I wrote this song as a tribute to "Hannah Hauxwell " who lived an isolated and harsh life in the Yorkshire Dales. A documentary "Too long a winter" was made about her and she became well known.. Living on around 200 pounds a year with no running water or electricity she tended a small herd of cattle.
Despite being so poor she appreciated the beauty of nature and loved just looking at the moonlight on the water from her kitchen window.
Rohan is accompanying me on the cello and Spike playing the bongos ...

LYRICS:
Moonlight on the water, makes my heart sing
Ain't got no money, I don't need anything.
The dry stone walls need fixing, but I'll wait until the Spring
I'll chop some wood and light a fire, a blizzard's comin in.
CHORUS
Winter's are hard folks say, why don't you go ?
When the river is frozen and the roads are blocked with snow.
The cattle are waiting,in the field below,
I'll tend to them the best I can, despite the sleet and snow.
I'll carry their fodder and I'll call them by name.
Winter's are hard I know, but I'll stay just the same.
CHORUS
