Sorry darling he has the voice but not the control needed. Ask the song writer, she will let you know. This song needs a vocal master, and of the two wonderful men, Jason is a bit better. I dare Ryan to sing this version without gasping for air. Ryan did the demo, and Jason the recording no one will dare to attempt.

Jason’s voice is beautiful here, but I have heard him live in other performances, and I personally think Ryan would have carried the role better. But…at the end of the day, it’s up to personal preference and opinion, and this is mine after watching both and reading the book. 🤷🏻‍♀️ you are more than welcome to your opinion, but please cut the condescending “darling.” It’s not needed.

Listen to Ryan’s three live versions on RU-vid and listen Jason’s live performances on RU-vid, and if you dare to be honest with yourself you will know. There is no gasping for air in Jason’s version it’s sublime start to finish, I was trying to look for faults I failed miserably on that score. I have no horse in this race just a Producer’s ear, and I know when I am listening to something Spectacular. I doubt there has ever been a cover for Jason’s version, he must have a second pair of lungs. It’s okay to be a fan girl but let’s not take away Jason’s flowers he did the damn thing. He sound like his recording live, how many people can manage that? And by the way darling was not meant in a condescending way, you do realise that we use the words love and darling a lot in the UK? Can you stop looking to be offended for no reason, I am not here for it.

@@HuttonMaplankaFlanior all of your comments are in favor of Jason as you are clearly a fan of his, and that is fine, but I stand by all of my statements. It is not always who is technically the most proficient but who portrays the song the best, and I believe that was Ryan in every performance I have seen of this song. I have seen Jason live literally at the Muny twice, and his voice was not up to snuff in either of those performances I watched him in. It wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great. I think he has vastly improved since those performances, but even in his live versions of this song, there are hesitancies and missteps. As I said, I think Jason sounds good on this, but Ryan’s performance (acting, vocals, overall feel) was better in MY opinion. YOU are entitled to yours.

@@ozziehall779 i guess i can see the benefit of making it easier for other singers to sing in the future, but i personally believe they should be casting men who CAN hit the same notes as ryan in the preview. and sure the arrangement is different because thep review was just piano, so i understand that as well to make it more exciting, but im not sure the weird beats in the official version make it romantic.

The weird thing is that Jason’s version here is actually a half step higher than Ryan’s. The highest note in Ryan’s was a C in a riff. Jason can definitely reach that same pitch, the highest note in this version is a B.

The arrangement changed because the first arrangement was making it sound breathy and the high notes were to high to glide into the lows properly. I personally think the change brings the song to life,but more challenging for the performer I do not think anyone will be able to sing this version but him. As for range Jason is the better singer he has a bigger range and most importantly he has CONTROL, and you can not hear him gasping for air even if you want to breath for him, I can’t say that for Ryan, he was good but this is out of this world. Ryan did a good demo, Jason hit it out of the park.

I disagree, this is the best version. Ryan sang the demo and the song writer said it was good but you could hear him gasping for air. When Jason sang it she immediately said it’s even better than she imagined it, this song is Jason’s sorry, no one will sing it better. If you don’t believe me listen to the live version of Ryan and then of Jason, the control is just out of this world.

Ryan is great, but I think Jason’s range allows him to take melodies from luxurious low notes to high-flying falsetto, gliding with elegant power and impressive control, the song comes to life much better than Ryan’s version.

Ryan’s was too flat with moments of screaming on the high notes. To the trained ear, there is no contest Ryan is good but Jason is out of this world and not breathy at any point, even live. Can we stop being low-key haters please?
