@Mad Society20294 I personally have always preferred the lighter, more comedy-based Sonic cartoons (Adventures and Boom) over the darker, more action-based Sonic cartoons (SatAM, Underground, X, and Prime).
@Mario & Sonic Fan I can't argue with you there lol sometimes I do think she's better lol say what you will about Sonic 06 but I at least thought blaze was cool in that game
@@FlyingDuckMan360 I love the adventure of sonic the beginning I don't know I prefer the humor in that show more than Sonic boom lol but I also love Sonic Satam and Sonic X and nope the last part is a lie I don't like Sonic Prime at all
The worst part is, its canon to the games…… Like how the fuck would that make sense after frontiers?? I actually like this show overall, sonic’s personality was just kinda the only bad thing.i would have zero issues if it wasnt canon
Exactly People somehow defend This sonic's characterization saying its needed so he will develop Here is the problem, Sonic already learned all these lessons in the games and How dumb can you be to need to listen to someone telling you not do destroy something when you are supposed to be a teenager There are still flaws to it even If it wasnt cannon to not make it as good as people make it out to be, Sonic being dumb doesnt work even If its not canon to the games
I was looking forward to watching Sonic Prime, enjoyed the first couple of episodes, but after that I was so bored with it and could not stand Sonic’s characterization. He’s too hyperactive, always mentions his friends and how much he misses Green Hill as if that’s the only place that exists in Sonic games. I liked Nine, I wish I could like other characters like Rouge, Knuckles, Big, and Amy, but they feel like they just exist. I feel like the show is like this because again, it was targeted toward a younger audience (correct me if I’m wrong on that). Idk I personally liked Sonic Boom a lot more, at least the characters were more fleshed out in that, even if it’s more comedy based rather than action and storytelling based. Unrelated, but I recently discovered your channel and am loving your content! Keep up the good work!
I watched only a few clips and was immediately turned off by this show solely due to Sonic's character. This show is supposedly to be canon to the games yet Sonic acts so immature and dumb, almost inexperienced. I doesn't make any sense for him to be like this.
Buddy, if he was perfect, everyone would say there's no character development. If he has flaws, people call him immature and dumb. What else do you want? The main thing about this show is for Sonic to be immature at the beginning and become more mature as the show continues. It's called character development. I understand where you're coming from, but I thought I should just let you know that the show isn't planning on keeping him immature.
and one more, if you want amazing character writing, you Must pray that one day JAPANESE guys takes apart of Sonic writing. Like Hiro Masaki and his dedicate for Sonic X. Japanese Guys always put great Effort to this kinda stuff.
Yep this is sonics worst incarnation. Hes not cool at all. They took the weird quirkyness from the movie and juiced it all out into one character. Hes not funny and hes too immature. Not him at all. I fear that the series is taking the independent force of hope and light sonic used to be and turn him into a gag hero that the whole cast picks on (shadow doesnt even see him as a equal anymore, he just sees sonic as a straight up idiot, and so do the alternate universe characters do). Sad because sonic used to be a character the rest of the cast used to look up to. Now its like they are babysitting him
I think it’s a decent show. It would’ve been nice if it was an animated like how the Sonic Frontiers animation with knuckles was instead of it having the same 3D style as Sonic Boom. I have no clue why it just kinda feels like the 3D style does not fit the show in my opinion.
I think it's because of the mindset of bigger cooperations thinking 3D is better, so many shows that were better in 2D turned 3D and looked so much worse, and I guess that's just the standard now which sucks.
@@derple8524 Yeah now that I think about it, it’s not just because of that. I realize that sonic boom show was kinda meant to be a comedy. I haven’t watched too much of it but it’s just so uncanny seeing the exact animation style being brought in for Sonic Prime which is meant to be more of a serious show. It just doesn’t work especially since it looks almost the exact same from boom
Finally someone talking about my issue with the show When I watched the first episode, I barely made it to the end of it and I was so disappointed and bored so I looked up some spoilers and story explanations for the show to find if there was something interesting because I've heard that the show is canon so I wanted to know if Sonic is gonna have some charatcter development and be mature, but oh boy have I ever felt more disappointed I was so so happy when I saw the characterization in Frontiers and that the series will shift into a more mature tone just to throw all of that away? almost everyone was praising the direction of Frontiers I really hope they fix this in the upcoming episodes but since the show is for kids, I don't see that happening Edit: I was even more disappointed when I saw that all of the reviews are praising the show and couldn't find a single negative one at the time even after I searched "Sonic prime is bad" And you know what the worst part is??? Those people were the same people that were shitting on the direction of the meta era Edit 2: I want to thank you for reading all of this in case you made it to the end
I also didn't like the movie Sonic He also cracks jokes and acts like a child wich can be sometimes cringe but it's still way better than Prime Knuckles and tails were done right in the movie tho.
