Thank you so much for all your kind words, support and encouragement! 🙏 So much positive energy from you guys and I really appreciate all your comments! Now, some people had mentioned a "GoFundMe" page and I'm not going to do that. First off, there are a lot more people out there in need of GoFundMe campaigns (i.e. people who have to spend many nights or even weeks in the hospital with super expensive care and people who suffer great tragedy and loss with little financial means). I was lucky to only have to spend one night in the hospital. I'm also not sure of what my final bill will be! Anyway, I greatly appreciate such overwhelming generosity and kindness from the community. If you do feel inclined to help support Sandi and I during this set-back, our business HigherRunning.com sells training plans and we do rely on that for a lot of our income and to keep paying our bills. I also have a Patreon page to help support the media work and gear and software I've used for videos and to keep this channel going (although if you sign up and just want to make a one time donation be sure you cancel your subscription on there after one month as it will otherwise be reoccurring!). I do some special content on Patreon as well. I'll keep you updated with my progress and I hope to see some of you at events in the future! Again, thank you so much for your amazing support and for being so awesome! 🙏 -Sage
Just in case no one has advised you of this before, whatever the bill is, don't pay it right away. It almost certainly can be negotiated down by asking for itemized billings, etc. Lots of resources online about this mysterious phenomenon where they try to bill as much as they can, but are able to settle for much less. Get well soon!
You actually look and sound much better already Sage... Don't push yourself and rest as much as you can and you'll soon see the light at the end of the tunnel. Stay hard! 💪💪💪
NOTE TO Sponsors! STICK with Sage.. through this! He plugs you guys .. we’ll be watching to see how sponsors come through, in supporting Sage and Sandi.
Sage was the first prolific runner I noticed wearing Hokas. I was also introduced to Spring Energy through him. If they drop him I would definitely shop around.
In a grownup society this is what the state is for. Think about it, thats basically what your doing, you're insuring eachother. So sad someone like Sage has to face financial stress on top of this.
Get better, Sage!! Please don’t hesitate to let us know how we can help or support! So glad you have a team of great docs in your corner to get ya through this.
Had a pulmonary embolism after a flight back from Europe and, let me tell you, those blood thinner needles work quickly. I think all my pain/discomfort was gone in 2-3 days. It's a slow path to full recovery, but the scary part ends quickly. Good luck!
I rarely comment on RU-vid, but Sage, you’ve made me a better runner. Your content has so much value to so many people. I wish you the quickest recovery. ❤️
This isn't the end for your running Sage, your an Ultra Runner you can dig deep, use that strength to get well and heal, even if it does take a long time to get back. I think deep down you know what has caused this and I think I do too, but I will respect your wishes and leave that there. You are one of the most honest, selfless runners and human beings and you do NOT deserve this. I hope the Universal energy waves that ebs and flows in and out of matter all the time, will focus some of it's positive and healing energy into you and heal you fully. You are amazing and I look forward to seeing you documenting your recovery, you are one of if not THE most respected Ultra athlete in the WORLD dude. There's aa reason for that....you are fking AWESOME and you are one of us. The collective will of hundreds of thousands of people all over the world wanting to see you get better WILL have an effect and you WILL get better. If one person can change the atomic structure of a plant and make it grow faster by putting positive energy focused into it, imagine how that same energy is going to heal you dude. !! You will be fine :-) ...its just gonna take time
@@dimitar297 you have to bare in mind how popular Sage is and how many people follow his channel. It's proof really that those suffering with issues post vaccine are being forced into remaining silent about it through fear of being labelled as someone spreading misinformation or being ridiculed. I suspect privately Sage is absolutely livid not only because of what has happened, but because of the misdiagnosis that could have killed him ! They are lucky he is such a calm and balanced person. And he has my utter respect, can you imagine going through what he is and having to remain calm and balanced about it and keep your thoughts about what has caused it to yourself ??if everyone was a bit more like Sage then this world would be a truly magical place to live no matter where you where. I've suffered debilitating effects post vaccine and I KNOW my'n were caused by it, even my GP is willing to accept it was likely the vaccine, but when I try telling my friends and family that ...and for reasons I can't understand they are not willing to admit there is a link and so I totally understand why Sage is taking the approach he is and like I said we need to look at it and respect him even MORE. He is a far far far stronger person than you or I mate that's for sure !!
