Yeah, man, Sonic Colors was an absolutely amazing game, and I do believe it was one of the first Sonic games that I ever beat (alongside Sonic Advanced 2 and Sonic 1.)

It's better than the Wii version

You should still complete it because getting all the S ranks and Red Rings is a blast.

@@abrahammoratti I've never actually gotten all S ranks in Colors, despite having played it for at least 100 hours (maxed out the playtime on my first file). But I definitely will for the remaster.

@@LeopoldLitchenstein one thing i don't entirely like about Sonic Colors Ultimate is the changed soundtrack, luckily it's possible to switch to the original, it sadly doesn't apply to the opening theme song that plays once you open the game, so you're stuck with the remastered version of the opening (sucks for those who prefer the original version)

I don’t hate colors but in my opinion the 2d overpowers the 3D and the wisps are just boring. I still had fun playing and it definitely had charm.

@@fuppster yeah. For being a game marketed mostly as a 3D game, hardly even 25% of it is 3D, and sidestepping sections don’t count as 3D. At the time the game was good considering the pit that the franchise had dug itself into. There was a bit of tonal whiplash from Black Knight and Unleashed (being the two games released prior to Colours) but unfortunately it’s mere existence spurred the creation of mediocre/bad games like Lost World, Forces and TSR. Made people appreciate the 2000’s stuff more, myself being one of those people I don’t hate it ENTIRELY. I appreciate what it did for the franchise at the time, but despise it for what it’s done for the franchise now. Glitchy and badly designed messes are bad, but they’ll always triumph over mediocrity simply for having the heart and ambition to actually try.

Color's sense of speed is completely crippled by the terrible control and heavy jumping physics and the fact most of the game is 2D plaforming, Forces had the same problem but that problem is actually worse in Colors because that game has more emphasis on precise platforming, which is near impossible with the game's physics. The only times Colors is actually fast is in autopilot 3D sections.

The emphasize was on the maneuver of the wisp , not the speed but fuck me, right PC2000?

He means that the whisps offer ways to open up new paths to get to the end faster overall. While I kinda disagree about how easy he made it sound to control the whisp forms, I agree it was a fun and needed change of pace to the Sonic Games. I LOVED the lazer, drill, and pink spiky whisps.

I don't know what he was thinking but every time the blue wisp is shown, it's in a section where it's very platform heavy. Sure, it may provide shortcuts, but the sheer action of using it stops you in your place to do a buildup animation.

Its pretty cool that they actually did that i never noticed it until i watched this video.

don't know why I'm replying to something that was commented over 7 months ago, but whatever. I think the '3D sonic game' term is put on sonic games with 3D modeling... hence the term

There's a lot of 2D section, but the gameplay still the same from a perspective to another, the game switching perspective like switching speed/reflexes section ( 3D ) and more slowly/platform section ( 2D ), its mecanic bring in Unleashed to avoid repetivness, but core gameplay is the same. Just think about platforming with 3D part of Unleashed/Colours/Gen, sonic to fast, so the game must switching perspective

I consider lost world to be that return to 3d.

I agree while I think the reason you stated make the game a bad game I respect the fact that people like the game

Being this diverse in taste is a good thing. As long as nobody acts like an ass about it, like most of the Sonic community. Heck I have been playing Sonic since his debut on the Sega Genesis. I own every game of the series so far and been outspoken about the issues I had with each of them on the Sega offical channels. But here I am standing on neither the 2D or 3D side of the line. I love both. I have issues with both and I can discuss them with whoever likes without having to throw insults and hissie fits followed by childish tantrums. That is why I love the Completionist Community so much. Diversity, yet we are not pulling death threats at each other or impose out of control rage in it. I hope people will keep in mind that diversity is the reason why we have so many great video games to enjoy. If everyone would like the same, games all would probably be just constant copies of one another with no real heart put into it. So keep on stating your oppinions, people. They DO matter! :3 ~Have A Nice Day~

Blight VonDrake Don't listen to the people claiming that Unleashed, SA2, and Heroes were better. Unleashed may have had better stages as Sonic than this game it doesn't make it good since 75% of Unleashed is you playing as the werehog. SA2 had a similar deal with the treasure hunting stages and the mech shooting stages. Heroes of course has slippery physics and is basically you replaying the game 4 times combined with mediocre level design and combat. Colors however is a straight forward Sonic game. Sure the wisps are gimmicks but they are actually executed well in this game.

I prefer the werehog over a hame with cringeworthy dialog and awful voice acting, 75% is boring blocky 2D sections and the other 3D sections, most of them are hold-x-to-win. Unleashed has awesome level design, Fantastic OST, gorgeous graphics, and yeah, Werehog sounds cringy but it plays really well and it can be real fun. And most importantly, it has really high replay value, unlike Colors that i have 0 reasons to come back

Me neither. And we've seen time and time again why 3d Sonic would use padding. Sonic levels at higher speeds demands a lot of resources and Sonic only games as of late end up being short as hell too.

It's because many of those "serious" stories tend to go overboard thus creating many plot holes causing the plot to fall apart. Adventure 1 and 2 had a lot of moments that didn't add up or just felt like filler to the plot to make it seem longer. Unleashed added the Werehog to the plot just for the sake of adding Beat 'em up gameplay to the game when in reality, it could've easily been replaced by Knuckles. The story book games...Jesus, nothing in those games made much sense since Sonic didn't belong in either of those settings AT ALL. Helped improve Jason's work on Sonic though, but had far too many "super serious" moments that ruined it all (Knuckles attempting to kill himself over losing to Sonic).

