English: Sage is intentionally vague because “I will not share information with the enemy.” Japanese: Sage constantly refers to “The Doctor” from the start. Sonic: Who could this “Doctor” be? *Trying to fit the square peg into the circle hole.*
Knuckles’s arc is very interesting. I feel like they wrote it in a way where he will take time away from the island to not only see his friends more, but to explore more of the echidna culture. That would be awesome!
When I played this in Japanese, I was kinda surprised by how different the script was. Even though I don't know much Japanese, the words I do know were able to clue me in. Also, no Engrish aside from borrowed words. Unusual.
The "no engrish" in this game was because the script wasn't first written in Japanese like most times and so, Sonic's characterization lacked those iconic's catch-phrases he always say in JP.
@@DaHeis They still coulda added them in wen they wer localizing the script in Japanese. They did it with Sonic colors and Sonic generations, they could’ve done it here too, but they didn’t. Which makes this entire scenario kinda strange since Sonic using engrish is a big part of his character and who he is, and usually they get all the characters spot on in Japan, so it’s weird they didn’t add the engrish in
I’d been waiting for this! Once I heard of the Japanese specific script, and the issues those players were having with it, I was very curious to see how it had changed. While I can’t comment on how naturally it’s written and acted, it’s clear they tried to brute-force some story and character elements against what was already animated, resulting in some very awkward scenes (look at the Sonic freeing Amy cutscene for example). Really interesting.
No "Cream and Sticks" are mentioned in the Japanese version to this game. It's not necessary to mention Sticks if she was part of the Boom universe. A big thanks for translating the Japanese dialogue to this game, Windii! I am truly appreciate your hard work on your translation. It's good to have you back again with your different channel!
@@gravityfallscanada Yeah, except it has been confirmed multiple times that the japanese script is the rewrite, it does not match up with the animations on a fundamental level and it has several moments of inconsistency and awkward language that just didn't exist in the english script.
At 1:27:50 the end's scream is goddamn horrifying, and also I like how instead of using the power of friendship they just became corrupted again by taking the cyber corruption from sonic back on to themselves which is what I originally thought was happening in the english dub & I thought it made more sense so yeah.
45:49 I really want to know why the dialogue was completely changed for this part. Don't get me wrong, I like that Sonic remembers the events of Adventure, but its a little weird that this is about Knuckles wanting to know more about the Master Emerald and not about dealing with his own issues.
Yea. It's a bit funny when in English it's "Go see the world" and in Japanese it's "You're not going anywhere". or at least that's what I got from that scene.
imo i bet it's to elaborate more on the master emerald to people in Japan who are unfamiliar with Sonic. which makes sense, but yeah it doesnt fit the animation and ruins a cool character moment
Because Knuckle has left Angel Island & the Master Emerald unguarded for multiple games since Sonic Heroes, without explanation. He shouldn't be having these issues at this point.
Thanks for all your hard work translating, its much appreciated. I think the weirdest thing for me in this localization is sonic is missing his trademark english phrases, its strange not to hear them. Even the jp trailer for sonic prime has them but not the mainline game?
Besides some animations not matching up and incredibly weird phrasing on some lines, this was a pretty enjoyable experience. Which script is better really depends on the part of it and on personal preference. Sage in particular loses a lot of character in the first half of the game and she says "doctor" way too often, but the moment on Chaos Island where the Koco was rewritten to undeservably blames itself for the end of everything because it didn't have the best aim at all times was a particularly hard critical hit to the feels. And argubly, the scene of Sage having flashbacks while crying makes a lot more sense here than in english, even tho the jp-script sorta cheats here because it accomplishes it by prior rewrites that replace other characterization. However, I also gotta note some few objective writingmistakes in this script, that...er, I wonder what happened here. Was Kishimoto just not proofreading what he was doing, or was there just a lack of communication to the other people working on the game, especially the other person working on the localization? 8:50 Sonic says "I'm pretty sure there are Chaos Emeralds on the island", which implies he has not seen any yet and is only going off of the signals Tails was tracking. Issue: This cutscene is triggered after the player starts to collect emeralds. Oops. 10:00 Sonic tries to introduce himself, identical to the original english. Issue: A rewrite in a story scene already makes clear she knows who he is, these two scenes should not coexist in the way they do. 14:22 Amy calls the wrong Koco "sensei". 29:23 Not an actual plothole/writing mistake, but just something rather bizarre. The way this entire thing is phrased does not exactly sound like Kishimoto is taking the short animation that serves as a prologue to the english script into account here, even tho I am fairly certain that has a japanese dub like everything else. It sounds like Knuckles was investigating the starfall islands when he accidentially activated Cyber Space. 51:47 Excuse me, but what is this scene? Tails is worried for Sonic for like 3 seconds until he sees that he'll live and then he proceeds to only talk about his own state? Am I misunderstanding something here? As I see it, the reaction of western Tails makes a lot more sense. Edit: I forgot to list one. 15:23 Sonic and Amy can somehow not guess who the "Doctor" is, even tho Sonic was priorly theorizing Eggman to be involved and some objects in the Open Zone directly prove he's here.
