Interesting. I've heard a lot of people dissing Origins. I've never had any interest in it from the beginning because I own all the games included because I own CD on steam and I own the rest on the Ultimate Genesis Collection for Xbox 360. There was never a reason for me to be interested, but I was skeptical when I heard fans dissing it because I was like "It's just a widescreen port of the original games right?" I think this video gave me some good context as to why people don't like it. The paid DLC model for a game like this is unnecessary. Why have paid DLC when you're already charging 40 dollars for what's essentially a re-release of games that, in a bundle on sale, probably cost around 10 dollars **total** a few years ago? Sega needs to avoid this business model if it wants to keep the good will of the fans. I feel like Sonic fans can handle bad games and bad releases. Even Sonic Forces had good sales figures, and it was far too short of a game. But at the very least it showed some promise. It showed that it understood a bit of what people like about Sonic: it had the customizable OC's, it had the classic gameplay mixed in with the more modern gameplay, it had the goofy story with the funny cutscenes. It had the referential "we're bringing it back guys" cutscenes. Did it do all those things to their full potential? No. But it showed that at least Sega recognizes that those are the things that Sonic fans want. I think the adjacent release of Mania also showed that Sega is willing to outsource good people to create sonic games. And I think another Sonic Mania type game is just what Sonic needs now. This video managed to showcase that Origins doesn't have the same self awareness that Sega displayed with Mania and, to a point Forces. Origins feels like the sort of re-release you would expect from a different more shady AAA company like Rockstar, EA, Ubisoft, or Bethesda. Taking the other purchase options off of Steam especially reeks of Rockstar-like tactics. Really Origins is less of a gift to the fans as it is a robbery. One may as well be playing roms of the original games with widescreen mods. I think the Sonic 3 music is especially not worth it, you may as well just play a rom of Sonic 3 with a music mod that adds different music to the levels, it's probably accurately what it feels like to play Origins. I normally didn't care about this topic, but this video managed to convince me. If Sega continues down this road with other Sonic games, then it will quickly lose whatever little remaining good will it has with the fans.
"I think another sonic mania type game is just want sonic needs now". Sonic origins got released the way it did due to fans inability to stop worshipping a mediocre game like mania. How come a 2d fangame which has few new levels and rest of them are mixes of the classic levels, happen to cost 20 dollars whilst portals stories & resident evil 4 HD project are free?
@@Leonard_Wolf_2056 That's an interesting take but you can't say that Mania's versions of the older levels are 1 to 1 recreations. They genuinely feel like their own thing compared to their incarnations from previous games. Chemical Plant from Mania is very different from Chemical Plant from Sonic 2. I think calling it a "fangame" is very missleading too. They just got the right people to make the game, there's nothing wrong with that. I'd rather they outsource it to guys like Christian Whitehead, Jared Kasl, and T-Lopes, than have it made by some random studio like Sonic Boom, or make it yet another design by committee project by Sonic Team. Yeah, I couldn't disagree with you more. Mania really deserves all the praise it gets. If Sega was willing to pay the talented fans to create other games, I genuinely believe that they would create some of the better games to be released in the past 10 years. "fangame on a budget" should not a pejorative term when it comes to designing games anymore. If yoou handed over the next Mario title to a paid studio of the best Mario 64 Romhackers, you'd create the most revolutionary 3D mario of all time.
@@toadysp still 2D and it has 1993 textures, and it still costs 20 dollars whilst a true modern game like resident evil 2 remake costs 40 dollars. Do you think money just falls from the sky in order for people to buy entertainment media pieces rip offs(this was true in the dawn of pirate Bay, and is even "true-r" now considering you can't even own games these days). Either way, you still haven't answered this question: how come mania costs 20 dollars whilst portal stories Mel and resident evil 4 HD project are free?
