Practicing improvisation, Wednesday, June 20, 2012. "Song For My Father", by Horace Silver, 1965. Accompaniment is from Jamey Aebersold Vol.17 entitled Horace Silver.
One of my favorite jazz pieces for trumpet. Expertly played . I have been playing for about a year, how many more do I need to get to your level Chuck!
I can play the header but really struggle on the fast descending trills if that's what you call them. what are the notes for the first phrase and any tips for nailing that descending bit smoothly and quixkly. I get stuck at notes 4 to 6. if I get it right there I should get the following 3 phrases!
really nice work! love your style of improv on all your videos but this one is especially smooth and mellow-working on Another You and will "borrow" a few of your licks-thanks for the posts
Never heard of you before but am very pleased to have discovered a very talented musician. I love this track and searched YT hoping to find someone playing a trumpet solo, hence it leading to you playing it with a flugelhorn. It / you sounds fantastic. Well done.
Poor embouchure, for sure. The lip will deform anywhere you place the mouthpiece. Center is correct, I can hear air escaping from the sides of the player's lips.
