Impressed to see Airiel get a mention. Indie & largely unknown, they've been around for 20+ years but have rarely gained traction beyond the local Chicago scene. While heavily anchored in their obvious influences, their compositional strengths were among the best of the nu-Shoegaze bands of the 00s. Really love some of their stuff. Yes, Airiel - Winks & Kisses, early 2000s. A classic of shoegaze at a time when almost no one needed it.

I just discovered Airiel a few years ago and they are criminally overlooked. This is the shortest 10-minute song I can think of; it's absolute magic and when it's over, you feel empty inside, ready for a repeat. I don't hear Manchester influences at all, unless you're talking about the drum track. This is pure, refined shoegaze that I'd rank with Slowdive or the Cocteau Twins; this is not what you'd hear at a rave.

8:17 here's a thought: you wouldn't, by chance, be a _Psych_ aficionado? (more affectionately known as a PsychO by the fandom) this song's used in an episode & was my introduction to shoegaze. tbh i never even explored the genre (or Airiel!); i'm simply hooked on *this* song.

Cloudburst is my favourite from them. So sweet. They are from the So. Suburbs of Chicago, as am I. This artist has a lovely way. Don’t you agree? Liquid Paper was the first song I heard of theirs and following that, I knew it was love. Since the Cocteau Twins, I haven’t had love like it. Have you listened to Sun’s Signature? Elizabeth’s new project? Also, do you like Opium Den? Album-Diary Of A Drunken Sun. Or Beach House? Song- Holy Dances?

Chicago doesn't really get that much rain throughout the year as far as i know, while in Manchester, it rains like a fucking lot... all the time, lol! Maybe these guys were desperate for some rain.