8:50 I’m pretty sure he means the rest of the Chaos Emeralds that he hasn’t collected yet. It makes sense in Japanese. 14:22 Amy says “Wait (here)” to sensei and then heads for another Koco. 29:23 I don’t think it sounds like that. Knuckles sure was doing some archeological research on Angel Island in the Prologue animation. 51:47 Sonic asks Tails if he’s okay and he just answers the question. No wonder he talkes about his own state.
@@somu5929 The thing is, wasn't "sensei" one of the Koco that died? Did I completely lose the script? And I still feel like the english script makes more sense for the tails-rescue, because Sonic was also more concerned for Tails there, but Tails pushing in that his state seems less severe than Sonic's makes sense.
@@lpfan4491 I think so, yes. That’s the one called sensei. And Amy said “待ってて” which sounds more like “wait/stay here” than “wait up”. I believe every line makes more sense in English. But Tails’ “いまエネルギーのようなものが…” could be expressing his concerning for Sonic.
Imo, I think the Japanese script is better in some aspects(and worse in others). I like that Amy in the Jap script still seems interested in Sonic, unlike the eng script where she feels very dry and Boom-like in personality. An example is 1:29:08. I also like how in that cutscene, Tails explained how they brought Sonic back, but the English version made it seem like it was "power of friendship" which really made it come across as cheap lousy writing. I also like Amy's goal better in this version, as opposed to the "share the love" weird goal.
Strongly agreed. I cannot comment on the script as a whole as I've only watch bits and pieces of this video, but I definitely don't buy the "JP script sucks" narrative. Flynn is overrated himself and you can see that they fixed some plotholes and awkward moments with this script, such as what you mentioned.
@@MechaKnuckles it fixes a lot of problems with flynns writing but it introduces new ones in their place, unfortunately. i did like most of the changes though. hopefully when the new story comes out it's done a little better. but to be honest, i'm not looking forward to what flynn does with it.
- The Japanese version treated Amy's arc better. Why is spreading her love through others something that will take her apart from Sonic... when she's already been doing that since her re-debut in SA1 in the form of compassion and positivity? Becoming a better person instead of just blindly chase after Sonic has much more weight imo. She went from becoming someone that realized she truly needed to be more independent in SA1... to being so thick-headed to blindly believe rushing to Sonic's side will make him respect her and stop running away from her, when all it does is creating problems with little to no regard of how that puts both herself and others in danger from SA2 and onwards... as if her character arc in SA1 never happened. A bit over-the-top method having to watch lovers dies, but I'm glad it shook Amy enough to remember what she was supposed to do after SA1. - Knuckles' was certainly different. Instead of trying to stray away from his guardian duties and live for a bit, at least for a while, here he reaffirms his duty... and that's not a bad thing. He thinks his heritage is something worth protecting instead of letting it rot away in time. He doesn't want the Echidnas' history to end with him. Now, going back to the English version... It made Knuckles' character come out as dissonant tbh. For years we wanted the writers to remember Knuckles' role as the guardian of the M.E. instead of just leaving it behind unprotected for no reason, and the prologue did an excellent job cementing that. So... why have him being encouraged and accepting on the idea of straying from his duty yet again in the game? Do they WANT him to remain steadfast as a guardian or not? Make up your mind already! - Tails' is similar yet more subtle. Sonic reaffirming Tails that he's better at other things than his hero isn't as direct as "you're learning and you're gonna screw up sometimes, but you're still moving forward", but Tails' conclusion is basically the same: Wanting to be better and do things his own way. - Sage's and Eggman's is certainly handled differently and it can feel like less emotional. Sage is more about wanting to be more efficient for Eggman and win his recognition, while Eggman feels more like... trying his best to put up a wall, even when alone at the near end. He does care about Sage as his best creation... but still shows that worry, believing that she'll be fine when we know she isn't coming back from the fight, as if he's in denial. The main difference between scripts is that the English one is more about acknowledging everyone's past in depth, while the Japanese one is a bit more focused on the current events.
