I am an alcoholic and am 104 days sober today. I went to rehab for 30 days and couldn't have my music.. It was torture.. I can't get through this song without bawling like a baby. I have had him and Tyler Childers on replay for months. Their music and insight has brought me many thoughtful nights and gave me strength to continue. Thank you for saying what you did and I hope your family member is getting better. I love your channel!

Been listening to music for 60 years across all genres This is one of the best lyrics I’ve ever heard with the most simplistic chorus ever “I thought you should know” Amazing story teller. When you pause, please back up just a smidge to get back in the groove. Makes a world of difference. Great stuff!!!

I am 60 so I'm not been listening as long as you but like you I assume music is more than just music . There are those who think that song a song as just a song, and yeah that is okay . But I have been building my soundtrack for sixty years . and was allowed to listen too or purchase their records so, yeah was late to 70's really miss them. Okay you said about the lyric's and chorus , I was just wow . I listened to this once and then I had project that had to start away from a means to listen any tunes and at the end of that period 48+hrs this song was on a continuous loop in a good way ."Kept sing that I thought you should know" and humming what bars of the song and the harmonica , sometimes it brings tears and okay a songs can heal if the person in the place Idk really seams like I'm creepy I'm not that is great because for me its the love the pain and loss , when you find yourself there all of those emotions I just mentioned in the wrong space that a world imploding could be. A song that fits it takes you away from all bs that life, sometimes break you and you never resolved or fixed . I'm sorry this band is hot and most of their tunes are equally awesome, sorry for the book you won't this probably and that is fine. I just felt that you are the first person that saw the story in the song it is tragic sad , but it fits. Okay if you haven't deleted this by now Hey have a great day when you read this or try to , Thank you I'm not sure why but wanted to try and whatever no not looking for a date a friend ? maybe again thanks ! CRAZY OLD GUY.....LOL.

The most gripping line he sang in this song is “I watched you go”, in my opinion, anyway. Most people with addiction will never understand that what they do to themselves doesn’t even compare to what they are putting everyone who cares about them through. While they are downing themselves, all their loved ones can do, is sit by and watch them slowly kill themselves. I think that’s what that line of the song means. It’s sad and agonizing to watch them “go”.

My dad's method of driving home the "stay away from meth" talk was to take me and my sister to meet his cousin (who had also been one of his best friends growing up) that has to live in an assisted living facility because he OD'd on meth and fried his brain to the point that he has no short term memory retention. He still thinks it's 1980 something, that him and my dad hung out just last week, they're both still in their 20's, my dad doesn't have kids yet, and his parents are still alive despite the fact that they've been gone for nearly a decade. After my dad visited with him for a little bit, he took us out to the lobby of the place for about ten minutes before taking us back into his cousin's room again, and his cousin didn't even remember that we had just been there. They had the exact same conversation that they had before, and to him, it was the first time it had happened. Real eye-opener for sure.

@benjamminnw
@benjamminnw 3 года назад
@@SongwriterReacts that’s one of the reasons I follow your channel man. I am just starting (approx 2 years) to follow Americana music. I never knew the genre existed though it’s EXACTLY what I listen to/play. The other genre I connect to is ‘Red Dirt’. I feel like it’s got a lot of similarities. Truth be told, I really don’t care, per se, about genres. I have a pretty eclectic ear and if the music is good or the lyrics are good I’ll listen. Hell, there’s even a rap song or two I relate to. Haha I love the fact that you’re showcasing Americana and that you’re promoting the sound. I just thought the “see y’all down the River” line was PERFECT for a sign off. If you don’t use it then I will on my channel. Haha Keep on keeping on man and I’ll keep watching. I’m looking forward to more covers and originals too. We ever get outta this C19 crap and I might have to come down and check out a live show.

Their albums are very different mix of genres. Their albums could all fit in different genres. The first album is almost a 90’s rock band album. Very Candlebox, The Verve Pipe and Matchbox 20 (a little) but it’s a fantastic album. Anyway this I think was second and was really country, Mud is more Soul/Country mix. The last was purely Rock. The Range is incredibly. Trailer We Call Home and Stone are two great songs. Gone Away is a great song from the first album along with Lonely East Texas Nights. Plenty of other great songs but just tossing a few out

Benjamin tod and "whiskey myers" are completely different. "Whiskey myers" I feel are singing songs that they think people want to hear while Benjamin tod sings songs that are true to his life...big difference

And dying from amphetamines isn't a thing maybe a heart attack or something related to the use of amphetamines...I call sus on the story he's singing

I felt the same and thought about it every time this video comes up (at least 5x). They do die younger, but not as young or suddenly as with heroin. He did have a line about looks fading and onr about Hollywood. I thought it was the junkie look, but maybe he meant time and pretty girls looks fading before they hit it big. Maybe I just nitpick the song/story because of the images of the people I loved that it put in my head the first time I heard it.
