That's all well and good, but Sonic isn't gonna survive on 2D alone. The 90's is over, and the world is currently saturated on 2D callbacks. Look at Mario. 2D and 3D goes hand in hand. And it works.
I'm gonna assume that you're talking about just the Sonic fanbase. And the real reason why this game got so popular is because it fulfilled a craving for a worthy sequel to S3&k. That's what people wanted, and it is what they got. I don't think we're gonna see that much of classic Sonic in the future, really. Now that that particular section of the fanbase got their bone, the successful 3D formula from Colors and Generations can grow. Of course, neither dimensions are gonna go away. It's gonna be 2D and 3D as it should be.
Fun Fact: The ink colors are not actually based off of Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, but rather an instance of realism in fiction, because all printed colors are actually mixed from a combination of Cyan, Yellow and Magenta inks!
There are also BONUS STAGE SUPER EMERALD SPRITES found in the game files and even an activated Super Emerald sprite for HPZ that's actually been touched up My theory that the Hyper forms were a last minute removal judging by the fact Super Tails is in the game. They'd already programmed Super Tails at that point it'd be a waste to remove it, so they just removed all traces of Hyper Sonic & Hyper Knuckles' code (If they got to that point) and removed the Super Flickies.
greenknight9000 What would be more likely is that Sonic Team said they couldn't bring Hyper Sonic/Knuckles' back, seeing as they mentioned a while ago that hyper form was a one time appearance in S3&K. Could also be because they didn't want to have to deal with Hyper Sonic possibly in any future Sonic games.
While your theory is quite good, I think the Hyper Evidences could be either leftovers from Sonic 3 & K or leftover data from being removed early in development as I don’t think they’d remove hyper forms if they already had Sonic’s and Knuckles’ hyper forms. It was more likely that Super Tails was added as it would make more sense for him to go Super with the Chaos Emeralds instead of the Super Emeralds.

Has anyone ever noticed the one wall in titanic monarch act 2 will no collision from one side There is a identical type wall in act 1 of titanic monarch as well a little bit after the boss, it seems this transition from act 1 to act 2 was scraped for the elevator transition Also objects like splats in green hill zone are there because the mania team literally just copied and pasted the code from the original levels into mania and edited theme, and did not remove splats or the wrecking ball, that goes the same for the hidden palace in lava reef act 2
It was also added in as homage to Sonic 1 remake from 2013 (I think that’s when they released it?) as I believe it uses the same code, as of my info is correct I think only the file and graphics for it were in the original. Same thing goes for the rolling ball, as it was also correctly coded in the Sonic 1 remake.
the original design of green hill can't be seen in game, but from demo footage we can see that the part with the first giant ring is majorly altered and there are no traces of knuckles path.
I'm pretty sure that those water-skidding things in chemical plant are probably meant to bounce off of to get to other places. Also, that broken up Chopper probably would have been used in the mini-boss.

The guys at 1:50 WERE IN THE DEBUG FOR SONIC 2 and did the same thing they do here and that ball that was in green hill was originally gonna be in sonic 1 and were in the pre release screenshots
In the 1.04 update the added a new animation for tails when the chemical drops on his head he uses his tail, it’s not the same animation for the unused animation. But it’s similar to the unused animation.
I think Studiopolis has no music in the Demo because when it was revealed at Summer of Sonic, it had a slightly different track that was replaced later in development.

Well to be fair i knew a good bit of this. A lot of the info was spreading around. Even so it makes good talking points. And an LP is a good time for it. We need to record a bit more so i could talk about this kind of stuff in the few Zones left to play. We got most of our footage recorded already. It's been a fun LP. you Fogot something it was the zipline . the zipline in the demo in e3 was a wooden zipline. the zipline of the final game it's a purple. ps nobody else has known this
5:20 you're wrong, it's an demo stage that has a music renamed and edited, not an test stage, it's an demo stage, and There's an object called "music" and it links to an music name like "GreenHill1" but it is currently linked to "SPZ1" that doesn't exist, thank me because I am an Modder.

Generations was good, but Sonic Team has made some massive mistakes in the past few years. Sonic 4, and Sonic Forces.. while it's true they oversaw the Mania project, I doubt it was mostly them with the good ideas and design.
by the sounds of it you don't know that you can play as knuckles and tails. while that tails animation is unused in chemical plant zone, there is a animation for tails. it is more boring though...