@@1999bazz I definitely prefer Amy and Knuckles' arc in Japanese, but the English one did a bit better with Tails. Can't compete too much against that much, MUCH NEEDED course correction.
@@1999bazz honestly same. I used to think the english one was better but now that I look at it, the Japanese version has much better arcs for the characters.
Interesting. The script changes are not what I expected as a whole, though I do like Amy's handling better in the JP version version. Even if Ian stated in a recent podcast that why Amy isn't acting like herself is because she's the first one you save and the mystery of the island took priority over that. Though I feel like you could shoehorn a flirty remark Amy like the mysterious nature of the island makes it "romantic" for a scroll for two or something like that. Some of the body languages don't add it with the JP dialogue. Oh boy... The Cyber Corruption is... very lackluster in JP. Sonic was shown obvious pain from the inject with each tower he finished unsealing until he could barely stand it (and the voice lines that NEVER played during this part showed it was indeed hurting him) JP Eggman feels more like how Eggman should be instead of the fatherly route that Ian went for him. Not that it's bad, but going by the recent podcast this December it seems like Sage might get a "reformat" so Eggman would still be as evil as before or that Sage didn't "turn good" just has respect for Sonic, but would stop him if he harmed Eggman. And it's confirmed that the Chao EVOLVED FROM the Ancients, if that wasn't clear before. It was greatly implied or hinted to in the Egg Memos, but Ian confirmed it in the Podcast. I would LOVE to know what direction they're going with the Chaos Emeralds and Master Emerald. That said even if the Chaos Emeralds came from the Ancient's home planet, how were they made? It's possible that the Chaos Emeralds could've came from Earth then got flung off world to the Ancient's home planet and used them and when traveling the Master Emerald called them back when close enough. Though that's a theory. The End being split into two halves makes some sense, but it was sealed in the "dark side of the moon"? Considering that Eggman BLEW UP half of the moon from SA2 and Kishimoto or Naka stated the moon "turned over" to hide the blown up part is stupid. Really should've just been the Moon being repaired from the Chaos Control nearby during the Ark. I suppose when the Moon blew up Eggman didn't hit the spot where it was sealed. Lucky. Though the dialogue before for the True Final Boss fight... wow. That felt jilted.
¡Muchas gracias, Windii!
With that being said...yeah...Frontiers might be the first case in the franchise that the English script surpasses the Japanese one😔 Don't get me wrong I don't say Kishimoto completely ruined the original dialogue Ian wrote, but he made plenty of changes that weren't even needed, especially in Knuckles and Sage arc. While watching reactions from the Japanese Sonic community (very small though), I can say so many people notice how unnatural the Japanese dialogue is even though over 90% of them don't know the English one. So I wish modders will release "Sonic Frontiers Retlanslated" mod for Japanese someday🙏 The only line I liked in Japanese script was "Father... Will you praise me?" It reminded me of Shaodow's final monologue in SA2: "Maria... Will this do?" and it kinda made me cry🥲
The JP script by large is more in-line with the characters as Sega of Japan sees them. Amy for example acts more in line with her characterization since Adventure of seeking to be a better warrior/adventurer rather than babble about spreading light and romance or whatever (pretty much writing Amy more like a waifu who's the embodiment of all that's light and sweet crossed with Leia Organa/Sally).
Thank you for your work. There were a few conversations where I didn't quite get the full meaning and this video served as double confirmation. It's unfortunate that the animation this time clashed this much.
The japanese script is kind of messy where you can tell they completely changed the dialogue. For example, why did Sonic just run off like that at 6:09 when he was questioning Cyberspace? LOL It's interesting that the side story dialogues are closely 1 to 1, though. I wonder if they had someone else do the translations or maybe those were originally written in Japanese first?
The game credits three people for the story and script. Maybe Kishimoto translated the cutscene stuff and Ootsu translated the gameplay/side stuff as that seems a lot closer to what's said in English, Tangle reference and all. I guess I'll never know.