For me it was worth it because I made videos on it and it got around boosting my subs for two weeks. Other than that, as a person who grew up with these games, they really broke what didn't need fixing.
this video has higher quality then origins itself holy wha- anyways, sorry for copying what everyone else is saying, but i can honestly see you becoming a big time youtuber in the coming months, best wishes
The craziest part is, after all of the steam versions of those four games were delisted. People on the internet (one of those people being me), have found out ways to play Sonic 1 Forever, Sonic CD Restored, Sonic 2 Absolute, and Sonic 3 Angel Island Revisited, FOR FREE (if you want to know how, I made some tutorials about it on my channel). But that still is crazy that you can play MUCH BETTER ports of these four games FOR FREE. And meanwhile, SEGA is over here charging $45 for inferior ports
i do agree with everything but ill most likely purchase it in the future when it's physically released that is i dont get why they skipped a physical release? i would only get it for the sake of collection purposes but ill most likely experience the game for myself cuz everyone's experience is usually different great video though! the editing is nuts
The funny thing is that if you got Sonic 1, 2 and CD on mobile, and Sonic 3 AIR on PC, you basically have Origins without the stuff that most of the people don't care about, COMPLETELY FOR FREE. GG Sega.
You can turn off the spindash in sonic 1 just put in the code to get to the level select Screen. I’m super unhappy with these ports especially the incorrect physics in sonic 3& knuckles at times.
very good video, i'm surprised your channel doesn't have much attention yet, definitely going to watch your videos from here on out. i was wondering what the music is that plays from 3:03 onwards? i've tried searching stuff like "labyrinth zone minor key remix" etc to no avail, haha
ty for this. mega collection + is much better. not only does that game cost less and comes with more games, it also didn't lock stuff like music, and artwork behind PAYWALLS, and also did not introduce bugs that were not in the original titles, also why didn't we get any commericals in origins? that would've been sooo cool to look at if it included them, also what about comics? mega collection + had a BUNCH of archie and even fleetway stuff if i remember correctly, why didn't origins have the new IDW comics stuff? i didn't even pay for origins and i don't plan on since you can play sonic 1, 2, and CD on mobile, and literally play sonic 3 & K on computer, while i like frontiers so far i'm super dissapointed in origins and don't like how sega likes making us pay for stupid useless stuff (cough cough colours ultimate)
you can actually turn off the spindash in sonic 1, but its really stupid. you have to enter DEBUG mode and turn it off from there! (if u dont know how to enter debug mode in sonic 1 you have to press the button combination up, down, left, right on the title screen)
Good video! Yeah, I've heard nothing bad stuff about this one. There are so many other, better ways to play these games, so there really is no reason to pick this one up at all. Honestly, how many times has the Genesis Sonic trilogy been released on various game systems? Go play those versions instead.
to be honest i enjoyed sonic origins for what it is however things like the shit dlc and the price being a little too high i can agree on but for what it was it was solid nothing amazing but just an ok way to play the retro engine ports and a new sonic 3 widescreen port
I liked the collection honestly because I got to try 3&k finally and and the games are still fun (unless tails continues jumping off screen but that's patched)
@@pappo447 I feel the hack "Sonic 3 Complete" did the best job at converting the prototype soundtrack to the Genesis sound font. Sega should _definitely_ contact ValleyBell, the person who converted the prototype soundtrack to the Genesis sound font for that hack, and ask him if they can add his compositions to the game as a patch for people who don't like Jun Senoue's version (as well as making the Super Sonic music the unused theme that was used in Origins for "New Blue Spheres")
Personally, the removal of the life system is one of the main things that made me decide against getting this game. Like, they want to make a new Sonic game with no lives? Fine. They want to add an infinite lives option to this collection of old games? Fine. But removing the life system entirely from old games that not only had it originally, but was very clearly designed with that system in-mind, and have no option to use that system? That's fucking unfathomably stupid. Like sure, you *technically* have the option with classic mode, but that restricts you to 4:3, even though the biggest reason to play Origins over the original releases is the widescreen, and widescreen in a Classic Sonic game is too much of an upgrade for me to want to play in 4:3. But there's no reason I should be forced to play in babybitchpussy mode if I want to play in widescreen. The thing that pisses me off most is that this would be so *easy* to add. classic mode is still the Retro Engine remakes as opposed to emulating the originals, and lives are present in the boss rush and mission modes. THE LIFE SYSTEM IS LITERALLY ALREADY PROGRAMMED INTO THE GAME, JUST ADD AN OPTION FOR THEM IN ANNIVERSARY MODE AND THAT'S IT.
