i was solo tent camping in 2020 so there was hardly anyone in the campground and plenty of space for people to camp but, of course, this couple camped right next to me. I have never heard a couple yell so loud and be so rude to each other in my life and it was sun up to sundown. I had been there a couple of days and had paid for two more nights, but I quickly packed up and left. I told the camp host what was going on, for what it was worth. It was so bad I was scared for my life, not to mention, there was absolutely no peace and quite in an almost empty campground. Some people are so wrapped up in themselves that they are oblivious to the people around them.
Most of the behaviors that I see in so many, if not most. people are significantly self centered these days. No civility toward others, or even those in their own family too often. The transition from being aware of others around you and acting accordingly to only caring about your experience in the moment has been accelerated in the past decade. Above my pay grade to comment on all the reasons why that is, but certain segments of our society certainly foster that selfish, self oriented behavior. It's all about me seems to be the majority behavior now. In confined spaces like in the RV environment that behavior is easily amplified. Will we return to civility?
@@keithallen3119people used to be embarrassed to argue in public, or when others were near. They at least tried to make some effort to hold back. There is definitely a selfishness that some people have these days that is so annoying. It also makes you wonder why people like that are even together. Some people don’t believe in divorce, I suppose, and choose endless bickering instead. When I meet people like that I’m just so grateful my life isn’t like that, and that I have good, kind people in my life. Imagine living that way 24/7!
Yup, I hear ya. That's why I prefer to pitch as far from anyone else. Basically I camp IN the woods. No one around but bugs and whatever live there. Had a group of deer rite out the flap. Awesome!!
they knew exactly what they were doing, pity you didn't just move as far as you could away from them. like smokers these folks put on crazy show to ruin everyones time.
That was very smart of you no to wait around. We had an incident at a state campground a couple of years ago. Two women were tent camping and someone suspicious came and camped nearby.The campground was in the same town where they worked, but was off the beaten path. The police found that they had told their friends of the situation, but remained, then disappeared over the next couple of days. This had a very tragic ending.
As an Senior lady solo traveler, I find it very humorous when I pull up to my sites in my 33 ft motorhome. Men out talking will completely stop for my parking show. I hate to disappoint but I drove school bus for 32 years. 😂 What's nice is they will along with their wives will compliment me. How skilled, how effortless I made it seem. I do appreciate it. I even have taught a couple of times. We need to be kind whereever we are. A display like this man's will not gain any friendly interaction with people during his stay that's for sure! 😮

So true how people watch parking ability. My husband, who is a national champion truck rodeo (driving) competitor, proceeded to park our travel trailer in the worst state park site we've ever had. It was up hill, trees and boulders. As we approached we could see people watching and peeking. They KNEW this was the worst spot at the campground. I swear people were taking bets. But, my husband (with me inside the truck) like a champ parked our trailer in record time and with 1 back in, no extra maneuvers. At that moment people started clapping and then approached to congratulate his park job. Yep they were watching!!
Yep,my ex husband could do the same thing,he for years worked as a yard houser moving big rig trailers,here there and all over the yard. He was really good
If that were my husband yelling at me I would have had to walk up to him and quietly tell him that I was going to go for a walk. Then i would walk off and maybe go get a coffee or something. Later..when he cooled down i would tell him that i would do that each and every time he didn’t treat me with respect. I DO NOT put up with bullshit and embarrassing treatment.
My wife are new to RVing and my skill set is still underdeveloped. On top of that I am type A and driven to succeed. For these reasons the first two items on my arrival and departure checklists are 1) PMA (positive mental attitude) and 2) Slow Down. Thanks for this video!

One thing that has truly helped us has been visiting different churches while we travel. We’ve always felt embraced and the routine helps ground us a bit when we feel disconnected.
As truckers we don't get that opportunity as most churches don't have truck parking but definitely agree when you pray together and worship it's harder to be angry. We attend many online churches and do online Bible studies.
This is our 24 th year of RVing. We use hand signals. It’s a very effective way to arrive without drawing attention. I feel badly for that poor women. No one deserves that kind of treatment.
