@@yaboipete4678 It's not enough for me that this game will be "right" on PC. I wanted this game to be right on all systems (PS4 for me), but only the modders on PC will be able to properly play Sonic 3 & Knuckles
The worst part is that some members of MJ's music team (Cirocco Jones and Doug Grigsby III) have passed away, meaning these tracks will remain forever frozen in legal limbo.
@@yoman8027 No idea to be honest. Even if all the members of MJ's team die Sega still has to deal with their legal representants (if they had hired one) as well the MJ Estate for any legality involved to these tracks and Sega doesn't seem interested in dealing with them and going through legal headaches just for a few songs given the few ports of S3 in the past and now, the music replacement.
This was actually the first Sonic game I managed to beat, actually, I think this was the first game I beat Period. Then I found out it's supposed to be just the first half of a full game XD
It's definitely the way the music is. As someone who didn't grow up with Sonic 3 but heard the song in multiple fangames, I can't help but feel the nostalgia.
I never owned a Genesis but my cousin did and this music reminds me of the times I used to go over his house just to play this game and other ones too.
@@That_Guy- Honestly I’d prefer if the proto played in act 2 rather than the original ice cap act 2 theme. Even if it’s not as good, it fits the snowy surface of ice cap very well and would have added more variety than just having the same song with a few instruments removed.
Origins ost is literally the proto but with a few flat notes and it sounds like the device was shoved under a pillow and is muffled. I was dissapointed, as someone who enjoys the proto tracks, they really screwed up
@@jamrah8713 That's pretty subjective. The Classic Sonic music is entirely different from Modern Sonic music. Even in the Modern titles, some people might prefer 90s rock and pop of the Adventure Games.
The #1 Runaway Guys Fan I guess so...i just feel sad. I'm not that old, just 26, yet generations of teens today don't even know what it was like to grow up being a Genesis or SNES kid with the legitimate originals of these games...it feels strange to hear the first meeting with the original Sonic games being on Gamecube. Soon enough teens will only remember their first meeting with Sonic being on phone and iOS too, or worse, youtube let's plays, or what the internet has created out of the legacy of the Sonic fandom, how strange will that be i wonder..?
@@Love2HateU dude Hydrocity still plays the same music from the og sonic 3. They only changed the music tracks for Carnival Night, Ice cap and Launch base zones.
I don't know if anybody else feels like this but whenever I listen to this song it has this weird emotional/nostalgic aura around it, it's hard to describe but this song is great

I try to not turn Super at all during the stage itself because the Invincibility theme gets really repetitive really quick. I only do it at the boss fights, that's where things get boring for me What really stinks is that if I try to fly, I go Super, and ruins the music.

The song in origins completley changes the tone of the level. This was always my favourite part of Sonic 3 and this song is a big part of it. Ah well, atleast I can mod in the original music.
@@xtrwombat4876 You can emulate Sonic 3 on damn near any computer/cheap emulation handheld/hacked console with 100% accuracy. Like, you find an old piece of crap computer with Windows XP, a tiny hard drive, and 512MB of RAM in a dumpster and it can run Sonic 3. Shit, buying a Genesis on eBay and a copy of Sonic 3 isn’t even that expensive.
Ah the overwhelming feeling of nostalgia, how I welcome it. Every track was a banger. It's amazing how these great tracks were created back in the day when technology wasn't as advanced as today. I had a great childhood, and I'll always have a blast when I play these games again.

Every year I listen to it on my birthdays ... and I remember how happy I was in my childhood, it's like going back in time for a few minutes and feeling that the world was too warm.
Fun fact: Did you know Brad Buxer's team also worked on their own compositions for Angel Island, Hydrocity and Marble Garden? That means we almost lived in the timeline where they composed for every zone. Just wanted to put that out there.
@@cattysplat I wouldn't count on it. The OST we have was handpicked from the two sets of songs that each team made, and it was decided that Sonic Team's versions fit the first three zones better. We only know about the missing songs because Cirocco Jones' old website Music Powers had a section for "Levels 2 & 3", meaning he worked on Hydrocity and Marble Garden. It's likely those songs will never reach the public though.
Ahaha, some of my first memories ever are from me playing Sonic 1 and 2, so my life (at least what I can remember from it) did start around that time xD

