Life goals...I have a quilt wall hanging that I want to hand sew in linen. The design is off of a 14th c. Italian tryptic, The Death of the Virgin. The pattern of her bier is a square within a square, done in red, white and either black or navy. Probably black, or at least that's my first choice. I just have to find my pattern, because I worked out a fairly elaborate quilting design. Hopefully in this lifetime. 🤓
@a_whole_season
@a_whole_season Год назад
@@Traci_Websinger honestly, that sounds like it'd be a lot of work but also very enjoyable. The quilt I'm doing is a t-shirt quilt of all the blood donor t-shirts I've gotten for donating blood over the years, and despite absolutely shredding my hands on my pins, it's been a soothing and pleasantly monotonous project. The hand quilting goes faster than you'd think, and the hardest part so far has been trying to math out the widths and lengths of fabric for sashing. I use an embroidery frame to hold the fabric and just watch TV or listen to RU-vid and I got 7 large squares sewn together and quilted in under 2 weeks. I'm sure that whenever you decide to start on your project, it'll be very fulfilling to finish and it'll look great when it's done!

I love this project - this deep emerald green is such a compelling colour and you look phenomenal in it. I also love how Nicole Rudolph just put out a very similar project which starts from the exact same reference point (Victorian tea gowns and the Aesthetic Movement), takes the same approach (an interpretation of the style from a modern context) yet this is where the similarities end and the results and techniques used are dramatically different. I got such Morticia Addams vibes off of this, and I am here for it! I really get what you’re saying about the importance of fancy house clothes, I have this glorious, ankle length, peach colored, satin night gown with lace trimming. Whenever I wear it, I always feel like some sort of Hollywood golden age movie star, and it tends to make my day tons better. It’s hard not to have improved self-esteem when you invest in your appearance without thinking of what others will see, and I appreciate this video for validating that belief.

Fun fact! I know this is 19th C, but based on a medieval styling. Medieval people did not give a damn which way the velvet went and completely *would* cut their pieces so it zigzaged up and down. Whether you want to is up to you, but that would create a really cool effect too.

An example of an ingenious solution of this problem was found in Prague Castle: In the burial garment of Jan Zhořelecký (+1396), all the front pieces were cut in one way and all the back pieces in the other way. As a result, the difference in direction of the velvet fabric was visible only in side view.

Make sure, to look very carefully at the fabric (in good daylight!) before commiting to buying used curtains, though.