@@UDR-Channel Absolutely Well said Ultra Distance Runner, he is truly a remarkable person and I can not begin to imagine what he is going through! .. and mind you, also what you had to endure
What does that imply? And what is the purpose of bringing in divisive political arguments on what is supposed to be a supportive comment to help someone else out. Stop making your life about politics.
Sage, I followed you since years, you inspired me to run more, finish several marathons, go for my first Ultra in summer... And become finally a vegan athlete. It's time to give something back. I just bought an ultra plan (that I needed for sure). Don't hesitate to ask for help. I wish you all the best, stay strong, thank you for your inspiration!
If the sponsers drop Sage, then I'll commit to drop them. We need to support each other at times and it will be great to see the sponsors step up to help their athletes. Stay strong and best of recovery Sage!
I agree with @Max Hayter. Do a Gofundme. We want to help. I'm sure most of us will agree that you've given freely to us throughout the years. Please allow us to give back.
Praying for your complete and fast recovery. Its good to know you had right diagnosis at right time. Shall recover with in no time. May need at least 6 months of anticoagulant. Stay hydrated, Stay safe.? Post covid procoagulopathy..
Sage, I’m a PT and have been one and an active distance runner for the past ten years. If there’s one thing I know it is that the human body is an incredible thing. Continue to follow the health care professionals direction and if you have the will and determination that you have shown the world on this channel over the past twelve years your body will bounce back quickly. Patience will be tested but it will be worth it to run pain free and fast again. 👍🏼
I am very sad to hear about your situation. Will pray for you and your family. It's really crazy what we have to go through in life. Take a day at a time and just do what the doctors say. You are very courageous. It's beautiful to see. Like others mentioned if you need any funding support just reach out to us. Will be happy to donate some amount my friend. I am a amateur runner and want to thank you for all the great advice you have given me here. God bless you and your family!!!
Get well soon Sage. Just think how much you have impacted lives and inspired so many people. So stay strong and fight with all you’ve got !!! Be strong!
to everyone: buy a tshirt or training plan or something to help this guy who has made us all better runners! thanks for the update Sage we are all pulling for you!
I have been down this exact road with a PE diagnosis triggered after an exceptionally poor performance in a running event. I had a clever diagnosis from a skilled doctor which I will be forever amazed and grateful for. I had good, effective treatment. I recognise your self-injection. A bit of a journey yet for you to find out why and sort out the best management strategy going forward. Super scary to start with and hundreds of questions, but it calms down quickly and the answers fall into place. After a very short time I was back running and now, four years on, it's a dimming memory and my individual risk of recurrence is now mitigated - but yours may be different or require no mitigation at all. Thanks for posting this. I learnt along the way that runners have an elevated risk of DVT and PE and so, with your profile, you may help get this message out. Much empathy and very, very, very heartfelt best wishes.
Hmm interesting I never knew that. Maybe they have more red blood cells and that increases the risk? I'm also curious if pneumonia could impact someone like sage so severely. I haven't watched his other videos, but maybe that's what tipped off the docs that something wasn't right. I would guess sage would be able to comfortably boston qualify with pneumonia. The pulmonary embolism is more serious like he said and I'm glad nothing bad happened and I hope recovery goes well.
10:24 been watching you for years buddy. Sorry to see you tested like this. Wishing you well from a UK runner you've inspired along the way on many, many occasions. I can think of four or five videos of yours that were deeply inspiring. Best wishes dude.
I can't post the links but... 1. Krispy Kreme 5k Challenge 2. Clifton 1 Review 3. Random Montage of Instagram Video Clips 4. Training For Comrades Uphill Tempo Run 5. Training for UTMB '17 Sonoma 50 Vlog - I was waiting at the finish for you at UTMB Sage but had to leave before you finished to check into my hotel after you got delayed!!! 6. Grand Canyon R2R2R
Stay strong Sage! I had to be on blood thinners for 1 month too (same thing with the needle in the stomach). I broke my foot and doctors were concerned about blood clots. It was a hard time... My season was suddenly truncated and there I was, barely able to do basic things on my own. There will be some highs and lows, but u will come back stronger. Hope to see u running again in Boulder soon!!!
This is the first video of yours I have ever watched. When you broke down it got to me. So sad that Americans fear healthcare and hospital costs whilst the politicians that take money from insurance groups get free and unlimited healthcare.