@@OMR3333 Movie Sonic at least got the backstory to back it up and is entirely new to the whole Hero thing. Prime Sonic as of Nine's backstory is on the hero gig for multiple years. Never mind that Sonic Movie 2 was all about Sonic growing up and becoming more reasonable and serious when it matters and that is his second big adventure.
SPOILER ALERT: READ AT YOUR OWN RISK Having seen all eight episodes of Prime, I have to say I'm mixed on it. Maybe it's my personal preferences, but I've always preferred the lighter, more comedy-based Sonic cartoons (Adventures and Boom) over the darker, more action-based Sonic cartoons (SatAM, Underground, X, and Prime). I will admit I do like Prime's concept; Sonic travelling to different dimensions where he meets different versions of his friends. Thus far, we've seen a dystopian city ruled by Dr. Eggman's relatives, a jungle, and a pirate ship on the open seas. I also did like the references to the games, namely the password to Tails' Workshop being 1992 and Big the Cat being referred to as Citizen 1998 (both references to the release dates of their debut games). However, my main issue with Prime is its dramatic tone, particularly in episodes where Sonic visits New Yoke City. I get that the show was going for a SatAM vibe, since that show was the first Sonic cartoon to get renewed for a second season, but it didn't work in Underground, and I don't feel it works in prime. Also, the ending to the Season 1 finale, "There's No Arrgh in 'Team'", left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth. Sonic meets up with Shadow in the limbo dimension, who tells him that his world is in ruins, and it's all his fault, setting up a cliffhanger for the next season. Now, to my knowledge, every Sonic cartoon has ended on an unresolved cliffhanger. While a few of them (SatAM, X, and Boom) did get renewed for a second season, even those seasons teased new seasons that never came to be (for SatAM, it was because Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers was beating them in the ratings, and for Boom, it was because Christina Miller turned Cartoon Network into a dumping ground for Toddler Titans reruns). I want to be optimistic, but because Netflix, once the #1 video streaming service, is now facing stiff competition from other leading services such as Disney+, HBO Max, Hulu, and Paramount+, I feel that Prime isn't going to be the first Sonic cartoon to end on a proper resolution. Sorry, Sonic Prime, but it looks like Green Eggs and Ham (2019) is still my favorite Netflix-exclusive cartoon.
I don't hate it I just hate how Sonic is portrayed. He's so childish and honestly kind of a dick. Make him how he was Frontiers. Cocky, but mature and compassionate. That's Sonic!
I also just realized it appears that this version of Sonic has no experience with events from any of the games because he's oddly worse at combat than I thought.
This is the problem... Our Sonic is serious and cool And Sonic in Prime is just a joke 💀 Sonic Prime was made for kids, but also Sonic Team say that Sonic Prime is canon to original series.
finally got around to watching this show. I can't believe Thorn (Primal Cave woman Amy) is more unlikable than Infinite and even has a lamer back story of why she's like that Infinite got beat up by shadow and got called worthless and threw a tantrum with a reality bending crystal Thorn Saw the others taking food supplies away from plant life and animal life and threw a fit and became a nut case and hard ass that didnt care for anything or anyone but her annoying bird companion... Only to then at the end suddenly become like "okay maybe I was wrong" in the span of an episode and a half? Yeah I'll just Stick to Sonic X Japanese for my sonic shows lmao I'd rather deal with Chris over the different dimension versions of Sonic's mobian friends
So I was a big Sonic fan as a child and my favorite character was Sonic. I played all the games up to Sonic the Hedgehog PS3 from the beginning and that's why I still have this picture of the old Sonic who didn't think so much of himself and didn't talk too much but simply took his fate into his hands even in difficult moments like against chaos in sonic adventure. I thought I'd watch the show and I was so happy, I don't play games anymore but I just thought watching something that I loved back then would be really nice but the portrayal of Sonic bothered me so much that I didn't I finished the series from the first episode so as not to ruin the image of Sonic that I knew back then.
A lot of people are complaining about Sonic's immaturity but the whole point of the show is for Sonic to become more mature by the end. I personally don't think that's a good enough argument to dislike the show. But everyone has an opinion. I personally think Sonic prime is one of the best Sonic shows.
I get that they made sonic flawed so he can have a character arc. It's not great, but it's a step up from the meta era writing. What's weirdest to me is the whole concept of a dimension-hopping adventure... I can't tell if it's aimed at Sonic fans or meant to attract a new audience. I don't think a new audience would get much enjoyment from seeing different versions of characters they don't know. And for existing fans, setting the entire show in Green Hill, even if it's alternate versions of it, makes the world feel small and the cast isolated from everything else. Part of Sonic's appeal has always been the world being more fleshed out and interesting than its contemporaries.
