Just Sonic and Robotnik. Robotnik and Sonic. And almost Vector the Crocodile. Seriously, he was going to be in the sound test of Sonic 1. Vector predates Tails.
@@Icem4n84 tbf though, Eggman is the correct name, we just got it changed over here in Europe and America to Robotnik :) though he'll always be Robotnik to me in my heart since thats what I grew up with xD
While this may seem slower and shorter, when compared to it's sequels, I still love this game. I return to it often because it's short, sweet, and to the point. A solid platformer... but the emeralds aren't worth it. This is coming from a guy who got the emeralds so many times. If you haven't played it, give it a shot.
@@dracomeme7945 Notice how this game only has six Chaos Emeralds, while every other game has seven? That's why there's no Super Sonic, nobody found the last one!
@@kurtisharen very true guess this is just the first sighting of them in the sonic franchise well at least from sonic and robotnics procpective, guess they were to lazy to find the last one
Man, it's really weird to think that you've never even looked at Sonic 1 before! I feel like it's just expected that you'd have reviewed it at some point in the first 120.
Well he does mention the fact he never played it at all. And for good reason,he grew up with Sonic 2 and 3. I can tell that he was hesitant to even talk about it because there's no way to make an objective review of Sonic 1 after experiencing everything that came after. After all, most of the problems with Sonic 1 are fixed in the games after it.
Dude, loved this channel. So many relatable content, i'm super fan of these games from my childhood, I'd literally give everything just to play them again for the first time...
I haven't played the original in... I dunno, probably at least 10 years, probably longer, but I remember having SO MUCH trouble with the chaos emerald stages. I've finished the game at least three times and I don't think I've ever even gotten 5 of them, let alone all 6. I was a little surprised to hear you call them easy, but maybe I just really, really sucked at it when I was younger.
Those were my thoughts exactly! I think my record I've gotten before is maybe 3 emeralds? I always would spend like 10 min on one chaos emerald stage only to not get it. I will admit that I never played a Sonic game longer than 5 min until Sonic Heros though. I personally hated that game but it technically was my first major introduction to Sonic other than Sonic 2 when I was very little but I don't remember playing it really. Just screenshots of it in my memory.
So Jirard Complete Sonic 1 Sonic 2 Sonic 3 & Knuckles Sonic Adventure Sonic Adventure 2 Sonic Heroes Sonic 2006 Sonic And The Secret Ring Sonic Unleashed Sonic Mania (Plus Completed In A DLC Episode) Sonic Forces So Jirard Still Need To Complete Sonic CD Knuckles' Chaotix Sonic Advance Sonic Advance 2 Sonic Advance 3 Shadow The Hedgehog Sonic Rush Sonic Rush Adventure Sonic Rivals Sonic Rivals 2 Sonic And The Black Knight Sonic 4 Sonic Colors Sonic Generations Sonic Lost World To Complete Every Main Canon Sonic Game
sonic boom it's not a main game it's more like a spin-off franchise to the main sonic franchise (just like mega man legends to the original mega man franchise) sonic spinball is a spin-off so it's not canon
nope jirard didn't complete shadow the hedgehog for the show but he did complete sonic adventure 1 & 2 and sonic 06 back in the old videos, he gonna need to complete them again for new game plus
DeltaPrime350 SotN he’ll re-complete since it was one of his earlier episodes. Never played any of the Yakuza games, so I’d be into seeing him tackle one
It's a nice feeling to get a quick and easy game completed. This is a game that I have personally completed and retired and its still a good game to me. I don't know where I would rank it when it comes to other sonic games since I haven't played enough of them but from the time I have played this game I definitely got my enjoyment out of it. I do have a lot of fondness when it comes to getting the chaos emeralds in this game. I always loved that bonus world theme.
Stop Hating On Aqua look I’m not saying that sonic 2 is bad, I’m just saying I enjoyed the other sonic games over sonic 2. Sonic 2 is great at the beginning but kinda gets meh at the end of the game.
This is the first video game I ever "played". I put played in quotations because my earliest memory is in the hospital, after my mother was killed in a car accident, with my older sister (who was seriously injured in said accident) when I was 2 years old. My dad bought my sister a Sega to help her stay positive while she went through some painful physical therapy. She would hand me the player two controller while she actually played the game, and I would happily press buttons and cheer her on. There is a lot of baggage attached to this game for me, obviously, so I love it unconditionally. Thank you for not just trashing it.