My first comment on RU-vid ever: All the best Sage! Keep going, stay strong! You are a true inspiration and I learned so much from you! You gonna handle this man!
Hang in there Sage. Things will get better. For every cloudy day there is a sunny day. Stay in the moment, take things day by day. Wake up every morning and be thankful for everything you have. There are people in even more difficult circumstances than you. Stay in the present and concentrate on what you can do, not what you can't. You'll make it through this and better days will come.
thanks for your comments about being sensitive especially in these pandemic times - you're the second YTer who has brought forward a medical emergency that we all have to be aware of...
That's so scary, glad you finally got an accurate diagnosis so you can steer the ship straight towards recovery. I second the comment on reporting this as a possible vaccine side effect, it might not be related at all, but if it is it should be noted. Blood clots seems to be a more common side effect of the covid vaccines then we like to think.
Keep your head up and make the best of your resting time. One thing a friend said to me when I was laid up for a while was: "Use the time. Don't let the time use you"
Sage, you really helped me prepare for my first half marathon ever one month ago. Couldn't have done it without you. You are appreciated and I am praying for your speedy recovery. Rooting for you, just like you root for us! Peace and love. ❤🙏🏽
Hey Sage, I lost a friend to a pulmonary embolism about 6 weeks ago (aged 39 and almost as fit as you) on a run. So glad you are at least alive and recovering. Praying you make it back 100%. I bought one of your plans a couple of weeks back (before I knew about your mishap) purely because you (and Sandi of course) produce such awesome content. Thanks for what you do! (So glad it can make a tiny difference to your health bills). Viewing your situation from across the pond in the UK the US medical system in a complete injustice for such a great country. Anyway, wishing you all the best. PS: Im using your plan to try hit a marathon PR at age 44. Will be running it for you buddy.
I had a PE in 2018. It came about in the middle of my tennis season. With the help of a daily blood thinner, I was back on the court within 3 months. I took up running this year and am up to 4 miles/day since I began 5 months ago. I’m in the best shape I’ve been in since I was a teenager. Listen to your doctors and don’t focus on how it happened. What matters is you listened to your body and did something about it. Recovery is a process, just like training. Apply that training focus to your recovery and you will come back 100%. Good luck and congratulations- you are a pulmonary embolism survivor!
So proud of the man Sage Canaday and especially when you got emotional and did not edit it. Hope you´ll make the fastest recovery and will happy donate some modest amount if you´ll set up a fund.
I am very sorry to hear about this terrible diagnosis. Had a blood clot myself in the leg quite some years ago. Lungs are worse of course. Glad you are alive. Be patient on your recovery. The good thing is, now you know what you are dealing with and what to do about it. All the best.
Sage…I am watching this right after watching your video about losing your home to a fire. I am so sorry for your 2021. My prayers and thoughts are with you.
Sage, as I mentioned on your Instagram post, I suffered from an undetermined bilateral PE back in 2013. In hospital for a week doing all sorts of tests to find the root cause. They never did. I have since spoken with several PE survivors, specifically endurance athletes who had the same experience. In the absence of the usual causes - long haul flights etc, the theory of doing an ultra event and dehydration causing thickening of the blood leading to clots and PE is a consideration. Makes sense to me anyhow. You'll bounce back after a period on thinners, the lungs will respond and return to full function again. All the very best Sage.
I'm really happy you figured out the real problem, that's the most important part. But the way that you really emphasized how much you don't want people to "speculate" on the cause, makes me feel like you already know.
@@Vo2maxProductions Occam's razor. The chances of a bilateral pulmonary embolism shortly after receiving a vaccine that causes blood clots being caused by anything else other than the vaccines or the vaccine having absolutely no roll in causing the embolism, is pushing the lines of a 1 in 10's of millions. Even if you're genetically predisposed (which is not likely) your active and healthy lifestyle would completely counteract any increased genetic risk. If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck.... wish you the best.
@@dmfaccount1272 lol so you're an elitist... okay then, to use your explanation... "in explaining a thing no more assumptions should be made than are necessary" Notice it doesn't say that no assumptions should be made at all. Assumptions can be evidence based, usually the simplest assumption is the correct one because it requires the fewest and more closely correlated factors. You are correct, it is an assumption that his bilateral pulmonary embolism was cause by a vaccine that that is known for causing blood clots, however it's like if I swell up immediately after getting stung by a bee. It's pretty likely that I'm allergic to bee's. However, that's an assumption because until I get an allergy test done to determine if I am in fact allergic bees.
