This is the story of my life Sorin. You made a mistake this time... but I make the same mistakes in life, multiple times. I try to laugh at my own stupidity and for me it's just a hobby, I only work with other peoples (or my own) discarded equipment. No great loss except for the amount of useless appliances I have around the place. Even with your extensive skill and experience, these things happen.

@armanesmaeily7087
@armanesmaeily7087 Год назад
Well actually i know what your mistake exactly is and I've been experienced these kind of fault. Unfortunately most of the 3.3v and 5 v alw ic are faulty and when you replace this ic , it will blow one of the high side mosfet especially high side mosfet of 3.3 vlaw and it will let enter the 19 v main power rail to 3.3 vlaw power line and it will blow up the ec chip and pch. You must disconnect the jumper output of 3.3 and 5 vlaw to prevent entering the 19 v to output and if these 3.3 and 5 vlaw were present , you would be allowed to reconnect the jumpers which i mentioned before.

correct me if im wrong but normally if a chip is blown up it's caused by short circuit or something, so if you gonna change that chip you need to check what was the cause or the new chip will blow too.
@winlose3073
@winlose3073 Год назад
that is true but the short can happen inside the chip because it has many components inside much like the thins outside so the chip itself might be shorted to ground and the current has to go somewhere or blow the chip and we've seen many damaged chips that are the only problem.

I think that desision is very good. I have never seen you check coil impedances in your videos. That was big curiosity for me because you always supply power from dc power supply and check the condition. I think that was wrong. Because if there was is a problem in motherboard, charger will cutoff. But dc power supply will not cuttoff and power go through the circuit and then it may be damage to components. As i think 😊. Please explain am i correct???

your “mistake” doesn’t even register with me, Sorin. but i love to learn typical failure modes from your repairs. you don’t use schematics, which would be my starting point, just physical inspection in homing in on your repairs. (mybe schematics aren’t even available anyway.) what would help me is if you could use TEXT OVERLAYS on video, to define what exact chip you are talking about…”io, bios” or whatever. thanks

Of course you can change the PCH, get yourself a zhuomao and buy a PCH from a reputable distributor, make sure it's new, as they sometimes come with interenal fuses set by the motherboard for the damn bootguard, I do it all the time, please change the solder balls for leaded ones to reduce soldering temperature and thus the risk of damaging it
@pp3v42_g3h
@pp3v42_g3h Год назад
" interenal fuses set by the motherboard for the damn bootguard" more info on that? It's rare that I have to replac the pch 8mostly because it's an integrated pch and not worth replacing or everything is damaged and I don't take too much laptops for repair). You can't really get new chips, SUHMS is not that bad on ali, but most of them will sell you something and they don't even know where it's coming from.
@pp3v42_g3h
@pp3v42_g3h Год назад
@MrEmiriv Also "zhuomao" is really a "Rossmann viewer" brand, noone actually uses their mechines, Scotle, Honton and now LY are the known cheap brands, do you actually use a zhuomao/seamark station? (And with enough experience you can change these with a preheater and a good quality hot air, but a lower hot air helps to make the reflow profile shorter.)
@MrEmiriv
@MrEmiriv Год назад
@@pp3v42_g3h I do have access to a zhuomao, it was bought about a decade ago in the Age of Reballing, difficult to justify nowadays. I did buy actually new PCHs a couple of times, and also used ones, the thing about boot guard is that not all brands and models have it activated, I heard some Dell do, in that case they RUIN the PCH, so that if you put them on another machine it keeps shutting off 30 MINUTES after turning on, not even a clean ME can save you, only a new (or otherwise unfused) PCH. I'm from Argentina where it's always worth changing the PCH and even the CPU if you can get your hands on a working one, all the way back to sandy bridge even

We all make mistakes, it comes with the territory. I used to beat myself up when it happened almost to the point of feeling incapable or stupid, like maybe I should not be doing repairs, especially when I thought about the waste of time and money coming from my pocket instead it going into it. But as you've said before, we are always learning and sometimes that comes best from making mistakes like this. Customers probably won't understand the hazards of this occupation but those of us who do repair work do. Knowledge & experience go hand in hand but we are all human & humans make mistakes no matter how good you are.