We use a 2 day radio, as it's been effective for us as well. One place that can make backing in difficult, is when the site isn't level, we've found. As it's important to remember where things are in a campsite, so that when slides are put out, they aren't going to hit anything, plus finding the most level you can get. I carry 2X10 boards I can drive up on (don't like my wheels hanging via the levellers) but sometimes it can truly take a lot of them on extreme uneven surfaces! Most RV 'resorts' are quite level, so it's rather simple, but state or Provincial, not always so.
Thank you for this! We are not full timers, but we enjoy our travel trailer on weekends and vacations. We decided that when we got the trailer 4 years ago that we would not get worked up over things that happen on the road. This has worked for us, our first year we had our truck break down 7 hours from home in the middle of nowhere. We stayed calm ( something that is very hard for me) finally got thru to a tow company that towed both the truck and our rig 70 miles to the next nearest town with a mechanic. We made the most of our additional 4 days until the truck was repaired. The only thing my wife gets anxious about is guiding me in when I'm backing into a site. I finally learned to stay calm with her, I may have to stop what I'm doing, go out and check things, I give her a hug and tell her she is doing an awesome job and then proceed backing in, I also praise her afterwards on what a great job she did. The backing into the site is the only time we really have an issue and I've learned how to work us thru that. Also Thank you for showing the up's and downs with being in an RV, it's not all rainbows and unicorns.
I have held off on camping during retirement for several reasons, but one of the main ones is i never could see the appeal of " Camping" so close to other people. My idea of camping is much more secluded. I know i am the exception, not the rule, and admit to being an introvert. But, i do know there are some nice people who camp, and some nice and convenient campgrounds available especially if you have kids.
Bingo, my idea of a good camping trip is not seeing any people. Sometimes I go winter camping just for that reason. The silence is worth the extra effort.
My Wife have been part time RVing for a few years now, and I saw this for the first time on May 31, 2023 at Zephyr Cove RV Resort in South Lake Tahoe. The poor guy had just pulled up to the spot when the door popped open and his wife got out, screaming at the top of her lungs.This went on for about fifteen minutes. I felt sorry for the guy because it was so humiliating for him. No phone, no radio, just insults and profanity. I should have been recording. Maybe step outside and set up a tripod. Something that Marc said on "Keeping your Daydream" has helped us so much. Slow down and take it easy. There is no hurry, no rush, no time limit. Stress and accidents happen when we for some reason think we have to get it done quickly. BTW annemueller - Marine radios are for marine use. That's why you don't hear anyone else on the radio. Using them on land to back your RV is illegal. Pick up some FRS radios at Walmart.
My wish is that every couple watches this and your "6 Uncomfortable Truths about RV Life YOu Need To Hear" before they invest and decide to hit the road. The prepation, travel, set-up and close down before and after each trip is a huge strain on any relationship that you just don't realize until after your first weekend. I used to have a pillow that said "I'm sorry for the things I said while we were parking the camper" and many times, I needed to scream into that pillow to keep from saying things that I would really be sorry for saying.😂

Oh my God, My husband and I (weekend warriors) just were commenting on this. We had two more mature couples around us last weekend at a Corp of Engineer campground who did the same thing. One of the older gentleman even refused to say HI to us when we were attempting to make conversation with our neighbors. We found out later it was because he was absolutely ticked off at his wife (and his cat) who buried himself under their tub in the camper. He had to pull out and go to a repair shop and then came back in a better mood---until the cat took off for the woods behind the camper. 5 hours later he is finally talking to us. Crazy!!!! Why be out and living the life if you hate it so much.
My husband and I use a hand held marine radio when backing into a spot. We can talk quietly with each other and clearly hear instructions/questions without having to yell. We also have established jobs when setting up or packing up. It works well for us.😊
We have been trying to us the handheld walkie talkie, with little luck. Recently I have been working with a group of cyclist using our radios with good luck. Hopefully this will work for us when parking our RV on the next trip.
We have to get walkies or something. My bf and I are both semi hard of hearing so trying to shout from the truck cab to the trailer tongue is just dumb on our part.
