I've been listening to this album since the day it came out. Since I'm in the UK we call kindergarten nursery or reception so it's only till you said it that I clocked the album means kindergarden to 12 😭😭
you could react to the songs from her EPs (After School and Dollhouse). Dollhouse is Melanie's first project and has 2 songs that weren't included in Crybaby and After School has 7 tracks, it was released after K-12 but even though she maintains the school themes in those songs, it doesn't follow Crybaby's storyline, it's more personal to her. She also has some singles that were released in between these eras.
Meaning of every song according to me Wheels on the bus (Kindergarten): Adults enabling kids’ bad habits because they don’t care enough to interfere Class Fight (1st Grade): Kids being encouraged to fight about love because they are exposed to adults doing so The Principal (2nd Grade): People in positions of power abusing said power (this one is highly theorized to be about Donald Trump, and that is if it hasn’t legit been confirmed already) Show and Tell (3rd Grade): Celebrities being seen as forms of entertainment open to be played with by the public rather than people and that fans aren’t entitled to be pleased in every way by celebrities if if makes said celebrity uncomfortable (this one was originally meant to be on the EP which focuses more on Melanie’s own life rather than her character Crybaby, which is why it might be a bit less about school than the rest of the album). Nurse’s Office (4th Grade): Faking sickness to get pulled from school because of bullying because she’d rather be sick than be in school. Drama Club (5th Grade): Not wanting to be involved in Drama but people pulling you in anyway and trying to belittle you or ransack your reputation Strawberry Shortcake (6th Grade): Young Girls’ bodies being compared to adult women’s bodies and being suddenly subjected to stuff like beauty standards and sexualization just because their puberty started and it’s easier to put the blame on little girls rather than on boys and men Lunchbox Friends (7th Grade): Bullying victim with very little friends having the opportunity to hang out with popular people but realizing that she doesn’t want to have friends because they’re nice to her for one hour everyday or because hanging out with them makes her look cool: she wants friends that will truly understand her even if others find them weird. Orange Juice (8th Grade): Trying super hard to get a friend out of an ED (specifically bulimia) knowing that no matter how hard you try to tell them they’re beautiful and shouldn’t do all of this, they probably have a little voice in their head or someone close to them who is telling them twice as loudly that it’s necessary. Detention (9th Grade): Adults punishing kids for minor stuff that inconvenience them like asking to go to the bathroom but whenever there’s something that makes the kids feel sad or depressed like bullying, the teachers don’t bother to do shit about it Teacher’s Pet (10th Grade): A teacher grooming a student who is in love with him while she thinks she’s mature enough to get true love out of it and knows better than to fall into an abusive relationship High School Sweetheart (11th Grade): A girl and her conditions to find a boyfriend Recess (12th Grade): The Moral of K12, her reflecting on the words her grandma told how and how even when the world is fucking you up and telling you what you should and shouldn’t do you can always take a break and focus on yourself and how she wishes that when she was young she would have payed mind to this piece of advice rather than forgetting all of it and going through all of the stuff she went through in K12.
This was another amazing reaction video! This album was a pure piece of art, and it got me thru sm bc of the topics discussed. And me also being autistic, I feel like that allowed me to relate even more to some songs like wheels on the bus, ect. I love melanie so so much 💓 btw, I'm not sure if build a bear is still in Canada, it might be tho ;))
I wasn't bullied physicaly but I was bullied mentally for my dad's death by a guy I thought was my friend, then he said he had a crush on me. Then proceeded to bully me when I said I didn't like him. I was already struggling with it and it was a sensitive subject for me which he used that to his advantage. It got to the point that the school provided me therapy. I was in primary, year 4 then it went on to the start of year 5. But needed shortly after. Even though this was my case, NEVER, EVER, think a boy bullies or abuses you because they like you. It's not healthy whatsoever.
Hi Jessie, i love your reaction especially the videos for Louis and Niall (my favs) but I would request a new singer that you have never reacted to his name is MIKA and I suggest the album “No Place In Heaven” I’m pretty sure that you will like it ❤️
No because in your portals reaction you mention how leeches gave Series Of Unfortunate Events… The trailer of “K-12” very much had those vibes mainly Season 2 but think pastels.
I agree with what you said that some of Melanie’s metaphors are a bit forced. I think Portals is her best album because the music is more personal and the concept has a lot more room for creative freedom. There are 3 other artists who I think do an incredible job at concept albums: Marina (and the Diamonds), Halsey, and Ethel Cain. I’m not sure if you take requests but you should check out those artists when you can. Other artists who I believe are amazing songwriters and musicians: Rina Sawayama, Caroline Polachek, and Raye.
I think she stopped too early. It is hard to listen to in the beginning but then shows the beauty of our bodies and how we need to support eachother. But I also respect her boundaries if it's an uncomfortable topic 😊
hi, I loved the parts of the video I saw but I clicked off because you mimic a character 'Maranda sings' and she has done some questionable things and as a viewer it made me uncomfortable. this isn't hate i just thought you should be aware. Your cats and your builder bears are super cute and I loved the clip of your song xx
@@toff-tart yeah I understand that :) it’s why I said I though she should be aware incase she wasn’t. I wouldn’t want to be mimicking someone who had done those things without knowing.
