The reason Russ and The Lion seem to hate each other is because they are so much alike. They see themselves in the other and also their own shortcomings and flaws, and they don't like that. But I have no doubt that both of them would go to the end of the universe to save the other. It's in my opinion probably the closest to how real brothers act, in the sense of "The only one to get's to tease my brother is me" kind of way if you know what I mean.

Gone are the times his brothers are within reach in star systems. He was created to be a weapon. A tool of the Emperor. That also has changed. He is no longer simply just the executioner utilizing furious concentration. He is now a hero. A protector that the Imperium of Man desperately needs. Dude, could you please do a full 40k audiobook or drama? Your voice and the way you read os perfect. Especially from a loyalist view. And I speak as a copywriter with almost two decades of ad agency experience. In that time I've worked with and directed close to 1,000 voice artists. One of my duties is to find the voice to bring my scripts to life and then directing them to get the perfect performance, so I do know what I'm talking about.

@@danielquintonvo well Aborder Prince is one. He has loooooads and has a pretty big following so I'm not sure how he pulls it off. I don't own any of the books so I can't confirm if he is rereading it word-for-word or if he maybe rewrites things? Also, Baldermort recently did each of the Arks of Omen books but I'm pretty sure that he actually wrote his own story, using the text as a base. It's interesting how it describes the space marine to be near the Lion's own height. Models and pictures always portray the primarchs as towering figures, larger than all around them, but the books show them in a different perspective, where custodies and some space marines might even be larger than the Lion.

WoW! Haven't read much Mike Brooks, but if this is the standard by which he writes, he's a match for ADB or Abnett! Definitely on par with Guy Haley I'd say. Also, such a different take to Lion. In HH books he is this unrelenting brutal exterminator, but here he is actually trying to save civilians AND his 'Fallen' sons! A noble knight befitting of the Dark Angels' Arthurial theme! Man I can't wait to get this book! I can't wait to see where this will take the Lion!

Agreed! He absolutely nailed it with this book, as befits the return of a Primarch! It did also make me a lot more excited for the return of the Lion, too. He was always cool in HH but, a bit too one note at times for my tastes, very bullish and cold but this turn he has had is spectacular! Adds so much depth to him, and deepens the Dark Angels as a whole, too! Masterful writing. Thank you for watching!

I like the little nod “more theoretical than practical” made about their cloth beds. Perhaps it’s coincidental but I think it’s a reference to the “practical vs theoretical” schtick of heresy era Ultramarines.

Edit: The Epilogue is now up for the same book! check it out! Wanted to get this out in a decent time! This book has been spectacular so far! and, it is exciting to see the Lion back in action! I loved these specific excerpts too for how well they show the Lion's instinctual abilities and the pained, crushing return of all of his supposed failures prior to his... extended nap.
