3:52 man I love this flying scene. I think it perfectly captures how Superman should fly. It isn’t focused on his speed or how powerful he’s flying, it’s all about the grace and beauty of flight. Definitely one of the best flying scenes for sups.
"A reject from Gotham felt that we didn't cover him enough, so he played what he called 'a practical joke'." He lost his wife and his son. He suffered more than any mortal man could endure... but he understood that hope is the light that lifts us out of darkness.
Brandon Routh is the reason I like Superman because he was my first experience of the character. I was glad he reprised his role for "Crisis on Infinite Earths."
Same, I remember when I was like 3 and I watched this movie on DVD like a hundred times. Some parts were hard to watch for me. But other than that, I really liked the movie. I wish they had a Superman emoji, I was gonna use one if there was.
knytrydr73 have you ever heard of opinion DICTIONARY o·pin·ion a view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge. "I'm writing to voice my opinion on an issue of great importance" Similar: belief judgment
This scene is so sad yet heart warming. Superman knows that is his own son but doesn't use that knowledge to disrupt an existing family . It is kind of like Kal El giving his son a Human life with a loving family to know how it feels to be human just like how Jor El did with Kal EL . So Clark becomes Jor El to Jon whereas Jason becomes Joahnathan Kent .
finally someone says it as it is. Man of Steel and Superman returns were always meant for a more matured audience that can follow along with all the subtle and underlying themes. Thats why mostly other people appreciate them more because of the more matured and realistic tones
@@mikailwho hahaha as if, people only want that for selfish reasons with no positive motivations. Flight has always symbolized transcendence beyond the possible.
John Ottman did a beautiful job with this scene's music. And Routh's work speaks for itself, suspect Chris Reeve would approve. Flight scene at the end felt like the best of the original movies flight vibe too, very different than Cavill's flight scenes (also awesome.) Such an under-rated movie.
My opinion: I didnt like the costume, hair, the way he flies, the cold breath, fortress of solitude, not modern day and the fact that EVERYONE likes him. What I LIKE about the film is his character development, drama, cares about the people and no killing. My Superman movie: his appearance would be like in MOS movie costume(dark blue costume) and no hair curls. No corny lines, make him say a joke at the appropiate time(not during a fight). Make him stuggle in society but doesnt give up(where some ppl love him and some hate him). No killing (maybe until the 3rd movie and retires for a bit). Add characters that can lighten the grounded tone, and dont make clark kent corny. Make him relatable. He would be like a messiah in a grounded universe, where inspires some people. Put him in a real world situation like oil rig scene. After a fight or a natural disasters, have him help people that are stuck or underground. Give him a character like bruce wayne in Dark knight trilogy where he actually cared for the people and tried not to kill. No cold breath. Villians that try misguide his moral code, and what he stands for. The flying would be like in Man of Steel where you could see the lines in the sky and hear the sky. Movie should have drama that superman returns had and with action like in man of steel(50/50). Have Jonathan Kent and Jor El inspire him to care about the people, and have martha be scared that he shows his powers. Make Jonathan kent death more meaningful. His hideout would be a ancient ship that he found with kryptonian tech and Not the fortress of solitude. Dont care if its not comic book accurate. Try to film more outside with special effects and less green screen. Like maybe filming in different countries, so that it can feel and look real. Hans Zimmer music.
Reeve made a big point on Superman being that gentlemen, neighbor, or friend who "is always around," if you will. When people cry for a savior, what we have to offer each other is, foremost, a friend. Having someone stronger or faster is something we can look up to. Superman embodies the greatness we can achieve when shown the way. Our capacity for good is what we can identify most with the character.