I've been going back to Sonic 1 more and more, mainly because I've played the other 2D ones to death. I do like the platforming, music, and slight difficulty... and the fact that I got a copy of it for the original Genisis is pretty neat. Also, if you want, review Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory.
What do you mean wrong channel? I thought that because of Indiland the fans voted for him to complete Hallow Knight. So wouldn't that be on his channel where he completes games? Is he not doing it anymore? If so I will be very disappointed because I have spent the last 3 weeks trying to complete that game before he releases the video.
I read in a UK Nintendo magazine in the 2002-3 can't remember the specific issue but when yuji naka left sega of Japan to go to the USA to work on sonic 2 he was getting dragonball tapes sent over and watching them while developing the game
@@the-NightStar super Saiyan's conception was before Sonic the hedgehog 2 game and there was some "inspiration" drawn from it. Look up the dates of dragon Ball manga and release date of the game. If it had come out before Sonic 1, the first game might've had super sonic
I do appreciate when you cover old games... makes me remove my nostalgia glasses and see that... for the time as a kid I enjoyed them... but now... not so much
I took a comprehensive look at a whole bunch of the ports if you're ever curious. I recommend trying out the Sonic Jam and mobile ports because they bring about some really interesting changes. I've also started playing the Sega Ages version on Switch and the inclusion of the Mega Play version makes that a very different experience too.
This is exactly how I feel about sonic 2 and 3, since I didn't play them as a kid. His positive feelings towards 2nd and 3rd game is definitely due to nostalgia. Like DKC was/is for me.
I never finished the original Sonic until a few months ago. I was born in ‘94 and raised on the PS1 and PS2. Thank you, Steam, for letting me get around to actually beating this.
I was a Sega kid. I got a Genesis when I was 4, and it came packed with Sonic the Hedgehog. I loved Sonic. Watched the cartoon, read the comics, had some toys. My childhood was great.
Wow! A Sonic 1 review that doesn't spend the entire intro talking about how Sonic went downhill and insulting Sega and that doesn't have a single cheap Sonic 06 joke in it? That reviews the game fairly and admits that most of the game's problems were inmediately fixed as the series went on? I'm sold! Also, you nailed the Finebros bit, it's extremely acurrate.
I'd like to say the pay-off of collecting the Chaos Emeralds is seeing what they're capable of. Before the ending, they're only shiny gems gathered for the sake of completion, but the good ending presents their power to restore beauty to nature and that was just scratching the surface.
i blame a day off and a bottle of rum for getting here so early. cheers mate! still remember screaming like a madman in my house when i defeated robotnik in space in sonic 3
Sweet Fine Bros parody. Fairly accurate, though sometimes the kids do have interesting takes. Incidentally, if November ends up being a lighter game month so that you have time to complete Smash, I’m all for that...though completing Smash is clearly going to be one hell of a challenge based off of all that was announced in the last Nintendo Direct! Good luck to ya.
Imagine being used to the spin-dash and Super sonic from like every sonic game ever and then playing the very first game for the first time.... gosh Jirard, I kinda feel sorry for you. XD Also the "react to" sketch was hillarious XD
Man, nostalgia hits me real hard here. I loved this game so many years back, and I still do to this day, though I prefer 2 overall. And yeah, there are some faults to it, but I was willing to forgive its shortcomings over the years.
def recommend to play the ports as the years go by, they get better and better + as you get better at the game u enjoy it more and more. its slowly made up to be my top 5 sonic games just cuz its so quick to complete and so great to learn in a pass time :D
I don't know if you meant this, but when you're talking about "an empire of games have been built [on Sonic]," the thing they're saying in the Boom gameplay below could easily describe said empire.
The sonic franchise is one of those franchises that, no matter how bad a few games get, I still find myself coming back to. Just like with Final Fantasy.
Hey Gerard and team, I love your videos! Thanks for doing so many classics! I noticed you havent done the MGS series, I would love to see you finish MGS 1-4! cheers! keep up the good work!
Great video as usual! I just can't play the original Sonic since it has no spin dash, but super glad you completed it. BTW, if anyone wants to hear how the SEGA vs Nintendo console war of the 90's came to be, I HIGHLY recommend reading "Console Wars." It's really good and explains a very important part of video game history.
