If you really think about it the Dreamcast did 8 years worth in that 2 years it was out. If i would choose every favorite PS1 game there would be 300 games i wouls love to own. On the Dreamcast it's easily over 200 games. On the PS2 100-150 games and Xbox maybe 50 games. On top of the incredible DC game library DC is the only console of that generation that had it's own unique look in the graphics because it wasn't as sophisticated as the PS2 in the effects but more than made up for it in pushing an incredible amount of polygons with a stable frame rate. And The Dreamcast came much earlier than the PS2 and most DC games look better now than PS2 games because the PS2 graphics are quite soft and blurred. Especially if upscaled to 4K with emulation the difference is huge. DC games upscale beautifully while every PS2 game needs game specific settings or even patches to even come close. And DC was the closest to then current arcade hardware because the games look 95% the same as Sega Naomi arcade games and the DC got tons of Naomi ports and other arcade releases making the DC still the best console ever when it comes to arcade perfect ports and a vast arcade game selection. I agree that i also would have loved for Sega to give the DC a proper lifecycle but honestly it didn't need to. And the DC was and still is an exclusive and incredibly awesome experience to those who have the sense to buy it and collect for it. The Dreamcast dies out only when/if people stop playing the games.
Sonic adventure 1 is better than 2 in my opinion, it just feels like sonic to me. I didn't like what Sonic adventure 2 did, it removed the the ability to travel in between worlds, when you're done with one of the sonic stages it goes to the next character that's what i didn't like tbh..
I really like this game. It was blown away by the graphics at the time! I was never so impressed by graphics again since then, or maybe by Shenmue. I like the adventure setup, gameplay and music of this game too. The second Sonic Adventure was a bitter disappointment to me.
Casper Egas I like the Sonic and Shadow levels, I still like the Knuckles and Rouge levels but they're WAY too long to the point that it's just a chore to get through them, and if Tails and Eggman's levels would have better controls, maybe I"d enjoy them. Yeah, SA2 isn't the best of the Adventure era, but it's okay.
+Banjo- Kazooie Haha, glad you stuck around :D I have a hard time watching some of these older videos. The audio quality is lacking, they move too slow, and the editing seems lazy. Hope you stick around for the next 100 reviews!
I love hub worlds and I always found Big's stages very relaxing. SA1 is definitely one of my favorite games ever made. I like it much better than the second.
I feel the same way. Today there's always a rush, so little time, so many games, i have like 60 GD-ROM games and around 300 games on my Steam and i am yet to complete most of them, and more on Gamecube/Wii, and more classics for all kinds of systems. But back then, coming back to Sonic Adventure every evening to chill and maybe play an action stage to nudge a little bit closer to 100% was such an experience, perfect balance of relaxing and engaging. Big's sections are clearly not the best fishing game, but they offer a nice contrast for when you just want to relax, and you have the adventure stages, the Chao gardens too. You know many people need that kind of experience, else Euro Truck Simulator wouldn't be selling like hot cakes. What do people do in MMOs most of the time? Sit and talk, or explore, not outright fight towards a goal. That you can't even get into Chao Garden without playing an action stage in SA2 was such an omission. It's a good game, i like them both, but SA1 just means a lot more to me, i feel it's an overall more complete experience, and it wouldn't feel as complete without the hubworld to tie it all together.
I just discovered this channel today and there is a LOT of content for me to peruse! I just bought the Dreamcast Akura HDMI box, and I've been replaying Sonic Adventure and other DC games. Your video quality is superb, you are obviously using a nice VGA box or XRBG solution, because RCA cables just ruin the graphics on a flat screen. Thanks for your thought-out and well explained opinions in this positives review.
Honestly? I've always felt like I was the only person who loves SA1 better than SA2, in most regards. While in hindsight I don't quite find it a masterpiece like you do, I still enjoy the game quite a bit, I love Sonic Adventure, and it brings fond memories! Easily one of the best Dreamcast games, and one of the best, if not THE best, Sonic platformers. :)
Man this video is old haha :D I think it's been a couple years since I've played through SA1. I'd like to review it with a more analytical eye and see if I still find it to be a masterpiece. I doubt I will, but I still firmly believe SA1 is vastly superior to SA2 haha.
Just got the CD soundtrack for this game early in the morning today at 10:52a.m. and it's the Sonic Adventure Digi-log Conversation Original Soundrack CD and I'm listening to it while watching this! 4:26p.m. 10/17/2022
neoknux009 I think Sonic Adventure is every bit as polarizing today, as it was back in 1999, haha. I remember reading the magazine reviews and the complaints about glitches, the camera, and the voice acting. A few days after 9/9/99 I finally got Sonic Adventure and was blown away. I don't think that feeling has ever left for me :)
I like the Classic Sonic series better. The later Sonic games from the Dreamcast/Modern, Sonic '06 and Sonic Boom eras became extremely gimmicky because of the Chao-raising, the character redesigns and vice versa. The only things that made the Dreamcast/Modern, Sonic '06 and Sonic Boom eras shine were the soundtracks.
One of my favorite Sonic games. It's too bad that two of my DreaMcasts had a disc read error issue. Now I am waiting for someone to make an emulator that can boot DC game discs. The music in this game is awesome.
You can get them repaired or if you can source parts you can change the lens or the entire gd Rom drive completely. There is also gd emu which is placed in the gd Rom drive I believe it has pre loaded games but I don't think it will boot discs
I'd say Orbot and Cubot are the Jaja Binx (or however it's spelt) of Sonic. Big's alright as a character, it's just his campaign's out of place and his playstyle is annoyingly not well explained .
+sonysfan19992 You are not alone with those feelings. Check out Exo Paradigm Gamer's review if you haven't already: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZPD7txITpxc.html
Xcalibur64 me too, but i have to admit that the first game has more platformer gameplay and i like it more than SA2 Tails and Eggman gameplay. But everything else, SA2 is better for me (i know that camera isn't perfect but this is a little detail and not a big deal though).