I don't think people REALLY understand that ‘Superman Returns’ (2006) was a direct sequel to ‘Superman 2.’ That's why Luthor knows where the Fortress of Solitude is and how Superman knocked up Lois. Most people I hear say that they just didn’t really like how Brandon Routh portrayed Superman, but Brandon Routh captured the spirit of Chris Reeves perfectly. He looks just like him at that age (Reeves was also in his late 20s during the filming of the first 2 movies) and totally sold me on this being the same boy scout/awkward dork character from those films. I agree Kate Bosworth was miscast being too young to play Lois (she was 23, while Margot Kidder was older than Reeves during the earlier movies), but as far as acting goes she, much like Routh, captured old Lois very well. Luthor seducing a rich old lady to get him out of jail and inherit her money sounds like something he'd do in the past movies. It's absurd comedy! A staple of the old films. And most people complain that the ending was quick and convenient when that was the case with the earlier films as well (time reversal, anyone?). Overall, I love this movie and it gets more shit than it deserves.
@@ryancute22 Yeah, but that's exactly what confused things. Look at it from Lois' point of view. She loses, what?... couple of days of her memory, Superman vanishes from the face of the Earth, she discovers she's pregnant, years later, Superman returns around the time she discovers her son can throw a piano? Were I her, I would have questions. The fans certainly did. The son was the hardest pill for them to swallow, I think. I felt 'Returns,' beautiful as it was, was too much of a love letter to the Reeve movies. It should've been more of a transitional movie between Reeve's pre- and Routh's post-Crisis Superman, allowed Brandon room to develop his Superman from that starting point through the second and third acts, even put him in a new 'John Byrne' version of the suit to call his own by the end.
I remember watching scene in the theatres with my dad when I was kid. I was so happy to learn that Superman had a son. The he was so loving and gentle with his son made me want to cry.
People Can Say What They Will About Superman Returns, It Was Never A Bad Film, It Is A Beautiful Tribute To The Legacy Of Richard Donner & Christopher Reeves Brilliant Take On Bringing Superman To Life, If You Can Honestly Say That Him Reciting The Same Parting Words That Jor-El Said To Him When He Left Krypton To His Son Jason Doesn't Get You Teary, Then You Were Never A True Fan Of The Donner Films.
I get a lump in my throat every time I see this because Superman finally gets what Jor-El was saying. To this day I am still pissed that we were robbed of a sequel to this movie. I was looking forward to Superman and Son. But the greedy studio heads at WB weren't satisfied with 500 million. They were like, if it doesn't make a billion dollars lets reboot the damn thing. I can't believe Man of Steel made so much money. All Superman did was destroy buildings. Is that what people want to see? Mindless violence and destruction?
Kevin Arco I'm with you, but MoS failed when it comes to Box Office numbers. Let's be logic, the studio rebooted the franchise for $225 millions budget to make $443 millions. It doesn't sound as a successful move to me. Even by putting Batman alongside Superman, they can't make $1 billion, which is a shame for the studio. Captain America is not as known as Superman or Batman, but Marvel Disney figured a way to make it work. MoS was a failure and time proved it. Superman Returns is a deep movie, with great scenes, emotions and story. MoS had no emotion, just buildings collapsing on each other....
this movie far more better than building destruction and have a iconic music ever than music by hans zimmer . this movie make me cry . i wish superman can reunite with her true love .
I actually really liked this movie. Brandon Routh and the general execution of the film seemed really good to me. No saturated levels of action, making those scenes where there was action more impactful. Additionally, I found his personality more akin to the Superman I grew up imagining as a kid, not what is seen in recent movies.
They half kryptonians are still affected by kryptonite and yes they are still weaker than pure kryptonian Unless kal-el got a child with wonder woman Then that child are even stronger than kal-el (They do have a child together i think)
It is the first time for me that I watched this man.Even though I am henry fan I really really liked his Perfomance.Extremely underrated. He is my 2nd favorite now
@@jaytee4374 Well, to each his own. I expect a dark Batman movie, but Superman was always a hopeful character. I don't need a gritty movie about a man in a onsie flying around. I want Thor, not The Dark Knight.
