I created this short clip to raise awareness and understanding about what it's like to have schizophrenia.
Most people with schizophrenia aren't violent or dangerous. I'm so tired of this misconception. It's tough enough to live with schizophrenia, but the hardest thing of all about it is living with the stigma that's attached to it.
In this three minute film i want to show you what it really means to have schizophrenia.
It's time to stop the stigma and stand up for schizophrenia.
We're just human.
Please watch and share.

is no doubt that he is human, i dont mean to say it in a bad way but thats the problem with the people, and im not telling this for you, i say it for all the people that see someone with a diferent condition as something "strange" or "to avoid"

I agree. My brother in law struggles with schizophrenia and I think bipolar disorder if I remember correctly and it infuriates me when people treat him like a child or like a crazy person. His own family does it the most and I secretly want to smack them for it. He is the nicest person ever, always thinks of you before himself, and is the hardest working person I've ever met (I helped him get a job working with me and he fucking rocks at it). He's a normal human being and people talking to him like a child is just as insulting as if someone were to make fun of my tourettes syndrome. Love the video and continue breaking down the stigma my friend!

It must be SO hard and exhausting to have those voices and still be able to function normal in front of others
@nerysghemor5781

Yeah! Forcing yourself to act normal with anxiety and depression is tons of fun (sarcasm), but this seems like it would have to be a hell of a lot more difficult.

It gets annoying, honestly. When you know you're Schizoaffective and know what's going on (note- not in psychosis but just day to day) it can get tedious to tell the intrusive thoughts to piss off and no, nobody is following you/you're not an angel incarnate/you don't wanna catch shit on fire, etc etc etc

Amazing news everyone! Jonny has just been announced as the winner of mental health charity Rethink's Janey Antoniou Award for his dedication to ending stigma attached to schizophrenia and for his hard work raising awareness! Janey was a very inspirational lady and the award was set up for someone who has followed in her footsteps and is dedicating efforts to challenging those awful misconceptions. @@rebecca-du6ow I'm BPD as well. To my understanding our diagnosis is very similar to schizophrenia, but less intense as in not feeling like we're in a completely different world. Kinda like sometimes I feel like I am almost a different species, perceiving the world differently, where I'd imagine schizophrenia would feel much more intense than that. I did a piss job explaining and obviously I don't know if anything is accurate but that's how I understand it.

My brothers have it, I work in a psych ward now. In my experience, patients are mostly highly intelligent, creative and sensitive. Schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder is GROSSLY misunderstood by the public. It's our duty to educate the masses. All they know about it is learned from news headlines of a very small number of tragic incidents. Schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder is way more common than thought. ❤ Thanks for this video.

Hi Jonny, i just wanted to say that i really liked your video. It explained things extremely well, and i'm so sorry you've had to deal with this horrible illness. I've also been diagnosed with Schizo-affective disorder (depressive type), and i know first hand how difficult it can be. I hallucinate every day, and my paranoia sometimes completely takes control of me. But i carry on. It is a real pleasure to see someone trying to spread awareness of this disease. I hope you can find some happiness :) All the best, Robbie.

I also experience those intrusive thoughts, like wanting to jump over a table, kick a door, or slap someone's face. They are usually quite unprompted. I don't have schizophrenia or a schizoaffective disorder, but I do have ASD, Tourette's, OCD and anxiety. I find myself relating to a lot of the symptoms of schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorders.

@HoodatheAntagonisti’m aspie too :) i noticed: those thoughts come to me when i’m in need to throw off social anxiety. i laugh at them (the humour is in absurdity and unpredictability of imagined action). this laugh is completely internal, but it eases my tension in muscles. in my country all people with asperger take test about schizophrenia. i think, because we have some similar traits.

Jonny you are all kind of awesome. I decided to hang out on your channel for a bit today and talk about a pick me up mate! We who live with Schizophrenia/Schizoaffective Disorder - Depression - Bi Polar Disorder can go through the gambit of thoughts and emotions. The only difference in the symptoms you showed here was instead of hearing throw the glass of water and throw it - my voices love to tell me someone is going to do that to me or worse. I hate the paranoia because it makes it so difficult to go outside or live a "normal" life. Thanks for giving us that voice and making it known that we are people too.

Such a great video! Thanks so much for sharing! In college I took several classes that focused primarily on schizophrenia. My professor was very passionate about the rights of people with schizophrenia, and not allowing the disease to define who they are. She discouraged us from referring to people as "schizophrenics", and instead advised us to call them "people with schizophrenia". She is a wise and compassionate woman, and I learned a lot from her.

I have bipolar and not many people get me. My boys have autism and I find that only people who have the patience bother to get to know us all. This video is a really good and simplistic explanation about a serious illness that is unbelievably misunderstood. Anyways, first I'd like to say awesome video. Second, as a person who ended up here by not searching for anything to do with the topic... I can say that you are just like everyone else from my experience. You describe a lot of things that I can can completely relate to, and my inner monologue is not only my biggest critic, but can sometimes boost myself quite high. Lots of conversations with myself or what I would deem critical thinking and self debate throughout the daily grind. I think the world may be just overly obsessed with incessant need to label or categorize, when in fact we're just humans with varying levels of these beautiful yet sometimes misunderstood complex operating systems called our mind. Cheers 🥂

Awesome video. I have skitophrenia and this is exactly what it's like. Recently, I came up with a therapy that helped me so maybe it might help someone else. As you're hearing the voices get to a quiet place, close your eyes and imagine a radio. Then imagine the voice coming out of the radio. Slowly turn the volume of the radio down until all you hear is silence. Now I know this simple but I haven't heard anything since. Also I want anyone reading this to know you are not alone in this struggle. One my favorite scriptures is 2timothy 1:7 "For God hath not given us a spirit of fear but of power and of love" We can overcome this.

Benjamazing news- a number of celebrities including Stephen Fry have RT'd this on twitter :D as have many kind-hearted people- the response has been incredible & it is an absolute delight 2 see this being embraced! This is what we want the public 2 see- a representation of schizophrenia with integrity, not the twisted version that the ignorant churn out! End Stigma- Stand Up For Schizophrenia

thanks for the video man. I've had this disorder for many years and I'm just now self aware of the illness. I didn't want to belive I had it for a long time. now I am taking latuda and many diffrent types of vitamins. I take omega 3, 4 times a day and a b3 multi in the morning and a potassium supplement in the morning. I know what you mean when you feel parinoid. it's the worst part of the entire illness. I've recently lost 240 lb in 11 months because I thought I had cancer or a brain tumor and I thought the doctors were lying to me. I am doing everything in my power to get it under control. you are an inspiration sir. thank you so much.