I’ve been blessed in this area. He is a pro and doesn’t need my assistance really. I just stand there looking pretty. The backup camera is a better assistant than I am. I’m 8 yrs in and I still don’t know the right words or hand gestures to assist. 😂 Good thing he’s been RVing since birth. Many a times has our neighbors made comments how smooth he parked our 5th wheel and he has even gotten a round of applause. No need for the “Sorry for what I said while we were parking the trailer” pillow in our rig.
Back in the 70s when I went with my grandparents in their travel trailer ( 95% of campers were in this age group because younger folks weren't rich enough to afford a home and a travel trailer) there was this running joke that if the yelling stopped after the trailer got parked, the marriage would survive. Every couple seemed to yell at each other and make rude accusations about the others intelligence. I thought this was normal
it's my favorite pastime... watching arrivals!!! one time my hubby watched a couple trying to back up and was struggling with their class A. he offered to help guide them. he got them backed up in 1 swift movement and they were sooo thankful they bought us a small gift in appreciation (they didn't need to he was just happy to help). they said it was a brand new rig and they just got it. my hubby was happy to help. but yes... we love watching and I do get impressed with the larger rigs (5th wheels) and how they make it look so easy!!😂😅
We have established "chores" for both coming and going. I find that establishing clear instructions prior to backing in such as "watch that tree and tell me if I'm getting too close" and "Let me know when we look level" type of things limits the raising volume!
I feel so bad for that woman you were talking about. All I can think of is that if he is that mean when in public just think what he is like in private. So sad. I have seen this kind of behavior only once and it literally made me sick to my stomach. Poor lady
I live watching the new arrivals (especially Fifth Wheels) as we are newbies and we don’t own a truck yet to pull our home, so we watch others for tips for when we do have a truck and start traveling more. But we watch a lot of videos on the tips we need to be successful, so THANK YOU!❤

My husband just retired and we are getting ready to set out on our full time adventure. I've been following you for just over a year now and i can't tell you how grateful I am for you!! I have all my "placemat baskets" made and been practicing my RV laundry folding. 😉 We have also started the online RV course you recommended. I do keep seeing more and more of these videos and it's starting to scare me away from our life long dream and plans to travel and RV full time. But I really do appreciate your honesty and your help. I know we'll be just fine and we will have time of our lives, videos like these are essential to help us feel more prepared. (Did i mention how grateful I am?) We stopped yelling at each other decades ago, now we just have those "knowing looks"... Anyway, I think my biggest fear is finding "our people". And actually being accepted into the RVing world. I been driving 18 Wheels for the last 15 years. I have been driving "team operated runs",... for 6 years. Must set priorities, limits, responsibility, tasks,....and always remember: Nobody is "perfect",.... specially YOU!!. Remember ,... NO to hurt the person you love. Just common sense!
Bad behavior has become acceptable behavior while camping, at sporting events, work, in politics, and with online influencers. If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.
Sometimes the RV life can add stress. You have to have a good marriage to start with. RV life will not improve your relationship if you don't have a good foundation to start with.
We are both RVers and truckers and this couple is me and my husband. One of our issues is he is hard of hearing and I have MS which causes fatigue which causes my volume to be low or no voice at all. My husband has no idea how loud he is and if I try to point it out it's going to be worse. Just keep in mind (especially aging people or people that have mental or physical disabilities) I can be the most loving kind forgiving person as this lady probably is because she understands what is going on with him. It takes a lot for me to fight back so to speak but I will say in situations like what you are sharing where you see people watching he gets worse because "he is a trucker" and in his mind "he should be able to do it" (whatever it is backing, hook ups etc and he really hates when he has to ask me for help but can't hear me in turn takes it out on me. One of my favorite quotes is " We give grace because we need grace. " ❤
We have seen this happening to, turn out one couple was hard of hearing, they didn't use any bad words but now we just assume this is why lol. We were at a beach in Ventura California, people brought their chairs out to sit and watch me back in, they booed me, I asked why, I didn't give them a show, and one asked me for tips on to back in, I'm a retired truck driver.

We have been camping for at least 10yrs now. My wife has grown so much with communication over the years!!!! I just drive/haul the 39ft toy hauler and has been a blessing growing while backing in!!!!!! We are just weekend warriors for now.
