I think Mike was only waving the whip, i.e. showing it to her to encourage her without actually striking her because he knew she was giving her best. I don't think she's really regained her form since her layoff, but I believe she will. Heart and guts in addition to beauty and talen. Can't ask for more. Love this girl.

Maybe she loses all of them, maybe she wins all of them. So tired of people throwing around "what ifs" with this horse. Just appreciate greatness because that's what you're witnessing when Songbird runs. She'll go down as an all time great and she deserves to. Don't get how people can bash a horse for winning.
Rick Legend:Yes, I'm sure Songbird would have defeated monsters like Inside Information and Zenyatta on a regular basis, LOL. She's slower than Inside Information, and not as powerful as Zenyatta. She's lucky to seldom run against a truly formidable opponent.

Depends. who is Mike Smith on? I think he wears male horse smell or something - cause the girl horses do what he wants... i was watching the zenyatta races and tell myself "she's too far back" people were upset in the stands she was so far back man - and then - BOOM she's right there in the top 3... there are many great horse - but there will never be another Mike Smith
Joe Brunner: You're missing the point. Songbird has won all these G1 races because she's generally not had to deal with another top-class divisional challenger. Imagine if she had to face even Unrivaled Belle or Havre de Grace every other race.

The *point* is that if Songbird had to face the likes of Ruffian, Princess Rooney, Lady's Secret, Bayakoa, Paseana, Inside Information, Surfside, Rachel Alexandra, Havre de Grace, Blind Luck, etc. on a regular basis she would have lost several times already. All those females, and several others, too, had better speed figures and ran faster times.