@@WindiiGitlord If that's the case, I hope they let Ootsu be the main translation lead considering how butchered the main story is lol It sucks that one region always get screwed over in terms of the writing. I don't get why it's so hard to keep it consistent
@@WindiiGitlord oh wow, so i guess that confirms it tangle IS canon now honestly im very happy, i love tangle and would love to see her in a mainline sonic game
The section with Tails sounds SOOOO much more natural in Japanese. Like wow. It's still inserts callbacks needlessly but the dialogue is miles more memorable than stuff like "I'm wildly inconsistent".
The changes in the Japanese localized script seem alright, but it's pretty obvious when the animation of the scene doesn't fit the complete overhauls to some scenes, like rescuing Amy and bringing the children (students) back to the mother (teacher). EDIT: Oh my gosh the cutscene before The End... absolutely butchered... It looks like the Japanese script generally prioritized exposition to character moments, with the results being a bit messy. The English script isn't perfect but you can tell that a lot of these scenes weren't supposed to have this dialogue.
For me it was fine i like they don't make references to Forces and try to keep it as subtle as they could while in the English script they're throwing at you references from previous games the whole time.
@@DaHeis I don’t like Forces either but just because you don’t like something doesn’t mean it’s not canon and should be ignored when talking about the characters’ journeys
@@The_AGL_Group Uhmm well you might be right it's just that i got a bit overexcited hehe Edit: Personally i don't see what is wrong with ignoring any of the stories from the 2010's i mean they don't contribute in anything to the characters more than pure inconsistency's to their characterizations but hey that's just me.
Yo Windii! Happy to see you’re still doing well. A shame about the whole SAR Copyright strike thing, but I’m glad you are back on your feet. Best of luck!
I feel like this script was less Google Translated and more really descriptive and complex for reasons beyond me. But that like sorta reminds me of Eva in a way. They did say they were trying to change the script to make it appeal to their Japanese audience, the Eva rebuilds finished pretty recently too. Either way it is kinda insane how Kishimoto (i believe he wrote the jp script) just kinda writes scenes completely differently from how they're animated. Bro is just doing whatever he wants. I say all this but it is fun how different it is.
I really hope someone makes a mod that replaces the regular subtitles with this. Amy’s my favorite character tbh and I love her writing much more in this that the English script.
@@maryafantalia8614 I have mixed feelings with “I’m gonna share that love with the world even if it were further apart” after talking about those kocos love for one another. Now the idea of Amy branching off on her own for a while I like but the arc now she’s gonna spread love Amy already has done this and imo it’s not a character arc she needs. Amy throughout the series helps people. Maybe not when she was ultra flanderized but like in the adventure games she helped birdy and gamma and in SA2 she was the one who convinced shadow to save humanity. And even heroes and 06 she was helping her friends and silver. Sharing that love with the world is super vague. I’m not sure exactly what sharing love means in the way she said it. In the Japanese she talks about never haven thought about her immediate future and having been shortsighted. She talks about wanting to improve herself and she wants to come back and sonic to see her lovely lady. No this isn’t “obsession”. It’s showing her realizing something she wants to improve about herself. I mean I guess taking both character arcs together it makes a good character arc. Also another thing Amy’s dialogue in Japanese is just better. Imo the dialogue is bit closer to her personality. However there are things I like about English I can take. I feel we should put both versions together as it gives us a bigger picture of her character arc. Also I disagree that Amy inherently is more mature for not being excited by sonic. Her love was never the problem. The problem was how they wrote it and going too far with how desperate and immature they made Amy at times.
1:52 Immediately fixing my first problem with the English cutscenes: Why would Sonic and friends start looking for the Chaos Emeralds unprovoked after years of never acknowledging their existence? Why would they suddenly care now? I appreciate the writers re-contextualizing this scene to a more plot-consistent "Eggman's up to something and we can't just leave him alone."
Thanks for the upload! I started playing with JP voices + French subtitles, but the differences in text troubled me so much I switched to full JP... French is apparently based on English text which basically simplifies text a lot and replaces dramatic lines with jokes. Problem is, it also loses character specifications like Tails giving a complex scientific explanation in the 2nd cinematic (in English/French, text is so short the subtitle disappears while Tails keeps talking in Japanese). It also replaces some info like "This is Starfall Islands" with clear cut instructions like "Find the Chaos Emeralds". So it seems English (and in fact EFIGS) text is more targeted at children so they don't feel lost. I get it... But I don't need it. EDIT: to be fair, I learned later that the Japanese script had been written after the English one, aiming for a more mysterious tone, so technically the English version didn't "lose" things. And looking back at it, some extra info in the English version like "Look for the Chaos Emeralds" actually makes sense in the story as the mysterious voice wants you to use them indeed. So let's see things the other way round and say the Japanese writers did a good job setting up that tone.