When you talked about watching people back in to there site, reminded me about watching boaters put in or take out there boats it was our entertainment though we would not comment about it to others because we’ve been there too. I rent vacation rentals through Vrbo. The acreage of my rentals is 90 acres to 10,000 acres. No crowds no fighting couples, no loud music, no yaking dogs.
I have been living in my travel trailer for over a year now and I haven’t traveled much because gas and everything else is so expensive. That’s why I have been living in a long term RV park. The RV life is not all that it’s cracked up to be. I’ve been broke and not been able to go anywhere or do anything. My travel trailer is an older model and it’s only 20 feet long. And it’s sometimes like a small prison with just me and my big dog. And even though I have a big dog. It can be very lonely at times and depressing. Most of my neighbors won’t talk to me or have anything to do with me. To me it’s nothing like some of those videos I see about RV life where everyone seems to be having a wonderful time.
I live full time 8 months a year while im in Arizona at my mines. I always try to find nice RV parks but shes right, no matter the park you'll have to deal with loud and or drunk idiots from time to time. One HUGE things id suggest to EVERY RV'er is get good wired security cams with a DVR that records them. Having the ability to keep my blinds closed at night especially if im out in the desert dry camping, yet you'll still be able to see everything going on outside without anyone knowing whos inside. Its a big advantage against any would be thugs or even wild animals. Having cameras actually saved me from going to jail, true story!! : One night I stayed at a crappy rv park and around 11pm some drunk lady opened my door and tried coming inside, she wasnt invited! we told her to leave multiple times and she wouldnt so I pushed her out of the motorhome and locked the door, this drunk lady who broke into our camper called the cops and said I beat her up and made up this whole BS story and yet the idiot cops were siding with this drunk and not us who were the actual victims until I told them we can prove our story and its all on camera. they watched it and saw who the real criminal was but if it werent for those cameras I would have went to jail for assult when infact I was the victim and did nothing wrong. Its a messed up world no matter where you are these days so having cameras is a MUST. They never lie, twist stories.. they tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth! I bought a set of 4 reolink cams for my motorhome for under 300 bucks, go with wired cams, its worth the work installing them compared to crappy wifi cams that dont work right half the time. Id suggest a 2TB hard drive this was you can play back events that happened weeks ago if needed!!
We just had this exact thing happen to us last month while camping in Iowa. We actually observed a woman crying while doing the pack down process because her husband was being so mean to her. I felt so bad and after a time another woman came over to comforting her. I also have to tell you that in these divided time, in the US, as a retired gay couple camping, we actually sometimes feel unsafe in certain parts of the country. When I was a kid and would visit my grandparents spending their winters camping in the south, away from the cold, everyone was so friendly. These day we often “read the room” and pretty quick decide wether or not we’re interacting with others or keeping to ourselves. Sadly, it takes just a little of the fun away from the experience. We have a 40Ft fithwheel. My boyfriend drives truck for a living. We have yelled at each other almost every time we move our camper but in the end we love each other and forget what even happened while moving the camper.
A long stressful moving day, a not so smooth check it, a tough back in or not being comfortable setting up the rig. Sometime you just need to unwind before shouting and exploding. I see this I gently walk over ask the lady if she is ok and can I help this most of the time will defuse the situation. but it;s not in me to watch this escalate, when all they need is a little help.

I always say that the best test to see if you are compatible with your partner is to go camping together!! When backing in, why don't people get walkie talkies so they don't have to yell to/at each other? Life is short. If camping makes some people so stressed out and abusive, then they should stay home. It is supposed to be a fun relaxing experience. I tell myself in stressful situations to take a deep breath and that "this too shall pass".
After 5 years of FTing in a giant 5th wheel we perfected our set up performance. We provided drama, fear, tension, comedy, and occasionally horror - all for free 😉. Our friends never understood how we managed to spend 24/7 together in a small space & not hate each other. Some days were easier than others but a plus of RVing is being able to walk off your mad in great environments. We actually had one alcohol fueled domestic disturbance in a park that resulted in a park guest being taken off to the local lock-up. 😮
My husband and I drive a semi together, we travel together and share similar hobbies. We went with our travel trailer to a music festival Labor Day weekend and witnessed a lot of screaming.