I prefer this a lot over the ACT 2 version. It's a lot more calm and nostalgic, it gives off a weird vibe, like I'm about to cry when I pay too much attention to it or listen to it for a longer amount of time. It's so sentimental, yet encouraging you to stay determined, so calm, yet expressive.
Although I am happy that they are going to use the music of the prototype, I will not deny that losing Hard times is a hard blow :(. At the very least I wish the remix would recover part of that essence or melody, so that it is not lost completely.
Honestly this is the only one i liked more than the beta ones Mj music is great but it wasn't that great on the game in comparision to the original ones But hard times? That's a *hard* punch in the ass that they are gonna change it
Today it was announced by an inside source for the Sonic Origin devs that the OST has been compromised with a new soundtrack based on the prototype, meaning that even beloved Ice Cap Zone theme has become obsolete... "We can't use all of the original sounds [from S3&K]. Jun Senoue has been working really hard to adapt the original music that was composed in 1993 for Origins" Rip OG Sonic 3 and Knux music 1994-2022
I didn't even know... This is one of those rare moments where I'm not even sad, just disappointed. I know we're not going to get another collection like this for a long time.
@Axeldorf I'm pretty sure SEGA just needs to pay up to use the tracks, but they refuse to do so, so SEGA let their fans down AGAIN. How they gonna call this Sonic Origins, and remove the ORIGINAL experience from the game? SEGA knows their upsetting fans, but I guess they don't care enough to make things right for their fans
@@awesomeboss2020 Well, to be fair I don't think SEGA owns ANY of the classic sonic music except for CD and a majority of the sonic 3 soundtrack. They still gotta pay royalties for Sonic 1 and 2, so in reality the royalties were probably higher than it would be to finish their old prototype songs. Not like those are bad either, Launch Base Prototype slaps.
As I can remember guys, YES! Michael Jackson "composed" Ice Cap Zone, but the song was inspired from the song Hard Times, Ice Cap Zone is a remix of Hard Times, so we can say that Michael Jackson was the main arranger of this song :) (AS I REMEMBER)

MJ and Brad did such an excellent work together (Beautiful Girl, Im The Loser, Stranger In Moscow, Days in Gloucestershire, and many unheard ones), i believe they also did MJ's "Space Dance" from Space Channel 5, or at least Brad using MJ ad-libs... +TheLNashProject Ha, the one you have to push up and down to make move? I had to call Sega's tip hotlline and the guy told me they had more calls about that than anything else in the entire time he had worked there.
+TheLNashProject Me too! I felt so dumb when I finally figured out how to do it. Just jump into it and hold down when you land on it, then repeating till you sink low enough, then jump off on the lower level!

The Music in the Original Sonic games is musically more talented then virtually 98% of anything that's been on the actual pop music top 40 in like 15-20 years.
There was a part where Sonic leaped and scraped the side of the mountain and a crescendo played and my heart jumped thinking it was the start of this song and that we were going to hear a remix of it play next. Definitely a missed opportunity...

Goodbye Hard Times, it's likely that these Ice Cap Zone tracks along with some other S3&K tracks are gonna be replaced with the original music adapted by Jun Senoue in Sonic Origins.
While I do agree, I'm sure you're aware of the legal struggle this song (as well as others) faces preventing its use. Or I dunno! Maybe they totally could have used it and just missed tf out! Fairly certain the former is the main reason for its lack of appearance, though.
Ice Cap is the reason I love Ice levels in videogames so much. The music and the stage itself are so wonderfully crafted and I guess as a kid wanting to experience this feeling over and over again made me really appreciate Ice/Snow levels.
Oh god, it took me watching a RU-vid video 15 years later to figure out that Casino Nights Zone barrel. Not even joking. Before that, the only way I was able to pass it was by glitching through it as Super Sonic.
RIP Ice Cap Zone. You've officially been retconned out by (a butchered remix of) your prototype predecessor and will be dearly missed. Hopefully someone mods you back into the PC version one day...

I come back to this song at least once a year to cry at 3 AM. I miss playing my DSI at night and listening to the music. This one was always my favorite but I flew through the levels so fast. So I restarted after beating this zone to listen to it more. I didn’t have a computer to listen to it on YT so I just stayed on this zone..
We need to start a petition & strike back about this before it's too late! I've left a comment here. I intend to contact SEGA in as many ways as I can as well but we need to stand together!
This has always been my favorite Sonic soundtrack from the Genesis days! I couldn't believe when I found out it's also so closest to a real song, probably the closest out of any Sonic 3 song. Of course, several songs in Sonic 1 & 2 were based very closely on actual songs by Dreams Come True.
Ice Cap is my favorite Classic Sonic game level. I wish they put this level in Sonic Generations instead of Sky Sanctuary. Don't get me wrong Sky Sanctuary is a fantastic level. Well that's what mods are for I guess.
That was because SEGA don't own the rights to the song, something about have multiple composers and shit, one of which may or may not have been MJ, which is why on the PC version of S3&K the music for carnival night, ice cap and launch base were changed.
Sky Sanctuary is my second favorite level in Generations, though I don't care for it in S&K.. I kind of agree with you, but then again, I'd love to play a modern remake of EVERY classic Sonic's levels, not only Ice Cap, so yeah.. The snowboarding would be awesome btw
I know this coment will get lost among many others, but, I wanted to express something. Something i just don't know how to explain when I listen to this song. I feel like I start to remember good times I never lived, with people I never met... and I just truly wanted these times to be real. My youth is ending quickly, soon I will have to start doing more stuff, and having more responsabilities, and it's just terrible the fact that I will never meet people I truly love. I just wanted to feel... free. Free with people I can share moments with, free with people I can trust in, free with people that can make me feel alive again, free with people that would reduce all the bad feeling I have, just like I would do my best to reduce theirs... But these times are never coming, and maybe I'm just dreaming too much. In the end, i'm just another insignificant being in this giant piece of crap we call world.