This is really emotional to Sonic, and it makes me happy and sad inside and also his anger about worried that he gets worried about the corruption of the cyberspace. And it makes me happy and sad for his friends and enemies! It’s reminds me how I cared about my family and my friends and my imaginary friend Sayori, even when I made accidents and mistakes I felt that!
(Possibly) Third time Jun'ichi Kanemaru voice with Megumi Hayashibara, as they previously voice in Chinpui (for first time) and Pokémon Advanced Battle (for second time) comment if there are movies, anime shows and games that Jun'ichi and Megumi voiced together.
I honestly think next time they should have the game be written in Japanese and localized in the West. That way that Sonic-tone can be revived completely and, if localized by Ian Flynn, we could have 2 good scripts. Ian's a good Western writer, but that Japanese influence is just straight up gone. This game had the perfect opportunity to be about Sonic's conviction and sheer will power. How despite being in agony, he's willing to suffer just for his friends to have freedom. If written in Japan, that's probably how it would've gone down. But Western writers don't write like that. Not that all Western writing is bad, I like a lot of it. But Sonic's japanese influence really had an impact bigger than you would think. Ian's script... idk, neither of these feel right actually. Japan's is either really rough localizations or don't fit the animation. There's not enough room to improve the story. The Western script is more... comicy? Idk, it feels like a generic superhero script rather than something that would come from Sonic.
I think i prefer the Japanese script actually. It similar to the English one but not as in much in your face. Tho i do tend to prefer Japanese writing over western.
@Windii Gaylord Not a big deal, but I'm curious about moments like this: 6:12 Amy clearly says Sonic's name while the subtitle merely reads "You must have been trapped there too." I assume there's more nuance and context in Japanese, than my brain going "Oh, the line must really be 'Sonic, you must have been trapped there too' but it just got trimmed", correct? Or is it like a first/second/third-person thing that we just don't have in English? Or is it just for easy readability? I'd love to hear the explanation and/or process for stuff like this, if you wouldn't mind. I love knowing about little differences between languages like this. :)
Ngl. While the script does feel different, I can at least appreciate that they kept the end goal joke. I still prefer the English script, but I do think this approach in the story is interesting.
@@somu5929 I feel as though the entire script suffers a lot from "makes more sense for western audiences when subbed" anyhow, because I imagine half of these lines just sound bizarre when one does not view it from the lense of it being a rewrite with possibly strange phrasing. Which is ironic, considering this was supposedly written specifically for the japanese players.
@@somu5929 Purpose and goal are synonymous. And Sonic still answers signposts, animal capsules, and even says "goal ring" in English. The joke still works in this context.
@@lpfan4491 Maybe it is. But I also see what Kishimoto was trying to do here. A too straightforward scenario can have less attractiveness in Japanese, since Japanese people like to “read between the lines (To read the author’s true intentions and feelings that are not written in the text)”. Perhaps by making the lines difficult to understand, they tried to create room for consideration of the story.
Okay, finally watching it now that I've beat the game...Tbh, the only part I actually like better is that one concept about Sonic's Cyber corruption, with it being established that Sonic doesn't consider it being over until he stops moving(much like that line in Black Knight's English dub that I can't remember the Japanese version of), thus making his utter stillness when the corruption fully takes over more haunting. It makes clear that we essentially just saw Sonic die, in his eyes. Very interesting idea that I kinda wish was in the English version.
Yes! YES!! OMG! This is the accurate translation I’ve always wanted! When Sonic yells in pain before turning into a corrupted form, it literally breaks my heart! I can feel his pain. 💔😭 I love Kanemaru-san as Sonikku so much! He will always be Sonikku. 💙 Thank you so much for this accurate translation, Windii! ✨👏

This is a translation of a localization so it went from English to Japanese to English again and yes the Japanese players were dunking on the Japanese translation. Windii is doing much better job translating from Japanese than Kishimoto did from English.