My wife and I had similar problems with anchors on our live aboard sailboat! Yup, all boaters in harbor will watch the new couple screw up and yell at each other! We decided that no matter how bad it went, we would use hand signals ONLY! Yes we had some less than polite hand signals but without raised voices it worked much better!
I don't know what they were going through,but I my husband yells a lot! He has tinnitus and can't hear well. He yells thinking he is speaking normally, but he is extremely loud. He gets upset when he can't hear people, and sometimes makes up a response to them to keep from saying, 'what?' all the time. He has been to Doctors but not really given any real help. I feel compassion for him, while I realize onlookers think he's mad at me. While he does feel tense and angry, it is not anger toward me, but the tension from constant noise.
I have a 42' fifth wheel. I know people watch me. I'm OK with it. I've been backing big horse trailers since I was 15. The key is like someone else below said. Just slow down and try to have a positive attitude. I also don't stress out. I was an Air Traffic Controller for 22 years, backing a camper is NOT stressful.. Trust me.
My wife does the parking. I stand outside and give directions verbally. Turn right and back up. Stop. Turn the wheel straight and back up etc. I get the trailer exactly where I want it and if not it's my fault. Easy.
Yep, new arrivals are definitely the even entertainment. We've seen it all in our 35+ years of camping. I will say, since 2020 it's gotten more nuts with people that don't seem to understand that camping, even in a very nicely appointed RV is not the same as a 5 star resort. Some of these folks don't seem to have the problem solving skills or knowledge to handle the things that break or that just plain need to be done. I hope it gets better.
It is a hard deal. My husband is a freak out first kind of guy..... After almost 19 years, I no longer back down kind of wife. We had a melt down at a camp area. When I realized it I walked away. We did talk about it. But your right it's a big change. We are not full time we are just vacationers at this time. Plus new to RVing. So it's been at times, difficult. I so appreciated you for sharing this.
That guy wasn't just stressed, he was completely abusive to her. I know living in an RV is hard, but don't make excuses for that kind of behavior. Please.
The “Backing” event is a thing and can increase the stress especially after a long day driving. Get out walk around a bit if possible before you go to site to back in…have a beer first…ultimately communication is key between driver and spotter. Reduce your stress improve your marriage… Put down the Cell Phones and cut down the Social Media time…
Love that you brought this to viewer's attention, both in the rv lifestyle and not. I always remember the joy of the lifestyle and try to not let stressors 'rain on the parade', no matter the situation (and as you said, we aren't perfect). I love the good energy just being in the RV brings and let that be my principal thought and base throughout it all, be it dump station miss haps or vehicle miss haps. It's all part of the adventure, try and smile through it all!
We like to watch people when they arrive sometimes it's funny and sometimes I learn new ways of doing some things. On one trip we watched a older couple come in and we spent the next six hours no kidding watching them set up everything they had brought with them, it was better than any reality show on TV but sometimes people have the idea to do everything while camping I guess and not just relaxing and enjoying the moment but that's just me
People with boats to the same thing... At one time I worked part time on the weekends for a tow boat co. at the dock and across the pier from me could have been this guy with a sailboat. As he backs into their slip it was the same yelling also. One day I had plenty. So, my engines running I put both engines in gear. My back wash from two 22" four blade props keeps him from backing into his slip. he never caught on.
I feel like people need to connect to their body more. The adrenals have been a major issue with people recently, fight or flight mode seems to be where a lot of people are at.
We find humor in our flaws. For the life of me, I can not direct my husband on the ball of the hitch. He just looks at it shakes his head, gives me that look and goes back to his seat laughing. On another note, he can back that trailer up anywhere he wants and usually lines up the ball and hitch better without me. I feel bad for that woman though, hope this was one of the first and last times that happened.
Good Lordy, Yelling at my wife would be so counter productive. She is too scared to drive the RV but everything else ... she's a champ. When my ADHD is in overdrive she reels me back and sets me straight.
My husband can not back up. Period. Something about him and I used to dread setting up and breaking down. Glad we're no longer " campers!" Too much work.
