Welcome to, as they call her the Korean Mariah Carey... actually I think, she has better control then Mariah. Also whats really amazing about So Hyang is that she does all her own arrangements .. she is not just one of the best singers on the planet, but a complete musician. Heart of gold, humble and committed to helping those who are struggling in life, instead of going for fame and fortune. This was probably the tamest thing you will hear her sing. She just destroyed "lean on me" and " I have nothing" and gave absolutely stunning performances on " you raise me up" and a song called Arirang alone" all of course with her own arrangement. there are countless others just as phenomenal, but the ones I mentioned are just really mind blowing. I hope you get a chance to listen to them or maybe even react to 1 or 2 of them.. Her rendition of “I have nothing” was so impressive that David Foster himself reached out to her and did a concert together about 2 years back alongside the likes of Brian Mcknight. A similar situation happened with her cover of “You raise me up” with Josh Groaban, “Lean on me” with Michael Bolton and “In the flower garden” with Grammy award winning opera singer Sumi jo. This is a testament to her craftsmanship not just as a vocalist but as an arranger, that makes the original artists want to perform together with her after hearing her version. Regardless of her fame and lack of online presence, she is widely considered among the likes of Whitney and Mariah by pretty much everyone who’ve heard of her. So Hyang is 42 now and has been a gospel singer for more than 2 decades now. This is also why she isn’t as well known coz gospel music is pretty much non-existent in the Korean music scene. And she is also not willing to give up her roots and faith to sign with the many big local and international labels that had offered to sign her over the years. In an interview she said that doing so might make her lose her very reason to sing. And describing her experiences meeting other artists, she said that while she feels fortunate everytime she gets to perform with these famous artists, she is also reminded once again of how precious the peace and independence she has currently. Its honestly inspiring to see artists like her who have reached the level they’re at now, due to the sheer dedication to their craft and can still remain so nonchalant about it. She is a cancer survivor and the fact that she is still at the top of her game and even improving at her age, despite having to constantly deal with health issues over the last 2 decades, is a testament to her relentless dedication and passion for it. What more amazing is, she keeps a low profile despite her evident love for it, and not out of necessity or lack of ability, but out of choice. This is why although many fans see her as a humble angel, all I see is a Hardened veteran with a midas touch and s badass crown that reads “Queen of the most High” (High as in her faith, and literally too as there’s probably only a select few who can match her mastery over the upper register in all of music history} What’s more badass than being one of, if not the top most reacted vocalist in all of youtube without even having an official channel of her own? not to mention she is not active on any other social media platform either. She simply does her own thing as she’s been doing all along, and fans, vocal enthusiasts and other artists alike flock to it coz we’re all used to her greatness. And she keeps raising that bar further, as with her recent 2020 performances on the Beginagain Korea show. Its a show where top artists go around the country doing free street concerts, a pretty timely show considering we all need some motivation in our lives now with everything that’s been going on.
So Hyang doesn't "do her own thing." She is a sincere Christian and a such tries with all her being to do what God wants her to do. She refuses to sign with the big music labels because she is convinced God doesn't want her to. She believes it would destroy her spiritually with all of the music industry's notorious excesses, quoting Proverbs 14:12 "There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death."

I was waiting for this one. Sohyang's the best. She has a gift, aside from her amazing vocal ability, which you'll discover as you watch to more of her performances. One more thing. It is rumoured that So Hyang practises her songs up to 100 times before a performance so that she is 150% comfortable with it and there will be no surprises. I've seen her sing when she was obviously not well physically, but I've _never_ seen her make a mistake. She even did "You Raise Me Up" when she was sick with pneumonia and it is literally one of her signature performances! If there is anyone in this world who is a better singer, neither I nor anyone else knows who it is. I hope you have been able to listen to her top twenty performances. Her performance that night is the best I've ever seen. Bear with me as I try to explain the feelings that ran through my mind. The vocals are flawless, as are the stage, musicians, back up singers, technicians, etc...but we've all seen similar performances from a "polished" standpoint. So what makes this stand out? So Hyang herself. The way she delivers the lines and the vocal qualities. You feel like she's someone you've known for years. When she says she'll be there for you...you know it's true. And not out of pity, or obligation, but because she truly cares. She personifies everything that is incredibly powerful about femininity. Kind and soft, but not weak. Gentle and nurturing, but with incredible reserves of determination and resolve. And moral virtue. The kind of woman men would go to war for. Not to possess her, and not because she's fragile, but because she exemplifies ideals worth protecting. Not the kind of woman to be placed on a pedestal, but one you cherish having as a friend because of her character. At least that's how she made me feel. I hope you felt similar things, because it's wonderful, powerful. uplifting, and rejuvenating.

Yes, she is such a powerhouse. This 42yo korean lady is well known for impeccable vocal techniques. As a full-lyric soprano she hits those high notes with ease, so comfortably. However, the best feature of her prowess is delivering the emotions, in fact, she is an excellent storyteller who is genius in creative interpretation. If you start to take some journeys on her you'll find out how versatile she is.