@@mikeanthony3300 Mike Anthony Honestly. The stories took themselves as serious as the classics. Let's not forget that the whole point of that third game was to stop the Death Egg twice. Saving Knuckles' island and making sure Eggman couldn't use all the power of the Master Emerald for himself. If that story didn't have high stakes/wasn't serious then idk what is. Mania has a pretty serious story too considering the dangers of the Phantom Ruby and how it affected the HBH. The Werehog was literally integral to Unleashed. It wasn't "just thrown in". Sonic's transformation was established early and was given an explaination as to why it happens. The whole point of the story book series is the fact that Sonic's in a strange world. His interactions with new elements and fully showing us his character are big highlights of those games for me because we've not seen Sonic's character as well written as that for some time. It's fine not to like it, but let's not act like the stories were some light hearted frolic in the Meadows lol

I don't remember ol Dr. Robotnik taking out a gun and holding Amy hostage or Boobs the Bat making sexual jabs in the Classic games. All of that "seriousness" in the Classic games were extremely chill and not at all obvious. You'd have to dig DEEP into the lore of what was going on to think something like Mania was "serious". At the end of the day, it's just a joyful adventure of traveling between memory lane and brand new adventures. Black Knight (strange world or not) is still a Sonic game that had Knuckles...fucking Knuckles trying to off himself over losing to Sonic. I don't care if Sonic was kicking it with Saint Nick, it's still a Sonic game. 06 with the half baked idea to just throw everything we knew about Sonic out the window and add in serious retcons that utterly destroyed various fan favorite characters. Remember when Blaze was cool and could handle herself? NO! How about having her travel along with some idiot who is even more gullible than Knuckles. My point on Unleashed still stands. It makes little to no sense why Sonic would turn into a Werehog of all things. It's clearly filler to add in a gameplay style that doesn't belong while at the same time slapping Sonic's ugly mug on it. The story would of been just fine having Knuckles or some other brawler type character tagging along side Sonic and Chip.

@@cpgrad07 I'm not a huge fan of Mania. It's a decent game, ranks just below my top 3. I do acknowledge its success and importance to the franchise. Now I want Sega to make a 3D game that has the same level of passion in it that Mania does.

I hope they keep the boost, a lot of people have become critical of it because Forces (even if that game had more of a design problem than anything) but i still find it to be the definitive Sonic gameplay.

@@matti.8465 Agreed. Forces is the worst execution of the Boost gameplay. It truly is a "Boost-to-Win" game. The other 3 games I mentioned have much more intricate level designs, and Generations especially has the most alternative pathways. The Boost gameplay is the best type of Sonic gameplay that strongly focuses on the speed. I certainly wouldn't mind a modern Adventure-style game, but I strongly disagree with the people who say the Boost gameplay should be removed completely from future games.

@@Time_Fire199 I think Forces did a lot of things right. For one, the different playstyles are implemented perfectly, none of the three are extremely different from Sonic's (They weren't perfectly executed, but were good concepts) Infinite is great and much better than Mephiles. Not to mention that Eggman FINALLY remained the main villain without being overtaken. And the radio thing was a great way to make characters participate, overall i think it's all level design problems, like, Classic Sonic was bad on that game but only because it wasn't too well done.

No Colors deserves to be hated it's the game that resulted in the worst decade of Sonic's career happening. It deserves every bit as much hate as Sonic 06. At least Sonic recovered from 06 almost immediately thanks to Rivals & Rush Adventure. Colors though there was no recovery. The game started the trend of crap writing & lame stories from Pontac & Graff. It's undeserved praise resulted in us getting stuck with the worst English VA for Sonic for far longer than should have happened as well. I only remember people considering the series a joke after Sonic Colors came out.

There were plenty of good 2D games released after Sonic Adventure & Mega Collection was a thing for Classic Fans. As for Adventure birthing all the problems Sonic faces these days, there's only 1 way that could be true. Sonic Adventure set the bar too high for the modern games to hope to meet the standards of. Sonic Adventure abandoned a lot of the groundwork established by the Classic games. Sure, it's the closest to playing anything like the genesis games, but the gap for it to be close enough is still very far. Not only did it fail to sell the dreamcast, but any sequel or game that was released after adventure did not retain most of what was introduced in the game. The level design is so spacious and sparse, but you never have much to do. Sonic Adventure was always a marketing guinea pig, and it really shows. Also, those games came out years after Sonic Adventure alienated their fans, why else was it not a commercial success? SEGA clearly ported those games to reel in fans who lost interest in Sonic after SA1 was released. No offense, but how does a wannabe Mario clone, Amy, who has no interesting combat mechanics and moves at the pace of a sloth with 3 levels, a humdrum shooter where there's no threat, and 99% of the bosses can be defeated by tapping one button, an abysmal fishing simulator, which has nothing to do with platforming, a collectathon where the incentive is to enjoy hunting for jewels in a sandbox, but it's ruined by having a ball of refulgent light tell you its exact location, a character who can fly effortlessly over everything because the level design was not changed to cater to this specific style of play, and a laughly serious plot with insipid, bland writing consitute as a framework for 3D Sonic games? If anything, SA2 inspired most 3D games with its linear approach, fewer gameplay styles, more dramatic plots (for most games), lesser mini-games, and more of a focus in polishing each gameplay style. Sonic '06 is the only game that pays tribute to adventure. I didn't bother with providing a thorough explanation entailing my reasonings because I'm not interested in delving into a discussion with you, since neither of us will agree on anything, but here you go.

I think the scripting at the time of when Lost World was being developed was VERY hard, thus it would make sense.
