Agree!! After growing up with the classics on my parents' old Genesis, I got back into Sonic as a tween about 10 years ago when Lost World and Boom were the big happenings. Of course after that came Forces and other years of just... nothing. It was a rough time to be a re-budding Sonic fangirl, that's for sure. But I stuck with Sonic and you know what? It was absolutely worth it to LATER be "rewarded" with Mania, the IDW Comics, the Movies, Frontiers, Prime, and even the April Fool's game. I am HYPED to see what's in store for us next.

@@jennisgurung2760 I'm from the year 2023, specifically December 6th. I'm sorry to break the news but this does poorly age. After the release of the mario movie, Sega came to the conclusion they needed to make sonic even more kid friendly and cute to make them as much money as the mario movie so they scrapped the sonic movies for an illumination movie which will release in 2025. Sonic Frontiers DLCs got cancelled in May and instead they're making SA3... but the writers from Sonic forces are writing it. They also cut their budget even more to save money but continued to expand their team. In August, there were countless protests for pay rises for Sonic Team employees. But to no avail, instead Sega fired them all and started a Discord server under the names of popular RU-vidrs. They took advantage of the naive youngsters and gave them free robux in exchange for their coding talents. In October, people realised what they were doing and they got exposed. Sega tried to manipulate the news by saying they were giving opportunities to bright minds of the next generation and claimed to have no knowledge that the RU-vidrs weren't properly paying them. Everybody saw through that pathetic attempt and backlash grew. In November, Sega was bleeding money rapidly. They started to buy fangames with whatever money that had left and sell them for a profit, but without proper time to perfect them for all consoles they were doomed to fail. The voice actors got out while they still could before the backlash would reach them. Even illumination cut ties with Sega and the rebooted sonic movie franchise was cancelled. In December, Sega shut down. There was a secret investigation which brought even more horrors to light. Stuff which you will have to wait to hear about. To think, all of this could have been avoided... If we didn't watch the mario movie. Oh yeah, marios still doing good. Rate the movie 7/10

​@@unstronzo3517 YES. I haven't played Shuffle, but Battle could've been a really good game if it wasn't limited to the GBA. Plus it has a great story.

Let’s hope Sega bites the bullet and makes the comics canon to the games, and leaves a few hints in both so we can make the timeline ourselves.

The Murder of Sonic felt like an interactive IDW comic and that’s the best thing I can say.

A mediocre, overrated BoTW rip-off full of tedious busywork. A worthless paywall cashgrab of yet ANOTHER Classic compilation. A bland, generic kids cartoon on Netflix. A pointless, forgettable mediocrely written "visual novel" and those pathetic comics. If you think Sonic is in a good spot, your appointment with reality is waiting.

I think we've burned enough from this franchise before to realize that one not-terrible game and a decent visual novel isn't enough to make up for 11 year wait for a decent 3D Sonic game. Doesn't make up for the buggy release of Sonic Colors Ultimate, the rushing of Sonic Origins. Or the entirety of Sonic Boom.

Thing is with both gens and colors you could see the series was still not proud of what it once was before colors, it had safe story, safe enviroments, no other characters aside from sonic and overall sonic became more kid friendly, so no matter what everything after gens was gonna fail

@@Banana807 Hard disagree, while I agree that the franchise was trying to pivot what was considered the failure points of the years before 2010's (Serious stories, weird ideas and extra playable characters. Which I don't blame them for, it works on both a budget and marketing level where you can show people you're going somewhere new that doesn't remind them of what your franchise has been lambasted for while also saving on money since you don't need to dedicate more money on writers, voice actors and the like.) But I don't think the rest of the 2010's was doomed to failure no matter what, Sonic 4: Episode II was a step up from its predecessor but either didn't have enough of a budget or they put Dimps in charge when they showed in the first episode they weren't up to the task. Sonic Lost World, had the most missed potential out of any of the games from the 2010's; since it had the potential and chance to be another big good 3D Sonic game in terms of gameplay if it just harnessed and used the parkour in more interesting ways and didn't play it so safe. But it was also forced to be on a console with a mainly mario audience and already was a small playerbase due to the Wii U failing(SEGA made a 3 game deal with Nintendo for the Wii U). I think even if it stuck safe with the presentation and story, it still could have been a banger in the gameplay department. Sonic Boom and especially Rise of Lyric are the ones where I find that the blame is entirely on SEGA's hands and what doomed it from being a decent game. SEGA didn't tell BigRedButton that they were developing for the Wii U, a console in which their engine CryEngine3 was not designed to run on. If SEGA just told them ahead of time or had promised Nintendo another game later and released Rise of Lyric on other platforms, we could had a decent Jak clone with a Sonic twist because most of RoL development was trying to shove CryEngine3 into the Wii U. As for Sonic Forces, thats what happens when you have only 3 level designers (Unleashed had 8, if I remember correctly) working within a year of full scale development. The story might have been doomed from the start with Sonic aiming for a more kid-friendly demographic but that didn't mean the gameplay had to follow suit. We could had a game that united parts of the franchise, we could have at least Generations level physics and good Classic level design to please the classic fans, Avatar with Adventure level design to please the adventure fans and Boost levels to rival Unleashed/Generations to please the modern fans. But in the end, it just came out a mediocre mess. A lot of these had their reasons for being poor products, corporate not telling all the details, a mediocre development team, not enough budget, or not enough time. But by no means, we're they going to fail no matter what.

@@Banana807 well can you blame them after the franchise basically hit rock bottom for the first time during that period? The reason why they did those things is because they were literally being criticised for it by fans and critics so they decided to take that criticism as well the only well received part of the previous main series game at the time unleashed and build on it for the next two games resulting in two of the best received sonic games in a long time during that period and one of those games was literally made to be a celebration of the franchise at the time

We sincerely need Knuckles Chaotix released; aside from briefly being om GameTap in, I believe 2005-ish, that game has never been rereleased. Mighty and Ray would be cool too!

knuckles chaotix would mostly be good for historical value in my opinion due to how bad it can be but it would still make a logical addition

I'm sorry Sega did not lose confidence after 2009 since they literally decided to build upon the one thing unleashed was praised for at the time and actually decided to take the criticism people had with the stories at the time and tone things down a bit and they ended up making colours and generations which were the most well received games they'd made in a hot minute, things only started getting iffy with lost world and then properly went back downhill with boom but I guess people like you are trying to rewrite history for some reason

While I do agree with most of your statements and I enjoy anything Sonic even though I see why they are failures. I do need to say this. When Sonic Colors first came out people were saying that it was an actual renaissance for Sonic back then too. Then Sonic Generations and Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing Transformed came out and things only went higher. But sadly it was so short lived. :( Because after that the exclusive Wii U Sonic games like Sonic Lost World and Sonic Boom: Rise of Lyric came out and the TV show of Sonic Boom came out. Sadly they were failures especially the Sonic Boom stuff. :( Then Sonic Mania came out and became a huge success while Sonic Forces failed on the Switch. :( Yet with the way things are going now with Sonic Frontiers, Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog, and Sonic Origins as well as the actual Sonic Movies thankfully teaching Sega along the way to be a better video game company with Sonic. I have so much faith and I cannot wait! EEP! :)

@@joel9104 Yeah the games just don't offer what I look for in Sonic anymore. I'm not a fan of the classics so Origins wasn't for me, and Frontiers doesn't really have much that's for me at all.

it feels a little weird that he mentions Literature Club specifically other than any other single visual novel out there, but i suppose it is what it is. (the game gets kinda... yeah)
