The thing I hate about origins is that they could’ve used the actual beta tracks for the game if they needed to do it so bad but they used a extremely bad version of those songs
Yeah, or they could have used like a mix of the two or SOMETHING. What's in the game is muffled and simply inferior, even for me who grew up with the tracks and prefer them. Launch Base act 1 is a travesty and it loops at the WRONG SPOT.
Apparantly, according to strong evidences, Origins version of the prototype tracks came from a much earlier prototype build than the 1103 prototype. In other words, they used the earliest draft of these tracks.
13:20 funny thing is, Sonic Mega Collection (which is obviously superior to Origins) was sold for only $20 at release. Even adjusted for inflation, that's only $33.81, meaning that it's still a better value than Origins. Sure, it was emulated, but they didn't put any effort at all in Origins. I'm not usually a guy who is just "IN MAH DAYS" or something, but that's bullshit. Origins sucks even compared to some old-ass budget compilation disc
Sonic Jam was only $30 at release and it had actual ports of the games to the Saturn (effectively eliminating slowdown) on top of all the extras you got like Sonic World.
@@urlhnd to be fair, they've put more effort in Sonic Jam than Origins, especially considering that the Retro Engine was mostly optimized for all platforms thanks to Mania. Sonic Jam had to be made from scratch for Saturn, so the price tag was more than justified

Admittedly with how Sonic 3 & Knuckles was made more divergent and had a few creative liberties, in comparison to the more straightforward ports of 1, 2 and CD, I can see why people are more critical towards that (especially on the music front, where the 1103 proto tracks got sidelined for whatever reason)

You should have seen my sister play she was epic as tails because she never played as sonic, because sonic was a boy character and tails was a girl. She was a speedrunner before speedrunners. She was imputing code altering button combos with the claw grab on the genesis pad, basically reprogrammed the game and even made new levels and glitched in the Chao garden, any other game we put in the lock on adapter would glitch that game, give infinite, ammo, infinite lives, sometimes it would removes characters clothes and they wouldnt have anything on, like nothing, I'm telling you this was a sick tails run

I never knew you could spindash through those enemies that get stuck to the ceiling in the Death Egg gravity flip boss fight. I've been almost timing out on that boss trying to kill it from below every time I play.
40:54 I have no idea what you're even referring to here, but if you're referring to THOSE better instrumentations of the tracks, they aren't fan remasters. In case you forgot, those are from the beta that fans found that STILL had unfinished instrumentation (since it's a beta). The Origins music comes from an even EARLIER beta, it's pathetic. It doesn't matter how much you hate the beta music regardless of the instrumentation and stuff, it's important to keep that in mind anyway so you don't say stupid nonsense. In MY opinion, as someone who DOESN'T have nostalgia glasses for this game and its music, the ONLY replaced MJ/Buxer song that I think sounds awful is that FUCKING KNUCKLES THEME from Sonic & Knuckles. That goofy-ass track sounds NOTHING like Knuckles and both the MJ AND prototype tracks are better than that one. Aside from that, nice stream. Something something, insert ukulele joke.
As a certified Beta Track Enjoyer, i absolutely despise Origins and its horrendous Midis. These poor songs have had such a hard time (lul) gaining the appreciation they deserve ever since they first appeared in the OG PC version. People hated them for _years,_ then finally they actually managed to garner some respect with the leaks, only for people to collectively get brain damage and forget about the good, finished versions from the leak because of the shitty fucking versions from Origins. People who say the beta songs suck obviously must also think that most Sonic songs suck because there was a shitty midi version in Sonic Chronicles. Except no, that's not the case, because *one* stupid game having a bad version of a song doesn't make that song bad forever. And also, to respond to your point about the Knuckles theme, the Sonic 3 version wasn't composed by Michael Jackson, or Brad Buxer or any of the licensed musicians. It's literally just an unfinished, placeholder version of the Sonic & Knuckles version. The Sonic & Knuckles song clearly builds upon the idea of the original but with added instruments and makes it not be a 5 second loop (yeah I know about the vocal sample), you can clearly hear the same basic structure underneath the new melody. The beta version is alright but it definitely sounds too villainous, at least at first. It doesn't really fit the "mislead guardian" that Knuckles is, and sounds especially out of place in the intro to Knuckles' story, where he's just chilling with some animals.

@@mrboost4186 Ohh fuck, yeah. Well, I still think it was a placeholder in Sonic 3. It's just so short, I'd say they probably ripped it from the boss theme, rather than built the boss theme around it. Thematically it makes no sense for the miniboss theme to be a version of the Knuckles theme, since they're Eggman's Robots, and it'd be especially weird to hear a more developed version of your own character's theme when fighting a miniboss *as* Knuckles. I honestly don't know anything about music, but I still think the Sonic & Knuckles version just sounds like a more developed iteration of the Sonic 3 theme. It retains that same style but with the added melody that sounds more 'traditional' and ties in to Knuckles' history with the ancient echidnas.

Yeah, I agree with everything you said aside from the Knuckles theme stuff (the S&K one is too goofy for me and I don't think it fits Knuckles lol sorry) I think it fits for the S3 Knux theme to be the drums from the S3 miniboss, weirdly enough. Since that theme is used for fights against bosses that aren't Eggman and stuff. I think it would have been cooler if the S3 miniboss theme was used as the Knuckles fight theme instead tho. And yeah, the proto Knux theme wouldn't fit the intro when you play as him, but they could have changed the intro music to Angel Island act 1 if they kept the proto theme (they wouldn't even need to do this if they used the MJ/Buxer theme instead, since it it fits the intro pretty well)

MJ's CNZ sounds like some unfun circus, while the proto CNZ sounds fun and fast-paced. Buxer's ICZ sounds atmospheric, slower and slightly melancholic, while the proto one sounds like some winter worderland. Buxer's LBZ sounds like you're infiltrating Eggman's secret base for a possible final showdown, while the beta one sounds... rocket-ish??? I don't know how to describe that one lol but it DEFINITELY wasn't meant to sound like a final level. Cybershell mentioned these differences in vibes throughout the zones, and THIS is the reason why, no matter how good the instrumentation is, he (and lots of other people who grew up with the MJ/Buxer tracks) still don't like the beta music. It simply does not fit the "vibe" for the stages in his head. And like you said, that's completely fine. I just think it's important to acknowledge the bias at play here when you say that kind of stuff instead of pretending that the beta tracks have the "OBJECTIVELY wrong" vibe like some people (not Cybershell, I think) do.
