The SNES chip synth has a very different tone and feel from the Genesis z80 square waves.

While the Z80 is the CPU driving the sound chips, Z80 isn't really providing sound. The sound is actually 6 FM synth channels (or 6th channel can switch to PCM sample mode) via Yamaha YM2612 and 3 Square + 1 Noise via TI SN76489 PSG / clone Conversely the SNES is using a Sony SPC700 to generate 8 ADPCM sample sound channels

@RightAngle literally just an instrument change and different drum beat. Unlike the MJ act 2 tracks, they even shared music data in the original game!
