I remember that when I was a kid I loaded up my brand new copy of Sonic CD and my brother noticed I got it, and started fighting me for the controller. It resulted in both of us doing a tug of war for the controller. A few buttons got pressed, and we found the sound test menu. We were sooo confused, and somehow we guessed the right combination. To say we were horrified is an understatement. I didn't play it for almost a month, and my brother decided he should ask to play instead of fighting me for it. I still laugh, but also shudder a little over it

The real reason why they put the boss theme because it sounded silly and it was a joke screen. The American version made the screen turn out creepy

That Sonic does not look like an enemy. It most like says 'Have fun for eternity.', but in good meaning.

Excellent research! Majin means "male witch" (魔人) or "demon" (魔神) in Japanese. Nishimura-san's nickname まぢん　Madin (literal spelling), is also read "Ma-jin". Hence the pun on demon/male witch, and the creepyness. Japanese kids would not have been terrified as much, because they knew the guy was an illustrator or one of the people who worked on the game and this was like his personal calling card, plus the music isn't as scary as the Western version. They still would have been creeped out a little - because the font though for 'Fun ∞ Sega Enterprises' (たのしい∞セガ・エンタープライゼス）is creepy for those who know how to read Japanese. Its like ghost handwriting.

Finally I now know what was up with that creepy screen. Honestly I would still find it a creppy even in the japanese version, because of the dark coloring and that disturbing face. It didn't really scare me when I was young and found this, but it did disturb me something fierce.

Dont worry, it doesn't mean fun is infinite. It means "Sega Enterprises"

I knew about this, because 1. People are tweaking about this screen, thinking it's gonna come to their nightmares. And 2. I was all like "I bet one of the staff under the nickname who worked on this game made this artwork, alongside other cool artworks", before this video came out.