@@jaytee4374 Superman doesnt have to be cool, the character wasnt created to be in that way, he is just a person who cares about being a light of hope to people, trying to help in everything he can always smiling and being a savior, not Someone who is dark and gritty
Nah he is a war dog and acts like a Jesus figure all the time. But he has improved a little bit but is the worst live action superman no offence to Henry cavill
Can't imagine what this would have been like for people who watched it when it came out in theatres. To see Superman actually look like he is really flying would have been awesome
I saw it, there was something positive about it. Sure, there were expectations for more action, less of what Brando called "a friggen valentine." A couple others there thought it indulged too much into nostalgia, then took a dramatic departure with the lovechild plot.
It was. And I was quite surprised this movie was regarded as a disappointment. Personally, I loved it. It was a beautiful homage to Christopher Reeve's Superman. The intro sequence and the ending at the theatre... Wow.
@@stefantomasi4036 Yep it was a good movie. The best moments are if i can list them in order of course: 1)The plane rescue 2)the bullet stopper 3:)the lifting the Kryptonite island (continent) island into space 4:the ending they are other good scenes too but to many to put on the list just those 4 scenes are stuck in my mind when i watched it first loved the movie, i still do. Even played the game to it you know the one one the Xbox 360 Superman Returns based on this movie it has its problems but it was the BEST Superman game you could hope for.
Yeah even my dad and I don't always see eye to eye as much we use to be very close but as I got older things changed but we talk at times and see each other
I know Chris Reeves but never watched his movies so this was the Superman i grew up with. It was the perfect way to continue from the old movies while reintroducing Superman to modern audiences. Especially with the familiar Lex as the villain with Kryptonite to establish the basics before using the other more powerful villains in future. Really wish we got a sequel.
I guess cartoon Invincible could be treated as a sequel if you are a pessimist. But it would be cool to see Superman grow out of surviours guilt and other trauma and become more honest with Lois.
@@ZayneFerguson nope. Hasn't been confirmed by anyone at WB, who hired the original writers for the canon. Like I said, it is a spiritual successor. Same stories, same characters, with some elements from Kingdom Come. Still not canon. It's like DCeased or any what-if series you see in comics. Same characters from the main continuity, but with different stories/timelines. Even Superman Returns wasn't a direct sequel to the Donner films, because they didn't have flatscreens or cellphones in the 70s.
Which means it’s also a continuation of the OG Reeves movies. This Superman canon is officially the longest running live action superhero canon of all time
The one thing about Brandon Routh is that his balance facial aesthetic had me fooled thinking a lot of the flying scenes were cgi when it was really him.
After this film and the episodes of Crisis on Infinite Earth and Supergirl, I hope Brandon Routh comes back as Superman. Like in the scenes in Superman Returns where you only see him as Clark Kent, Brandon really captures Christopher Reeve's spirit
He can help in homework if he wants cuz in the comics and cartoons super can calculate the amount of beans in a closed jar in sec. That's cuz he has a super brain......

I love the ending. They pay homage to Christopher Reeve by having this Superman fly into space and over the earth like he did in the first 4 films. No so much in Man of Steel though.
Uhh did you miss the part in the First flight scene of MOS where he flies into space? That was a completely obvious homage to Christopher Reeve and his Superman
"You will go far, my little Kal-El" was what Marlon Brando, playing Jor-El, said. It DEFINED who and what Superman is and why we will love him for 10,000 years thanks to Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster......annnd Marlon Brando. Kal-El is what society makes of him. Like the clay that makes the Judaic monster called Golem, he is a product of us. Except, Earth was truly lucky that he ended up in the bosom of Martha and Jonathan Kent - two beautiful humans who raised their Clark with such devoted care and attention. When the clay matured, he became The Man of Steel. That is a testament and was always meant to be a testament to our deep sense of good and community, spanning all nations, faiths, structures and ideals.
You’ll make my strength your own you’ll see my life through your eyes as your life will be seen through mine a son becomes a father, a father becomes a son
