⚠️Most of the visual elements are placeholders My New Discord: / discord ♥️Thanks to the kind members of my discord for helping me with some of the backgrounds
Fun fact: Sonic CD was originally planned to be a Sega CD port of Sonic the Hedgehog until it became it's own project, due to this some levels have similarities with one another. Green Hill Zone = Palmtree Panic. Marble Zone = Dubious Depths. Spring Yard Zone = Collision Chaos. Labyrinth Zone = Tidal Tempest. Starlight Zone = Stardust Speedway. Scrap Brain Zone = Metallic Madness. It is said that Dubious Depths was scrapped because it's slow-paced similar to Marble Zone.
With how far R2 made it into development (Getting into the ending movie, lots of art and music, having one of the special stages based off it) I prefer to think that it was cute due to memory concerns. Besides, Labyrinth was slow too, and they still made Tidal Tempest, with all that work done, why wouldn't they just rework R2's level design to be more fast paced?
It's possible but without the texture files and such, it's really hard to restore. Not saying it's impossible, but hard since people would need the files to recreate it.
@Crvpt We hardly have a skeleton to even go on. We can surmise that the stage will have a forest background for its upper portion. We know it will have an underground similar to Marble Garden. We know the boss for the stage will be Eggman on a motorbike gizmo, probably similar in function to the drill car in Sonic 2. We know their will be baddies that will snatch at Sonic from the ground. This is enough to get a general picture of the stage, but their are still details missing. We can only go off the brief clip of the ending that showed it off to us. I think it's more than possible to recreate the stage, but it would take some work.
with enough modding to the 2011 version, or, a rebuilt version in the most hard scenario, it will becoma a reality, even with DD and FF thanks to time, programing somenthing like a function to time travel as intented for the unused final boss will not be that hard as it could be 12 years ago
You know these mockups kinda match how I feel the stage may have looked like. I also feel like it might have had above and below ground sections. As for the sketches of the rainbow waterfalls, I wonder if that was planned for the good future? I think we're getting closer to something here, but I admire the effort that was put into this playlist, this almost feels like it could be the real DDZ.
@@BlueFrenzyEspecially since most of the zones in CD are similar in nature to Sonic 1’s zones. The only one that isn’t referenced in any way is Marble Zone. It’s accurate.
@@TheOfficial_YoItSJaKe4091 not to mention it's R2, meaning it was supposed to come between PPZ and CCZ, which matches the order of zones in Sonic 1 (Green Hill, Marble, Spring Yard)
Actually all of these tracks are official. The present version is the DA Garden theme in the final game but was actually supposed to be the present version of dubious depths. As for the others they were apparently found in various places and are also official.
@@ender64yeahthatguy all of these tracks are not official. The only official track is of course the present theme, which is labeled as "D.A Garden/Little Planet" in the 2011 remaster of Sonic CD. The rest of the songs heard in this compilation borrow elements from both "Sonic Stream" and "Techno power mix," which derive from the Sonic the Hedgehog Remix Album.
@@skudoblade They're somewhat official in a sense (sonic stream and techno power mix) because they're remixes of the Bad future and Good futures of R2 and were composed by Masafumi these fan recreations just take elements from them
The theory is that it's supposed to be a Marble Zone counterpart (just like how PP, CC, TT, SS and MM are to other Sonic 1 zones), but it looks more like Jungle Zone from the Master System game.
Yeah it does look like jungle zone from the master system. Funny enough that level had vertical movement very similar to how some of CD’s levels are laid out.
No doubt, I really like that it sure does indeed, the dark laugh, with the known type of style of Bad futures to be present give it so much authentic sound and vibes!
With all the wonderful ideas coming out from the Community, I won't be surprised if there was enough content (Relic Ruins, Dubious Depths, Desert Dazzle, etc) to create a sorta spiritual successor to Sonic CD. I would be all for that. I strongly feel this "official" vs "non-official" discussion misses the mark on the point that really creative ideas are being made and I'm 1000000% for it. The point is, it's cool! Who cares what's official? Triple Trouble 16 bit wasn't official and yet it's one of my new favorite games.
I couldn't agree more, which is why I love sonic DVD so much. it literally does what you said it did. despite being a mania hack, it is still in the spiritual concept of sonic cd. here is a example ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-0NpExY6U_MI.html
@@hiddenboy007 doesn’t mean they have to be in a so called successor to cd, the names could just be references, like ridicule route ( another name for this stage) could be something completly different too
@@Kookie_13_ I didn't say they should be in a successor to cd, I just said that relic ruins and dubious depths are just different names to the same zone
Heh, imagine if they made it, like, on the other side of the planet and stuff. Maybe an adventure Amy was having in parallel to Sonic! Imagine she managed to break free shortly after getting kidnapped in Collision Chaos!
