If you've cycled all day long on a bikepacking trip or cycling tour, you know running lights all day long is extremely difficult in that batteries on most lights simply won't last. It's proven that lights on bicycles decreases the risk of being struck by vehicles and certainly is required after dark hours so what's the solution? A son hub dynamo and a sinewave cycles light. This solution Jerry went for on his Salsa Fargo has helped eliminate the problem of lights for long rides and also gives a possible solution to trickle charge a battery pack along the way as well! Thanks for bringing the Fargo down, Jerry and giving us all a chance to see the new setup :)

I have that same setup on my Cutthroat. As good as the lights (front and back) are, the real value is in the ability to charge a battery or device while you're rolling. While on a multi-day trip, I will typically charge both my Wahoo GPS and a small battery for charging my phone overnight every day. Unless the day is short or has an insane amount of climbing that slows you down, charging both is a pretty reasonable expectation. For what it's worth, look for a battery with "passthrough" charging capability. That allows you to charge a phone while rolling by evening out the current. Otherwise, most phones won't charge well at all when hooked directly to the output of the hub.

I have a salsa fargo with Rohloff and gates belt drive…I have a 46t front sprocket, do you know if a 50t or 55t would fit by chance?

I have a salsa Fargo! And I have been looking for ages for a little front rack for a small bag. What is the one he uses? The forks are so wide and I struggle knowing which one will fit.

I believe that is a Nitto front rack.

Nitto M18, but I had to purchase Rene Herse struts because I didn’t like the clamps on the ones that came with it. Seems to work pretty well!

@@BiminiJerry hi all the way from the Italian Alps, i've landed here as inquiring on matching a son deluxe with a beacon light, just like you, but finding this vid here now i'd really use knowing your handlebar rig in full detail! (Just brands/models would be great, if you could...) not the tech supports but just the bars/barends... i clicked on your channel here but apparently no videos or i would have subbed. Respect bud, keep up the good rides! Yeah and for now i must be jeally of the lighting system then too :)

I bet in like two years the market will be flooded with similar solutions for a fraction of the price the sinewave costs. The forumslader has been around for years constantly improving costs far less and you can just hide it in your headtube. Light has to be bought additionally but that gives you the chance to opt for ebike lights too.....

What is that bracket holding the Beacon to the bars?

It's a mirror bracket.

I still don't know why there is such a stigma about using a dynamo on a pedal bike! After all your Car/motorbike uses one, it's called the alternator! You wouldn't buy car that had to have the lights batteries replaced/recharged every 6-8 hours, would you? Unless it's a Tesla!!!

Too tiny light... Hence, why you just need to build your bike from the start, stock bike sucks...

Yeah I hate battery lights to unreliable, they are great as a second light but you can't beat dynamo lighting. Not only that dynamo lights last for ever, years and years, battery lights your lucky if they last 2 or 3 years and decent battery lights are not cheap.

Very true Nick. Battery lights sure lack reliability.

True! The dynamo is very smooth, and the sine wave beacon seems to be tough as nails, and I really do like the light pattern that it sheds I’ve had it in several rain storms, and some different lighting scenarios. It is quite good so far!
