During the course of the murders, when the police sketches were released, one of them looked precisely like a man I worked with. And I mean exactly, down to the number of hairs crossing the forehead and the shape of the face. It had me worried that this man who didn't seem at all like a criminal might be the killer. As the murders continued, the level of fear rose. Nightclubs and discos reported less business, people were afraid of walking streets, and women cut or dyed their hair. The city was on the brink of financial collapse, there was a blackout the month before he was arrested, Elvis Presley died a few days after his arrest. I left for Europe a week later, where it was news. And the disco era, indirectly, played a role in the crimes. To this day when I hear some of those songs it hearkens me back to the days he created an unreal sense of horror. Today I can look back on it with some sense of clarity, as well as a time of my sometimes wild youth. But at the time Berkowitz had me and a whole city in the tightest grip of terror.

Not necessarily, eyewitness testimony and sketches the not used as much anymore because they are subject to bias and usually unreliable. People see different things and depending on the interview can be easily swayed. Its been proven by FBI studies.
@@brianlogan4243 One is not going to mistake Berkowitz as being 6 foot tall and blonde. Sketches generally have some resemblance to the perp. There were way too many variations of the killer as seen by witnesses and victims, and further hard core evidence suggests that there was more than one shooter. The NYPD made major errors in their investigation and did only the minimal of post investigative work and never once interviewed the real life son of Sam Carr, John "Wheaties" Carr or his brother Michael Carr who both died under suspicious circumstances after Berkowitz's arrest.

Its not so much the verbal description but the old techniques police used to focus on a suspect. The old method was choosing from a group of pics, its bad because its easily coerced even accidentally, it forces the person to choose even if unsure. Check it out if you dont believe it. He was arrested 14 years later in 2005. David Berkowitz was not a serial killer, he was one of many involved with a satanic cult carrying out the instructions of the cult elders. John "Wheaties" Carr, the real life son of Sam Carr was part of this cult and was drawing the Son of Sam symbol long before it was ever published and he was never once interviewed by the police after Berkowitz's arrest, despite the "John Wheaties rapist and suffocater of young girls" reference in the letter. His brother Michael Carr was also a member of this group and both died under suspicious circumstances after Berkowitz's arrest. While this may not be evidence that he did not act alone it certainly warrants further investigation by the NYPD which they never did, I suspect because they didn't want to look bad due to the many leads they received but never followed up on. The eye witness who saw Berkowitz take the parking ticket off his car has stated that there is no way that he could have committed the murder about 5 blocks away only minutes later between the time she saw him and when the shooting took place. Independent investigators have run through that scenario countless times and have come up with the same conclusion. The 44 caliber killings stopped because the cult had their fall guy Berkowitz in custody, so why would they draw more attention to themselves by continuing to kill with a 44 caliber pistol. I could go on and on with more circumstantial evidence that was never looked into by the NYPD, all of which suggests that Berkowitz did not act alone.
I remember back in the late 70's it was believed Berkowitz did not act alone. Some of the victims and witnesses said they saw others, not Berkowitz. This was back in 1979...so we know he didn't act alone. The police and the media didn't want to follow this up, they wanted this over and done with.

One the the attackers was 6’0 with blonde hair someone mentioned Berkowitz also mentioned in one of his more recent interviews that the Carr Brothers were involved and that he did not do all the shootings he was not in every location there were only 2 he was in when he committed the crime

One of the witnesses identified one of the men as 6’0 with blonde hair Berkorwitz is not 6’0 nor had blonde hair they tried to say they were “disguises” . They also did not present all of the sketches there were 5 different ones total . In one of his more recent interviews he told them they were a group and he wasnt alone . And that he his aware that some of the other killers are now deceased and that the Carr brothers were indeed involved and committed suicide shortly after Berkowitz was incarcerated. The others involved began to “mysteriously” die as well. He said a lot of what was told was true but the media exaggerated a lot or gave false info

Just because you don't have that many people that cares about a person doesn't give them a right to go out and do what he did to those people. They have people that may care about them and they may be helping others in the world for a better life. Never heard that David Berkowitz, was a volunteer Firefighter. He was an Auxiliary police officer. The so called neighbor's dog he shot, was the"dog" who spoke to him. That dog's owner had two son's who were involved with the SOS murders just look at the sketches.
I was a child during this summer, which became the end of innocence for our generation who grew up in New York. It was the first time many of us followed the news of any kind, and it was a terrifying time that seeped into our daily lives. Kids were afraid to play outside as soon as it got too dark. All our games revolved around Son of Sam, from tag, to cops and robbers. The Daily News or The New York Post replaced the comic books that we’d spend our allowance money on. Kids a little older than myself, the same ages of my cousins, were dying. And we were traveling through the thick of it to bring my baby brother to and from chemotherapy treatments in the city. A month later, Elvis dies. No wonder my poor mother had a breakdown that summer.

He didn't act alone mate. There's at least 2 other detective (independent from NYC precinct) that worked the case and determined he did not act alone. NYC police heads were too scared and ashamed to admit it. They feared another panic. The good name of the NYC would've been in tatters for at least 15 years. It was all politics
Not that familiar with the case. I do know he did some of them. I guess there were copycats, it happens. Look at the Menendez case, years after, 2 brothers ,both under 15, beat their father to death with baseball bats whilst he was asleep. Both cases claimed abuse. Neither was proven.