Awesome, my main nitpick though is that the bad future sounds much like Techno Power Mix, and it shouldn't really, as yes, it has bits of R2's true bad future, but none of the Techno Power Mix zone leitmotifs sound like their in-game version, so it's only fair for R2 to have the same treatment. Regardless, these themes are a bop and overall accurate to what R2 may have been.
Great work on the original mixes! I do feel they fit very well with the original music of the game and as remixes of “Little Planet”. The little zone mock-ups with the unused badniks and Eggman boss in tow are very cool as well. The only gripe I have is that we may already have the good future version of this zone, as the wonderfully generically named “Sonic the Hedgehog - Remix”, an official album by the original Sonic CD music team which has various mixes and original compositions for the game’s soundtrack contains a song entitled “Sonic Stream”. This track shares various similarities with “Little Planet” including the same chord progression and ambient vibe.
Present theme comes from the 'D.A Garden' Theme also known as 'Little Planet' "B" Mix comes from Techno Power from the Sonic the Hedgehog Remix album. "G" Mix comes from Sonic Stream from the Sonic the Hedgehog Remix Album. "P" Mix is entirely fanmade
@Mortimer_RS We already know about the present theme since 2011 but everyone didn't care because of Jalex777 and his fakes, the good and future was ik front of our eyes since 1994 and for the past, we can try figure it out how it would sounded like thanks to the present theme which often take pieces of other timezones music
I've been listening to the Good Future track since discovering your channel! All of them are such good pieces, thanks again for your dedication and sharing!
I always thought Little Planet (D.A. Garden) would be more good-future with the birds and stuff. Now, to spitball ideas. Good Future could definitely use the rainbow waterfalls. The antlions could use a middle-shatter platform for their floors (seen in the credits) and, they could have a slow downward slope to the antlion. By the way, they could be destroyed, perhaps leading to a hidden spot, and just like wacky workbench but much less secretive, one of the spots of that hole could lead to the generator. The level itself could be full of hidden tunnels, and regular tunnels, because of the crumbling land and burrowbots and worm snakes akin to Mystic Cave.
Those present and past backgrounds look so good although the futures need a bit of work done someone should make those into a mod for the complete sonic cd experience while we wait for the prototype to drop
@@temixmixto The thing about it is that SEGA most likely trashed many things related to the level and I don't think they would ask a fan for music tracks. Plus I don't think they would entirely rebuild one level to a game, they would need to add more levels to make it worth doing.
I’m not the best at modding and I have never touched sonic cd modding before, but I’m ok at pixel art, and can do a tiny bit of programming so I’ll give it a shot
We just gonna ignore that 7:38 sounds too much like Wacky Workbench BF? Edit: I also realized that in 8:10 there is a creepy robot voice just like in Wacky Workbench BF
Did you guys base this off from the "sonic the hedgehog remix" that was released years ago? Some of it sounds pretty similar but a bit touched up! Either way keep up the great work!
The interesting thing here is that the ruins are green, but Idk if that is just the artist's interpretation. My interpretation personally is that the ring statue in wacky workbench is from here/a relic from the ruins put there.
This has been in my mind, while there is no way we'll ever find the true us versions most likely cause there were none, that wont stop the community. this zone might have already been made cancelled by the time it came for the us songs to be made, so we'll never see anything official like that, and if there was, i doubt we'll be able to find out what songs belong. if there were any.
4:04 i like the past version of this zone i wonder how it will turn out if this zones wasnt scrapped for the final game and how it will sound in the us soundtrack
It actually got scrapped due to needing 3 extra songs tho (+ the past song but it's on pcm), not because of the level design; the level design thing was just a random excuse they threw out to shut the fans up
The little planet art from origin also confirms Eggman/Robotnik influence on this stage. The art shows X% erosion based on the stage which means for stages like Wacky Workbench, Stardust Speedway and Metallic Madness having 100% erosion as they are ran by Eggman. For stages like Palmtree Panic, a vegetative stage, having 0% influence. This stage has 10% erosion.
My version of CD has Relic Ruins, but i think the setting makes less sense for it to be named Dubious Depths, I just call it Lapis Leaf insetead to fit the themeing of this level. I'm not criticizing. it's just a tiny suggestion.
I love the songs and everything but I’m lost, was this a scrapped level or something? What is R2? If this was scrapped, was Little plant originally meant to be the theme of this place?
R2 (known as Dubious Depths is a scrapped zone from Sonic CD, it was meant to be the second zone of the game, the little planet theme is originally the R2 present theme, it got repurposed after R2 was scrapped
A brief remix of the bad future theme can be heard in the song techno power mix from the Sonic Remix album of 1994 at 3:18, pieces of the good future theme can be heard in the song Sonic Stream from the same album