She's just concentrating on expressing and delivering the message instead of worrying about the technical stuff. She's utilizing all the necessary techniques unconsciously to paint the picture as she sees fit. You can only do that when you have mastered all the techniques and are now beyond that technical boundary. Only the truly gifted and dedicated artists can reach this level in their chosen craft and SoHyang is one of them.

Well said, I can't imagine when they perform together, only Dimash and So Hyang are able to impress me in terms of their vocal and talent. Real Power House. Well done. After King Dimash and Princess Diana you finally discovered Queen Sohyang. I know most of the people reacts to the famous versions of well-known songs but you could be also amazed by her performances on Masked Singer (a Korean competition). I like how always the first reaction starts with "well, what a little and pretty angel" and in few minutes they discover she turns in a vocal beast capable to blow the roof in the air... And I want to propose 2 others singers for your future reactions: - Polina Gagarina - a gorgeous russian woman with a gorgeous voice. She was on Singer 2019 (like Dimash in 2017): Cockoo, Katyusha, etc... - Pelageya - greatest russian folk singer of the moment. Amazing voice skills, always dressed like an ancient princess, I'm sure you will like her a lot.

It's impressive how quickly you picked up the superb quality of her tone early in this performance. You also took note of her control as she executed the decrescendo. Of course who would miss her powerful and indomitable belts and those flowing riffs and runs. She started out as a gospel singer and her rendition of this song clearly shows the influence of her root as you adeptly recognized. She has many magnificent performances on line for us to enjoy. Yap. She is a real power house packed with tons of dynamite. But she can be as light as a feather floating through spring breeze. To me, the one thing that separates her from the rest is her ability to express the essence of song, the real emotions. When she performs, you can feel the emotions pouring out of her is absolutely genuine and it cut through your heart like a knife.
Its funny you mention dimash because many people refer to her as the 'queen' when dimash is 'king' of vocals. Welcome to the bonkers world of so hyang. BTW she is s.korean. she has had many bouts of illness,particularly in the 6 years that i've been aware of her,after beating cancer in her early 20's. When you listen to her you cant understand why she's not a worldwide superstar, well,many record companies have tried to sign her buts she not in it for fame & fortune,she was contemplating packing in but saw a lady in the audience crying whilst she was singing,so she kept going & says that she wants to use her voice to help people get through difficult times. She is a gospel singer at heart but she can sing any genre (rock,pop,jazz,blues,the ballads, & she has been seen rapping believe it or not!) I am so glad you saw her rendition of a song you were already familiar with because you noticed how different sohyangs arrangement of this song was. She is responsible for the arrangements of all the songs she performs,she is a very talented lady. Obviously you can appreciate her talents if she's singing something you already know or singing songs in english but never be put off a sohyang performance if its a korean song,either with or without subtitles, because she knows how to make you 'feel' like no other, except maybe dimash, & she often has me in tears,even when I haven't got a clue wot the lyrics are. Having said that,unlike dimash,she speaks english so she doesn't sing with an obvious accent,her diction is brilliant. This is what I call an average sohyang performance,not the best,not the least impressive,which I know ultimately is a matter of taste,but I think that may give you some idea of what she is capable of. You kept mentioning the power so it may be interested to know that she's only a little thing,I dont know how that little body creates so much power,seemingly at ease. She has an amazing head voice,is known as the queen of mixed voice,which she can take up really high & although she can & often does go much higher,she is also known for her signature note Bb5, which she hits with ease & is a real sweet spot for her. 99% of video's of sohyang will be live performances as she doesn't usually release music video's, however in the last few weeks she had released her version of 'never enough' from the film 'the greatest showman', which to be honest,although a song that I like, i've got a bit sick of hearing it as it seems like everyman & his dog are doing a cover of it but sohyangs version is not like other versions,both musically & visually so its worth 5 mins of your time. I subscribed to your channel because of dimash & I had hopes you'd get to sohyang eventually,the two usually go hand in hand. I would die a very happy person if your suggestion of sohyang & dimash performing together were to materialize. Keep up the good work & your honest reactions
Soul, if you dont know, she's only par to Dimash: for sure the greatest female singer nowadays. This song version is awesome, but other songs you still ahve to react will drive you crazy. Try Arirang Alone, Lean On me, Mona Lisa and then that final impossible song Everyone. All of these songs and many others, are just incredible. Have fun! :)
Watching someone listen to Sohyang for the first time is always a guilty pleasure of sorts...most people have no idea what's coming..XD Do more from her! Over the decades she has given us some truly spectacular live performances, each and every one a sight to behold. He says So Hyang (pronounced as it is written, similar sound to So Young) imida. Imida is a word used in Korean to accentuate politeness, not having a specific meaning of its own. So "imida" is not part of the name just "So Hyang".
Another great singer! They just keep dropping out of the woodwork, don't they? It's unbelievable how much talent is just being discovered in the last few years thanks to word of mouth and RU-vid reaction channels. And also, Sohyang and Dimash are different styles. Sohyang is a noncommercial Pop and Gospel singer. And, Dimash is a commercial Popera singer. Anyway, both of them are the best vocalists with Park Ki Young, Beyonce, Nightwish, BTS, Lara, Dreamcatcher, Park Hyo Shin, Morisette...in the world.
