EP 4: Rang Rangilo
"There are twelve months in a year
six seasons filled with six colourful dramas
six seasons filled with six colourful dramas"
As the year unfolds, the seasons evolve in tandem - bringing their own moods, their own rhythms, and their own natural bounty. The locals of Kumaon recognise six distinct seasons in the mountains. This folk song celebrates their arrival and all that they have to offer.
This week, in a very special offering, Roundglass Sustain is releasing a compilation of music from the mountains of Uttarakhand. These folk songs that we collected as we made our films are a celebration of people's intimate connection with nature. Sung by men and women - while working in the forests or fields, during festivities, or resting at the hearth - these songs take their cues from nature's moods, the colours of changing seasons, and the smells of the earth.
