The epic story of the 5th Wallaby tour of the British Isles, France and Canada, featuring rare footage and interviews with the men who built Australian rugby. No Wallaby side had ever beaten Wales and, at the start of a gruelling four-and-a-half month tour, the press gave this Australian side no chance. But when Waltzing Matilda rang out in full chorus from the Cardiff crowd, these men knew they had a date with destiny. They were the 5th Wallabies - and sometimes... they were the best ever.
* "A fine documentary" - Greg Growden
* "I laughed, I cried and I cheered" - Gordon Bray
* "Everything was spot on and it was almost like being on tour again" - Dick Taylor (1966/7 Wallaby)
Recorded for the 50th anniversary of the 1966/7 Wallaby tour, this documentary shares all the drama and excitement of rugby’s amateur heyday, and tells how a generation of players lit up the world stage with their football, forged life-long friendships, and then helped mastermind Australian rugby success for decades to come with the foundation of the Australian Coaching Panel that lead to World Cup glory.
Written by THEO CLARK and narrated by GORDON BRAY. Featuring interviews with JOHN THORNETT, KEN CATCHPOLE, ROB HEMING, DICK MARKS and the 5TH WALLABIES, along with commentary by GERALD DAVIES, WALTER SPANGHERO, ALAN JONES, BOB DWYER, JIM WEBSTER & more.
* This is a 30 minute preview edition take from Episode One.

Brilliant documentary. Lovely to see Russ Tulloch in the video. He played with my Dad in the P.O.M.E.S rugby team in London in the 60s.

Great little documentary. Their tour was cemented with their surprise victory over Wales, the thrashing of England notable with the drop-kicks and what is always looked upon as "an unofficial test," defeating the Barbarians. Great tune by John Williamson.

@@johngamba4823 That was the day Phil Hawthorne was injured and replaced by a Victorian who played his one and only test. ireland were too good for the Australians as were the dirty French.But what was remarkable was that the French won the Five Nations with a loss that season to Scotland who lost to England 27-14 who then England went on to lose to Wales 34-21 but had beaten Ireland 8-3.

I'm kiwi great stuff here awesome history pity Rugby didn't turn professional earlier so these guys could had made a living from the game and supported their families. Great story about Ken Catchpole ahead of his time a gifted scrum-half, Captained Australia at 21 Great Stuff Australia.

John Brass. What a nice man a great player for the Wallabies and the Kangaroos.

This wonderful recollection of Australian Rugby should be re-edited to remove Alan Jones. His behaviour in schools, Rugby and other sports,places where he has worked and communities where he has lived does not warrant him being associated with those wonderful men who wore the Wallaby jersey.
