I actually don't mind the Sonic 2 Special Stages AS much in the mobile or Sonic Origins versions since they're actual 3D and move smoothly, but they are nigh-unplayable in the original where it moves at 5 fps and it's impossible to see what's coming around corners.
I mean, they were perfectly good tunes, why not use them somewhere in the final game? (and then there's Oil Ocean, where imo the final theme fits better than what was intended to be its theme [Casino Night 2p])

That last clip spoke volumes. Like as soon as you hear the last bit of the credits in Sonic 2 on a proper Mega Drive system without the rewinds or save states, you know you've conquered a mountain so you congratulate yourself by taking a well deserved rest and think back on what you've struggled to final accomplish.
I used to like that fact but know that I know that they used the mystic cave 2-player music instead of the beta music which is better in my opinion just rubs me the wrong way

ngl, I am a firm believer that all adults with anxiety played Sonic 2 and died in chemical plant constantly. The near drowning sound is what caused it. IT'S ALL SEGA'S FAULT!