I've only just began Frontiers on PS4 in Japanese, and having just made up to the first Titan I'm wondering if there's any point in playing it with Japanese dub given how little the subtitles match with what's actually being said 😒 ENG Sonic: I guess that's one of the "Titans" keeping Amy trapped. [Sage appears in front of Sonic, jump-scaring him.] Sage: You. Leave. Immediately. Sonic: Where did you come from? Are you trapped too? Sage: Do not approach the Titan. This guy is stupid huge... [Sage appears in front of Sonic, jump-scaring him.] Sage: Sonic the Hedgehog... Sonic: You seem to know me... but who are you? Sage: The supersonic hedgehog... Sonic: I'm in a hurry. You're gonna have to let me through. [Runs past Sage and continues his battle with the Titan.] Sage: High combat capability... I will eliminate you. ENG Sonic: H'Okay. I'm not taking that thing down the traditional way. I'm gonna need the Chaos Emeralds, and maybe a little bit of luck. JPN Sonic: It's so powerful... @@WindiiGitlord hmmm given that you can't really mod the PS4, I think the plan might have to be, play the game, but skip the cutscenes, only to then fire up youtube and watch them here. It's probably more hassle than it's worth, but I really don't like the vocal direction of the English dub. For all I did want Sonic to take itself seriously again, given that Roger Craig Smith is now talking with a more deeper tone, it kinda comes across as trying too hard to be taken seriously that it becomes more like faux seriousness. More so when you consider that Jun'ichi Kanemaru still talks within his natural tone and can sell the seriousness just fine, as he has been doing the past 24 years.

@@MechaKnuckles I'm not sure how eager I'd be to go back and replay the game, even with the correct subtitles for the Japanese audio, because I felt the whole experience was quite... boring. A boring open world, with boring enemies to fight due to a boring combat system, along with a boring story where everyone just stands around and does nothing. Yes there are the Cybespace stages, but I have no interest in through copy and pasted levels from old games, given I'm getting tired of every game being more a greatest hits and I want brand new levels like what we got before before Generations happened and nostalgia became the series' bread and butter and it stays firmly in the past, trying to coast by on nostalgia alone. I'll probably check out the third DLC, with the additional playable characters, but I don't want to get my hopes up too high, especially for Tails and seeing him actually earn his resolution by fighting that Shadow Self he spoke of. Instead of it just being him venting about the past ten years and suddenly gaining some clarity now that he's got it out of his system along with the pep talk from Sonic. Because I doubt after that the Shadow Self would be "well butter my biscuits! I guess thats me beat..." and would never bother the fox cub again. I do want to be proven wrong, but given how the main story went... Because if we did get a battle as Tails against the Shadow Self while trying to save Sonic's soul, it'd not only elevate Tails' struggle, but also make the whole cyber corruption scene carry a lot more weight, rather than it being blink and you miss it with whole little consequence there was to it due to how quickly it was resolved. Making it like something from the Meta Era, with the numerous times Tails has been attempted to be mind controlled during that period.
I’m just a bit confused, why would they change Amy’s Koco’s motives? I think revealing the Koco to be reunited as lovers and not friends wouldn’t do any harm. Plus the mother and children thing was replaced with teacher and students

1:28:39 basically Sonic 06 with Sonic's death, but with less steps, and alot less gameplay. It didn't feel earned at all, what with using the POWER OF FRIENDSHIP! leading to it being like blink and you miss it. I suppose it could be argued that it was power of friendship - mixed with fairy tale cliches, with the kiss of life - for 06, but at least you actually got some gameplay out of it, when you were seeking the Chaos Emeralds as Sonic's friends! The cyber corruption feels like something out of the Meta Era with how much of a non thing it actually was, like Tails being brainwashed, twice. Sonic being "tortured," and of course Null Space in which he was in and out before the cutscene actually finished, if done in real time without the double boost start animation and title card removed.
Can someone tell if there's a voice line in Japanese I because I just english dub because that's just how I roll but I am interested in the Japanese version of the tangle reference out sheer curiosity.
@@WindiiGitlord actually speaking of tangle if she ever will come to the sonic games considering that the comics are canon do you think that she'll have a Japanese voice actor or Sega of Japan just not going to give a scrap as sega Japan never really cared about the American characters "coff" "coff" freedom figthers "coff"
@@WindiiGitlord but if they did sega of Japan will most likely not going any American any attention at all. I wonder of what game apologist would think.
@@miadatenshi9903 I won't waste my time. I think the original version of Sonic is better than the western one, if you don't think so, that's fine, but respect that you don't think the same way if you also want to be respected.
