Sommeil dans le rêve" for saxophone and piano was premiered on May 5, 2022 in Tokyo by the work's dedicatee, saxophonist Ryo Nakajima. The composer tells us "The theme of this piece is taken from one of my piano improvisations. Sommeil dans le rêve is a simple melodic message from a sleeping being in the deepest stage of sleep. He is in a state of rhythmic and emotional weightlessness. Nothing has a hold on him in this lunar imagination. Then, in the middle section of "Sleep in the Dream", this sleeper enters the REM stage of sleep, where he will intensely experience a nostalgic dream of distant islands whose luminous, dreamlike shores reflect the ardor and élans of his past.
But immediately, darkness returns to this dream with the return of the initial melancholy theme. The coda brings the wisdom of fulfillment, where everything is interior and personal, where nothing is demonstrative, in the image of the musical language of this piece, which has no desire for innovative writing. The initial version of "Sommeil dans le rêve" is for oboe and piano. It was dedicated to Violaine Dufès, oboist and artistic director of Concert Impromptu.
The event was co-organised by The Ivry-sur-Seine Municipal Music School (Ecole de musique et de danse) and MusEA a non profit organisation for amateur chamber music players (Musique, Espaces des Amateurs).
