Went from Bertram Byler the 3rd - Professional Whiskey Connoisseur to Little Babyfaced Burt Byler, Glen & Wanda's mischievous kid from around the way, with nothing more than a couple swipes from the razor I shaves 8 minutes ago and already have more hair on my face and twice that on my balls
This was my late boyfriend's favourite song. We played it on the only big road trip we got to take together and I remember watching him drive with this song in the background and feeling a love that would make me pine for the grave one day at the end of a long life together. He died a month after that road trip when I was 19 year old and this song played at his funeral. To listen to it knowing we were putting him in a grave and I was going to live a life without him was heart-wrenching and I genuinely tear up every time it plays now. We had tickets to Colter's concert a few days after the funeral and his mom tried to contact the venue to get our money back for his ticket. Colter heard about the situation and reached out personally to give us VIP tickets with our own area and we all went backstage to hang out with them for a bit before the concert. He played Caroline that night and we all cried and danced with each other. We went to a concert of his again a year later and he remembered us and invited us backstage again. He is such a generous man. I will never forget the kindness he showed us and I'm thankful every day that he put music to the feeling of losing someone you love and the ache of wanting to be reunited with them. I love seeing other people discover him and his beautifully emotional music. I hope he gets the recognition he deserves, he feels like magic to me.
Caroline is the love of this man’s life! He’ll be home just any old time, is him telling her he’s coming to the other side! The lyric of “times cruel slaughter” is lyrically fantastic in its description! Keep it up!
I think this is about a dead lover. Talks about her dancing in the sky (heaven) and the obvious talk about joining her in the grave. Absolutely beautiful song and as always chilling vocals from colter.
I wish there were more videos of this out there. I probably listen to this song once a week just for that chorus. Also, Colter as a young man (assuming) singing about being a widower that will someday reunite with his loved one is somehow still believable.
Yes!!!! You have reacted to this piece of greatness I can officially say that my request was honored. By the way I feel like I have been staring at a imposter for weeks I have been lied to all my life!! Caroline is the wife of whoever the old man in the story is
@@SongwriterReacts Now I am a young man but I cried the first time I heard the studio version while my mama was driving. She was like why you cryin boy. I just sobbed and pointed like a animal lol
It's so interesting to watch older videos like this, having heard a more natural-sounding Colter in his recent work, and hearing him say that he really pushed his deep voice earlier on. At first I was weirded out hearing his more-natural voice, but now this older voice kind of sounds weird to me. I think I've mentioned it before, but "Fraulein" with him and Tyler Childers is worth a listen.
@@SongwriterReacts I think Bob Fudge is a good example of that difference. Here's an article, which includes some quotes from Colter: www.savingcountrymusic.com/colter-wall-addresses-changes-in-his-voice-approach/
@@gavinjohnson5888 I'm glad I wasn't the only one who commented on this I'm happy for Colter. That article was made in response to a series of tweets he made when someone asked about the change. You can definitely tell the harsh truth about the sessions going back. It must have been brutal on his voice
ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hh-jwdWmgxg.html That’s the link to CWs Summer Wages cover. Thanks so much for your reaction. Local Honeys sounded great! I hadn’t seen that video before your reaction. I was drawn to Colter’s sound and his song writing. He is able to write in the “voice” of the 1800’s and that’s remarkable because he was so young at the time. Colter reported that he did a lot of historical research. I also appreciated your personal comments about how the song took you back to your childhood memories. Thanks
@@SongwriterReacts I just found his music a few months ago. You can tell he makes that his focal point. Would love to see your reaction to some of his music!
This is definitely about someone he has lost and will be in heaven with someday I thought it was an old folk tune just because it has that sound and he is so young to write something like that but I think this is an original
Hey Burt! I stumbled upon your reaction to one of Zach Bryan's songs... and now I'm HOOKED on your channel! I love your vibe and the songs you react to. Keep it up!
I am the same. I prefer more of the folky styled music. If you liked this song. You have to check out John Fullbright "High Road". It'll give you the same vibe. Weird seeing you without a beard brother. Thank YOU for giving me a place to escape all the commercial crap. And find new people I can relate to who appreciate Americana as much as I do!
Thanks for recommending John Fullbright. Hadn't heard of him before but am now a fan of him. Found this video of him with the great Robert Earl Keen doing Townes Van Zandt's "Snowing on Raton": ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lLAlos0bOek.html. Just beautiful.
@@DaisyMae0929 Haven't seen that video. I will definitely check it out. Robert Earl Keen is amazing, and another singer songwriter so few know about. Thank you!
You could react to Texas artists and other Independents that needs the love. Feels Like Country Music by Jon Wolfe, Man, it brings me to the sound of the King of country music. My Friend Fred by Sammy Kershaw, really good song writing that should have been nominated for the Grammys for best single or song. Big Iron by Colter Wall, a cover of the classic by Marty Robbins. While You're Gone by Drew Parker, he wrote some songs for Luke Combs. Bri Bagwell As Soon As You Loved By You by Tiffany Woys, voice of a Martina McBride with the looks of a Crystal Gayle. @@SongwriterReacts yessir. Probably my favorite channel at this point man. Obviously passionate about what you do and you give awesome feedback. Always look forward to your content. Have a great day brother!
@@SongwriterReacts check out the acoustic cover of War Pigs by The Prairie Cartel. It's the only song they have that's not weird techno stuff but they KILLED it.
Great videos! Have you ever reacted anything from Trampled By Turtles? One of my favorite bands. Their album Wild Animals really good. The song Hollow is great 👍🏽🤘🏼
Young Burt!, you should also check out a ol boy called Luke bell not well known but I think he’s awesome Song requests: rattlesnake man Sand mountain blues All blue The bullfighter
Your reactions and breakdowns are great! This music is saving my soul. It would be amazing if you would react to Zach Bryan's This road I know. It's a poem that is raw and real, so many people could connect with this. Its amazing, thanks and keep up the great reactions!
@@SongwriterReacts yes they are. Thinking on a woman is about his uncle who’s a truck driver, and wild Bill , is the story about wild Bill Hickok . And it’s extremely accurate and very clever lyrics.
@@SongwriterReacts He loves music, all kinds but mostly 80’s rock. He likes country also. He would love to have you as his teacher! You may not want him as a student! 😂
Whoa! Your beard's gone. You are too young to have a beard that old. I love Colter's song and thought it might be about his wife who has gone ahead of him to Heaven. His grave is waiting next to hers in their garden. He does another song on this album, "Johnny Boy's Bones," which I believe is about the Civil War. To me, Caroline seems to fit the same category.