1st off THX SO MUCH WINDII for this. I LOVE THIS SCRIPT WAY MORE THAN WUT FLYNN COOKED UP The dialogue can be hella stilted, awkward, & unfittin at times(no shortage in-part cus the cutscenes were made purely for the eng script & nothin else). Despite that while there R a few moments I think flow better in eng, most of the Changes Jp makes have a MUCH better flow in the story for me(I actually didn't laugh at the Sage cryin scene wit the song/flashbacks from 5-20 mins ago for once lol. Since the context is diff it's less jarrin) Amy, Tails, & Eggman R the MAIN highlights for me. Amy is more consistent wit her character & WAY less vague bout the love shit she was spoutin & the change her journey wit her Koco brings great buildup to it. Eggman is WAY more subtle AND MORE BUILT UP towards his newfound care for Sage which is SO MUCH more consistent wit this 30+ yr character who's never cared for anyone but himself & his pride in his extraordinary creations(the final scene where eggman reaches out for Sage before pullin back & clenchin his fist hits WAY harder). I HATED THE BIG TAILS CUTSCENE that deals wit his character near the end. Havin his character become "inconsistent" is retarded. The changes aren't even huge on a surface level but usin the Koco to help show Tails has his own way of doin things that work for him same as Sonic is WAY better. The eng script was an overcorrection that hurt his character more than it helped imo. Even the way Sage is has a lot of cool changes from her bein more direct bout murderin sonic(lol(& more calculative soundin most of the game overall) to the way She describes him throughout the journey bout how he won't stop runnin even if it kills him cus that's the only way to make sure he doesn't die which to me holds more weight than "Farewell Hero"(they even made the "Goals" reference scene better by addin in the animal capsules lol... SPEAKIN OF). THE WAY REFERENCES R HANDLED IS WAY BETTER cus instead of jus haphazardly tossin any callback in at places it's unnecessary(fortunes, DARK GAIA, STICKS) they're only brought to bring context, info, & elaboration on current events yet R still plentiful to a bearable/highly appreciable degree. The Scene where Amy, Tails & K(heh) save sonic from the cyber-corruption is explained WAY BETTER & thus doesn't come off as a pure "Friendship" cliché (It still is but u get me) & the cheesy music DIDN'T help the eng script imo. Knuckles is the weirdest for me but overall I'd say they're bout equal in things I liked/disliked(his was the only 1 in Eng I had little to no issue wit minus this ONE bit of dialogue but I love the very diff direction Jp takes it too). The Jp script was able to make Flynns Script "SO MUCH BETTER" & keep MOST of it intact while not steppin all over his toes & I didn't think it would be possible without a massive do-over yet THIS WORKS SO WELLL(again minus the stuff I mentioned at the beginnin)!
Tbh it feels super weird how much they botched Knuckles in the japanese script, he definitelly got the short stick on the end here, which is sad cuz the other characters are def better written in this script.
@@SonicMaster2022 oh nah i couldn’t even tell you where the lighting issue(s), my eye ain’t that trained. I just thought sonic and a select couple of the cutscenes just looked either just slightly different from in game model, or completely new and added to the game. Liked everything I saw tho
It's because the English one is the original, Kishimoto tried to "adapt" the script for japanece viewers and it's pretty obvious why we need profesional translators
So wait, in the US version sticks was mentioned but in the JP version she isn’t? So they just made a pointless reference to an annoying little shit from a terrible separate universe series that ruined the chances of us getting remasters of SA1, SA2, and Heroes.
@@calebproductions1264 Which one? If it is about the mainline-version of Sticks, she was introduced pretty soon after her Boom-version. She was added to the official website, was in manga centering around the mainseries-cast, was in several spinoffs(her description in Runners is taken as reference for her mention in Frontiers) and now this. Her not appearing in a major role yet may either be that they are scared of people mistaking her for a boom-crossover(I mean, people already do) or that they simply have exclusion-bias against several characters.(Remember when Cream showed up like once in the prior 10 years?)
@@calebproductions1264 Tbh, it is one of the most obscure things regarding the 2010s, only topped by nonsense that the people behind the writing themselves didn't notice.(Which is stuff like "Lost World 3DS seems to be the canon one due to vague gameplay-details lining up and Frontiers canonizes Gens-radical highway", which contradicts the official statement of "ignore the handheld games entirely". And yeah, that is a silly can of worms deserving of being on an iceberg-image.)