I'm so relieved to hear they caught it and you're being treated, what a scary thing. Thanks for keeping us posted on your progress. Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Richard Murray pro triathlete is going through some cardiac issues, he is experiencing AF right now. I wonder if you could get some support from him on how to cope with such a significant challenge. You'll get through this Sage, and you deserve all the support that is coming your way. You and Sandi are such amazing people, that only good things should come your way.
No no no don’t break my heart , you are a every strong person internally and externally. You are still young and have a long life a head of. You supported us through your videos all these years. This is a small test you are going through and you will pass with an A+ degree. Greetings from Kuwait 🇰🇼
Medical doctor from Malaysia here. Probably you need to run more test to find out why you're getting the pulmonary embolism. Get well soon sage! Stay strong, keep running, will always be supporting you like how you support us running!
As an MD, here’s my comment: I wish you well and hope you come back stronger. Once you feel better, you will to investigate why you had a bilateral PE at such a young age. The point being: do you have an underlying condition that may cause PE to recur? Will you need some form of prophylaxis? Anyway, first take care of yourself now. All the best.
@@toddfisher9450 lots of people are experiencing the same as sage. Lots! That second shot seems to be a common problem Why? Why are so many healthy people excusing these vaccine companies? A MD just completely excused it ! Are we that caught up in to the politics ! My goodness!
@@durianriders That's because the US government has removed all liability from these vaccine-producing companies. If they make you sick or you die, you are on your own. But just look at how they profit from making you sick. They produce and make billions from other meds to cure you of the conditions that they caused. And we cannot even begin to understand the long-term consequences resulting from bodies producing these proteins/nano particles over a lifetime. It's a multi-billion dollar racket here in the US.
Hang in there man. You will come out of this stronger. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family as you recover. Thank you for your positivity and candor.
Sending all the love and positive vibes your way Sage! You and Sandi have been inspiration for years and demonstrated your strength and tenacity in both running and life. You’ve done hard things, and you will get through this!
@@MoonLight-qw8sz Lemme guess, American? The rest of us figured out that people aren't rational consumers of health care. You don't decide on consuming health care, you need it when you need and you have little choice. Most countries use a single payer system that allows universal access. This means no profit motive in health care, and costs are MUCH lower overall. Heath care costs are a leading cause of bankruptcy in the US. This isn't holding back your economy? How many people don't change jobs or become entrepreneurs because they might lose health insurance. Universal coverage works well in all developed nations.. US insurance companies feed lies to the US public to convince them otherwise.
I am so glad that you went to the hospital and got the CT done. Now that you have the correct diagnosis, I hope that the road to recovery can really start. Speaking as a doctor who has had deep vein thrombosis in the past and endured the constant needle picks, I am confident that you will conquer this involuntary obstacle and return to conquering the obstacles of your choice.
Wow, I can't believe you're still alive. It's a miracle! Did you have a blood test? Have you had a vaccine? Some blood clots are linked to low blood platelets after having a vaccination. Again, miracle you're alive after all this time and continuing to exercise. It's a miracle. Keep going sage!
F**k speculation...what matters is you are getting to the bottom of this. Wishing you a proper and full recovery Sage❣️ You are a true power of example so thank you.
Fellow runner. Been following your training talks and strava for a while. This breaks my heart to see, but I'm glad you have a good diagnosis. Praying for your recovery and for you to get healthy so that you can run again.
On IG, I said I'd be praying for you; I know that sometimes seems like a hallmark card, but I actually am praying for your good health in all aspects & obviously for your physical healing right now. There is also, as you know amazing power in community... hope you feel the love, concern and positive attention of this running community. We all want you to get better. Do your best and lean on others some, if that's what it takes. Be well!
yeah I don't know. It's usually not with the Pfizer vaccine (which is what I had) though. Like they've done millions and millions of shots and there's only been a few cases reported I think (not J and J but Pfizer). The other factor is that I pretty much had symptoms the day after my vaccine....which I think for a blood clot would be too soon? (maybe like 4-5 days after an event or even a week would correlate better if that was an influence?). The truth is I don't know. There are a lot of things that can cause blood clots in athletes even (way before COVID and these new vaccines). I don't have any answers yet though.
