to get the film look its about gamma and not dynamic range how other companies are always talking about. Also I saw another video from another filmmaker he said the Sigma L-Mount camera color wise is on pare with a Arri Alexa. It be interesting to so if that lens would work on the Sigma L-Mount camera. Only thing that camera only has a electronic shutter so if something is moving really fast it might warp a little.

Can you recommend a specific UV/IR-Filter to protect the lens? E.g. the Leica 13131 ? I am going to use my 8-Element on a M7 and a M10r. TIA!!

Steven! Why scanning? I regard scanning as a digital-type intrusion into film photography. Film is for artisans. Leave scanning to the digital, selfie brigade!

Great video. Would be interesting to compare that lens with the Summilux 35 1.4 pre-asph v2 version. That old Summilux is in my eyes a beautiful tool which can create dreamy images on film, extremely well too.