While this is certainly A WAY to play sonic 1 2 3 and CD I just think you should go emulate the originals or if it's an option play the original releases. Thing is I dont think any one would complain if something like Chaotix or Mean bean machine weren't remastered and just came as they were released originally. For a game that claims to be a "CELEBRATION OF CLASSIC SONIC" most of the classic sonic history isn't here imagine if they included and episode or 2 from the old cartoons or even just some comic book covers to look at. And how does a "CELEBRATION OF CLASSIC SONIC" not include the original non remastered versions of these games. This game pisses me off just due to the potential there that was wasted and I'd be willing to forgive it if the games worked half the time but NO they don't.
Did SEGA give sonic team one day to make origins or what? With the price tag such as Origins, you'd expect they'd use that money to bring MJ back to the land of living and have him compone all the tracks for s3 & CD. Considering otherwise what they have to offer is a collection of 3.5 2d games that were made when Moses was a child. Either way, don't expect much to change with a franchise that has a long history of sonic fans getting dissapointed with sonic games for over 30 years. The expectations have fallen down so low, fans have... Hard times to differentiate between enjoying a game, and a good game.
if they did not cancel sonic x treme the sonic games could have been very different, also at least they should have put some game gear games like sonic 1 and sonic 2 game gear versions and sonic chaos and sonic triple trouble on sonic origins
2:02 Yeah, you're comparing Sonic Origins' version of Ice Cap to an unofficial remaster? I think you definitely should've got the original version of the prototype track
That's just kinda a nitpick. I know the remaster sounds roughly the exact same as the original, but there are a few extra beats that very well aren't from the original
Why are you whining about a compilation for being the compilation it claimed to be lol. Most people are complaining about the various bugs i dont understand your take though.
İn conculsion get sonic 1 forever ,sonic 2 absolute and sonic 3 air to run the games and get the pirated rom and apk and for sonic cd pirate or find vid where kid give a link for c.w version of cd for free or play the iphone version
Sonic Origins wasn't as bad as the first games, its getting better. Sega tried their hardest, and they take multiple years on each game. I think they deserve a pat on the back instead of a wave of hate, though the Sonic Movie has been taking place for hope. The quality and everything was not so bad in Origins. Plus they can always fix bugs lag and more. Use better high quality devices for Origins for less lag. I'm kind of half and half in the hate comments but it would get a 3.5 from me. I understand its your opinion and this is mine, I'm not trying to harass or upset anyone. Just wait for newer games to come out. It will be higher quality throughout the years as Sega has been since 1991. ! Quick Message To Those Who Read ! 1: Its my opinion. 2: I'm not trying to be mean or hate on you. 3: I'm half and half. [ Both sides ] 4: Idk what to say next so have a great day/night and goodbye. 16:38 04/08/22
Tha that's robotic is not a robotnik I know you say YOLO what I instantly regret this like what the f***is Sonic frontiers is going to suck anyways because there's no Chao garden
Honestly Sonic 3 prototype and Sonic 3 and knuckles Michael Jackson music and the prototypemusic more better than the bowcraft little s***** music and Sonic origins like what the f*** is wrong with something
Why do I need Sonic Origins anyway? I got Sonic 1 Forever, Sonic 2 Absolute, Sonic A.I.R. (which has the Prototype music ACTUALLY SOUNDS like the Leaked Prototype from 2019. And if you don't want the proto music, you can switch it back to the retail music.), and Sonic CD & Knuckles (Yes, no matter what Sega says, Sonic CD takes place AFTER Sonic 3 & Knuckles in my mind, they only said that it's before Sonic 2 to please the majority of fans who actually believe it like the normies they are. Aka "Fan Service". Sue me) Oh and Mega Collection and Gems Collection are just boring Emulated ports of the original with nothing new added to them. At least Sonic Jam did something new for the games they had. And in that regard only exists so Nintendo fans and Kids from the 2000s can experience 2D Sonic. I never had a Gamecube, PS2 or any console in my possession in my life, so I find the Christian Whitehead Remakes Sonic 3 A.I.R., and even Sonic Jam, to be infinitely superior to the Gamecube ports.
