to me this song about relationships being really important to both people and have huge impacts on their lives even though they don’t work out. the relationship was born to die (meaning end) but she was in it anyways and enjoyed it in the meantime- even though she knew it wasn’t gonna work from the start🤷♀️
The relationship was doomed from the start, so she was determined to make the time she had left as good as possible. Second verse: confused as a little child, take what I could get…she had a traumatic childhood, which primed her to accept love where she could get it, even with someone who would mistreat her. That’s how she grew up, so she fell into that pattern. If you experienced childhood trauma, you often become a people pleaser in adulthood, because you don’t know what you’re worth, and you will accept love from people that treat you poorly. Like trying to take control of the past and revise it. That never works out, and on some level you realize that, but your behaviors are deeply ingrained. More Lana please😊♥️
Really loved your thoughtful analysis of the lyrics! I see it as her being depressed but just trying to make the best of her time on earth (and with the guy she's with, even though she knows it won't last forever) anyways. Please react to more Lana, I recommend "National Anthem" "Blue Jeans" or "Young & Beautiful" for people just getting into her music for the first time,