I get it. We've been liveaboards on a sailboat for 24 years, I can vouch to hearing captains berate crewmembers' (often a spouse, partner, or girlfriend) shiphandling abilities. Understandable, since a boat uses other means to coming full stop as opposed to brakes. Some rely totally on sailpower and no motor to dock or leave the dock. So I get what stress can do to individuals and groups.Thanks for bringing this up.
Yes I've heard not nice things said while someone was setting up. We use walkie-talkies and I have turned it off more than once when parking. I do watch others park and some are impressive.
I spent three decades taking adolescents through outdoor experiences, giving them intentional "stress-challenge" activities and noting how they deal with frustration or uncertainty, whether intentional or circumstantial (three days of rain, etc). The comments I heard over and over in discussions with leadership was that these are the times when the person shows their true self. Adults used to have some pretty reliable filters against this, but these days, the bullies and entitled inner children are coming out of the woodwork.
Experiential Education., many programs use that model for learning group appropriate interactions, dealing with adversity, awareness of self, self asteem, dealing with authority. So many teachable moments.... we owe a debt of gratitude to folks like Kurt Hahn.

Campground RV life is in many ways worse than living in a crowded development with neighbors too close. But I'm glad so many people can't let go of the tether; it leaves more room in the really nice places for those of us who have no need for hookups.
We bought a Class B and travel with 4 small dogs. Literally, the first night we stayed somewhere for the first YEAR my husband had a grouchy hard time. While he was never rude to me, or loud, he would implode and be overwhelmed with the tight quarters and messiness and we’d have a pretty good fight. With a Class B, the interior gets messy FAST because it’s so tiny inside. Over time, we have found our sweet spot and travel in harmony. We haven’t witnessed this yet, but if you want to witness some ‘yelling action’ grab a lawn chair and sit at a boat ramp! 😂
When we are parking our trailer (at which my husband is very good ) , he always jokes to anyone who comes up to help by saying, “Just don’t let me yell at my wife.” There’s a lot of togetherness on the road. The travelers really have to work on it.
People are people and love to watch others fail.....as a veteran long-haul, coast to coast 18 wheel driving, I PROMISE you that you, me, your family and my family don't have enough fingers and toes between ALL of us to count how many times I have seen clusters of "professional" drivers stand around and berate, point, laugh and make fun of rookie drivers having issues backing their rigs into a parking spot at truck stops.....it's human nature and will be around long after you and I are both long gone. We just need to get over it and move on.
We go to a park on the Mississippi River and sit near the boat ramp. It is entertaining to see all the boats as they are either put in the water or hauled out. If a dog is in the boat, 99% of the time the dog will be perched in the bow of the boat as the boat returns to the landing. The dog is the first to hop out of the boat. It is "entertaining" when the current is strong and the boat owner attempts 4 or 5 or 6 alignments to get the boat on the trailer. Reading this, I must have a boring life if the above is my entertainment.
Hi.Your video got me to thinking, not that I haven't been thinking. Now it's your turn to think. I have an interesting situation in consideration of your topic. I have on my hands a 43-year old failure to launch son. My bride of forty-seven years passed away July 2022 and I made some life changing choices as a result. The situation is, I sold everything and I plan to travel and clear out my bucket list. I am making it work until I get things sorted out. Basically, what to do with him. And by making it work, I mean he sleeps on the floor of my tiny RV, on the cushions salvaged from my booth he sets up for a bed each night and eats my food. It is winter and being his father, I don't want him to starve while living in a tent in winter conditions, which is a choice for him, not for me. Excuse me for saying this, but I am at a loss for words. In thinking about it, I made a decision to help him out (once again). I asked him if he wanted to travel with me on an adventure to Quartzite AZ where hopefully he can get a job and finally live his life in less than winter-like conditions. What do you think his answer was? Not what you'd think. Of course if he accepts my offer, he will still be sleeping in a tent, not my RV (that is a Christmas present from me to him), because, hey, I want to live my own life, not his. Just thought I would throw that out there. There are more happenings in this world than you mentioned. And I am living one of them!
I love "when we are squeezed, whatever is on the inside comes out. You don't squeeze and orange and get grape juice". I'll hold on to that one for a while.
