Songs:Ohia / Jason Molina "Blue Factory Flame" at Bloomington Fest 2000 at Cellar Lounge - Bloomington, IN
From the opening lyrics, the poster in the background declaring "Greatest..." to Jason leaving the stage at the end, this Songs: Ohia performance captures Jason Molina. He was a great song writer and performer, and he left the stage too early. But more so, it is his voice and guitar in it's raw, exposed form that manages to stir our deepest, haunting emotions. I hope fans enjoy this amazing performance. Rest in peace Jason. Thank you for the music. We will miss you.

He’s on the same level as Neil Young. Iconic, unparalleled, unique, unmatched. None compare. His covers are fallacies.

Yeah we can't thank them enough, the studio recording is amazing but this performance is a once in a lifetime version. The guitar buzzing, the guitar tone, the calm/courageous 1000miles stare... Everything about this video is mythical and magical.

fun fact to anyone reading, jason wrote this song about his hometown lorain. the first verse of the song symbolizes his old trailer park where he lived, talking about how fond he was of it, well maybe not the trailer park itself but the scenery around it. rip jason, we miss you.

When I die, put my bones in an empty street Don't write my name on a stone Think of the Coleman lantern and the radio And the Cleveland game and two fishing poles A dad and his boy watching from the shore The ghostly steel and iron ore ships coming home Prehistoric, phosphorescent bones Burning high above the water We are paralyzed by that emptiness Paralyzed by the openness Paralyzed by the emptiness That prehistory's gone with each dawn Clearly iron age beasts You can tell by the chains they drag You can tell by the chains that they drag Through the oil they bleed Her crew of crows flying the skulls and bones They fly the colors of their homes I fly the cross of the blue factory flame Stitched with heavy sulphur thread They're not proud colors but they're true colors The colors of my home And I am paralyzed by that emptiness I'm paralyzed by that emptiness Paralyzed by the openness Along the shore, one thousand miles I hear it calling my name I hear it calling my name I never hear it say come back home And I am paralyzed by the emptiness I'm paralyzed by the openness I'm paralyzed by the pain Blue Factory Flame ~ Jason Molina, 2000

I'm struggling with trying to drink or not but when I hear Jason it just I just have to drink and that was his thing but you can't get this type of noise out of a sober person I'm sorry... So I guess it's like you could be a sober genius with no words really or you could be a drunk genius with the greatest words in the world. Take your pick. And you can't get here fast enough..... You can't get there fast enough... Nobody can get there fast enough.

Not true but OK. Jason was a teetotaler for a long time and his drinking only became a big problem years after this. He wrote amazing songs and lyrics years before being burdened by alcohol. I recommend you read his biography for my perspective.

When I die put my bones in an empty street to remind me of how it used to be Don't write my name on a stone bring a Coleman lantern and a radio Cleveland game and two fishing poles and watch with me from the shore Ghostly steel and iron ore ships coming home [Repeat: x4] Where I am paralyzed by the emptiness Clearly iron age beasts you can tell by the rust and the chains And by the oil that they bleed the crew and crows fly the skulls and bones They fly the colors of their homes I fly the cross of the blue factory flame Stitched with heavy sulpher thread/threat They ain't proud colors but they're true colors of my home [Repeat: x4] Where I am paralyzed by the emptiness Every mile for ten thousand miles and every year for a thousand years Every night for a thousand more I hear them calling [Repeat: x2] They never say to come home [Repeat: x4] Where I am paralyzed by the emptiness
