Here is a test clip from Disney's Song of the South, I just got the whole film a few days ago and this is a test of the color corrected scene, Enjoy zip a doo day test from 16mm
As a kid, I looked up to and respected this man and actor. I lived by this song. " Be happy to be alive." Can we put the politically correct b.s. aside ? Appreciate this history. Especially in giving all these actors their needed and much deserved respect.
As a child I was so amazed by the man who was able to speak to cartoons and tell the stories of these characters. I wanted to know more stories and sit with him. This song and these stories have stayed with me my whole life to the point I have a book, a movie poster, and drawings. This is simply the best.
Please do the whole film, please. This was a fantastic effects edit. Especially seeing Brer Rabbit’s home at night looked so much better. I was actually able to see it.
I was 3 years old when this movie was made. After a terrible time in Britain being bombed and engaged in WW2... This movie delighted me, my family and friends to no end. As a child i only saw love and friendship in this movie.. After leaving Britain in 1949 I never encountered any black people as their were none where we lived...I married in 1963 and moved to the east coast of Canada and I remember driving through a Black community each time we went to visit relatives. i would see a three story house sitting a way back from the road that had a big veranda on the front and would dream of seeing Uncle Remus sitting there on a rocking chair....I wanted it so badly I would have run up to him and showered his head with kisses. I am now 79 years old and see no racism in this movie - only the innocent love I felt as a five year old when I first saw it. I wish everyone would feel the way I do toward the rest of the people in the world - when they don't they don't know what they are missing....
Doesn't look too good. I mean, yeah, it's 16mm, but why all the frameblending? That should really be unnecessary considering this is sourced from actual film.
This was rendered in 1080P and I don't know why youtube down grades it to 720P, that is something I don't understand. I know my raw RU-vid file is 1080P, I will do some tests to see if I can figure out what is wrong, Also what is frameblending ? , I don't understand what you are trying to say. I just think you like to complain.
Frameblending is when two video frames which are really separate pictures are blended together -- and it happens numerous times in this video. It *shouldn't* need to happen because the source for this is analogue film; and film always presents the frames as full, separate pictures. Because of that, I believe the frameblending is a mistake that happened at some point during your digital rendering. Believe me, I'm not saying this just to complain. I'm saying this because I think it's a real problem, and most likely a problem which you have the ability to correct.
This and So Dear To My Heart are two of the greatest Disney movies ever. So sad that some see it as racist. It's warmhearted and reminds us of brotherly love among the races. Please bring it back!
Even if the attraction is changing, this will probably remain a company anthem that is beloved by so many! But did you also know that in 1947, the year after the film released, the song topped in the music charts with versions by Johnny Mercer, Sammy Kaye, and the Modernaires with Paula Kelly? Song of the South won Academy Awards for best song and an honorary award for James Baskett’s portrayal of uncle Remus.
The test shots are pretty good for raw footage. A decent quality print, with no missing frames or scratches across the frames. I hope your restoration efforts go well, if that's what you intend to do. The sound, while not bad, is typical of films almost 100 years old, and needs some processing as well. Optical soundtracks have limitations, and perhaps dubbing in a VHS copy of that optical track would be an easier effort. Thanks for the post, I hope this goes well and can provide a lost classic another way to be seen as it was intended.
@@lightlysoul152 Due to the racial overtones, Disney has this Locked in a vault. Would be FANTASTIC If Randa would put the entire movie on U Tube But I doubt it would stay Very long.
I read somewhere that the animated sequences are not nearly as controversial as the live action elements. In fact those, all the songs and of course Uncle Remus himself are all I ever liked and payed attention to about the entire movie.
What I took away from this movie, having seen all of it for the first time in about 2012, was that racial discrimination is wrong. People of dark skin and African ancestry are people, same as me. They love, laugh and cry, just the same. For anyone to be enslaved or treated as secondary or lesser people is wrong. If that’s what this movie teaches, what’s wrong with that? That magnificent gentleman, Uncle Remus, in this video clip is the hero of the movie. If you have a heart, this movie will bring tears to your eyes. He may not be well educated but he’s got more wisdom, love, integrity and smarts than the board of directors of modern-day WDC and the leftists and woke-pushers, and all of the D party. I guess that’s why they needed to ban the film. It places people of color in a high place in the heart. There’s no better place to be. That’s what I think.
please upload the whole movie! it is such a cute movie that deserves to be shown. to hell with those people that say it's racist! plus, it's the 70th anniversary this year! thank you so much
I will upload the whole film as soon as I am done color correcting it, I have about 20mins of the film left to go, maybe in about 2 weeks, The middle of Jan. 2017.
If and when I do upload it, the film will be on a back up RU-vid channel, Not this one, I don't want to have to upload everything again and lose all my Subs, who like my videos. I'll let everybody know when it happens.
Hbvideos also, you can create a free account on archive.org as well, I think. it is a legitimate website for outdated movie and video and audio/text downloading you could put it on there and then anyone could download it and it wouldn't get taken down.
I hope to soon, But I don't want Disney at my door. Mt plan is to make a new 4K copyie very soon, Right now too much going on, but I will let you know, Luke
You do realize that the film took place after slavery? You do realize, that the musical segments are also just the story he's telling a young boy, so it's fictional within the context of the story? You do realize, that we all know you haven't actually seen the movie? you do realize that singing birds don't exist either, right?
It's a fantasy film for pre-schoolers. The young ones love Uncle Remus, hope to encounter the anthropomorphic woodland creatures, and enjoy singing the accessible, joyful songs. Positive interacial interaction is promoted by Disney via this film. How is this film harshly criticised? Why would anyone expect or demand historically correct societal conventions be depicted in this Disney installment?
And you realize that there are no talking rabbits or frogs either? You do also realize this is a fictional film that portrays an elderly man giving wise counsel to the Youth of that generation? You do realize this film allowed mr. Baskett to be the first black man to receive an Oscar nomination. That this tilm has brought joy to millions around the world regardless of color?