@@bakedbeans5494 Don't know what you want atp. If he's too strong, people say "no development". If he's weak so they can improve his skills by the end, people say "he's too nerfed". I'm getting done with these stupid complaints. Don't care if he's "still weak". He's supposed to become stronger by the end. This just shows that you guys don't get the purpose of everything Sonic's going through.
Your right everything you just said about this is right I did not like this show that much I give it a 3/10 your right the story's basic and its just cringe
okay, but you cant say that. its just your opinion. there are definitely some pros with sonic prime, maybe you just havent noticed them yet. its okay to not like the show, but its just wrong to say that it _IS_ bad or _SUCKS._
@@aedan742 and who r u to say their opinion is wrong? Thats what opinions are for.. u just dont agree with it, but the fact is not everyone will like this show, i also thought it kind of sucked in a lot of ways but thats just my opinion too, just like someone is allowed to love it
@@chewbleu They aren't stating their opinion if you look closely at their words, they're implying as if whatever they're saying is a fact. "The story's basic and it's just cringe" is what they said. They said it in a very factual way as if that's the truth when it's actually just their opinion on the show.
While some points are kinda nitpicky, I couldn't agree more with what you said about Sonic's characterization. Ignoring his inaccuracy to the games' portrayals (btw this show is canon that should NOT be an issue), halfway through my mind just assumed that whoever wrote Sonic here watched 2 meta era cutscenes, a few memes and then he based him off of those sources
Sonic prime is just sonic storybook the tv series. A real sonic prime series should have zonic; Sally and the freedom fighters; Sonia and manic; feel the rabbit and other more unfamiliar things rather than just cosplay of the approved cannon characters...
I also didn't really like the action sequences. It's as if I'm watching smash bros Sonic. All Sonic does is boringly spindashes into enemies, and it just looks cheap. Sonic X, heck even Sonic Boom had more interesting fighting choreography.
The baby eggman thing was annoying, but I was enjoying it up until we saw those other universes which felt like unused boom story ideas. The animation also is inconsistent af. Sometimes Sonic looks unifinished and so does Shadow, still lost at all the animation praise it had before it was even released. Then we got part of a story 8 episodes? I mean they could at least all LOOK good then? "Nine" is about the only cool thing to come out of this show.. Also I see a lot of Sonic X praise in the comments and I gotta say I'm not a huge fan of it either but S2 was actually pretty great, Chris sucks but that show at least well, is definitely Sonic, and kinda wish a new dub was made cause 4kids didn't really "butcher" but they did make too much seem less idk...dangerous. I think it just didn't work on the whole SonicAdventure2/Shadow Story and the other arcs b4 and after it.
I really don't like this show either, but I don't agree with you about Sonic being snarky and cocky being a bad thing. I would argue he's even moreso that way in Sonic Boom, and that is more in line with his original character. Satam nails this characterization well too. However I will agree that he is way too hyperactive, and honestly one dimensional. I kind of feel like Sonic's personality in Frontiers isn't that great either. And yes, I absolutely dread the pacing. The animation, concept, and messaging had potential, but the dialogue is so bad. I don't understand how people can say Boom was childish when the humor was so much more adult, and the characters felt more real. And that's a COMEDY!
I cannot believe I’m saying this, I really liked Sonic Boom more than Prime. The show was funny, adults could watch it and still get laughs out of it, and Sonic wasn’t a goofball. I watched the show for the first time in Roblox…for an item. I had hope in it and watched the full thing when it came out, and when season 2 came out I DIDN’T PY ATTENTION TO ANY OF IT. I was trying to play VR and watch the show at the same time but it didn’t keep my interest. That’s another complaint, the show is BORING. I remember when we noticed the show got a “for ages 7 and up” and we got scared but we said again “it’ll be fine!” And it wasn’t. The show is INSANELY kiddish, goofier than Knuckles in Sonic Boom. Sonic isn’t like Sonic, he’s just kinda a moron and sometimes even rude. The Sonic movies represented Sonic significantly better than Prime even, with Ben Schwartz doing a great Sonic character. So I don’t like Sonic Prime at all, basically. I’d much rather watch Sonic Underground because it keeps my attention and at least is entertaining. I hope Season 3 is the end.
I agree. My favorite Sonic shoe by far is The Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog. It’s much better than Sonic Satam and Sonic Prime. Sonic Satam has the best setup of all of the sonic shows but, they botched it by making the characters not do anything to push the plot forward.
I was interested when it was first announced but I was quickly turned off by the voice actors. I mean they're fine but they try way too much to emulate the game cast. Like seriously, at that point, get the game cast to do the voices as they did in Sonic Boom. I'm especially bothered that Mike Pollock, the man who's been voicing Eggman for 20 years, didn't voice Eggman in this show. Now that's a strike for me and it's such a shame cause I liked what I've seen so far
My main issue is that these versions of the characters are canon to the games when they're almost completely different and share no similarities at all.
Well, What you could expect from not dedicated to fans and All Ages marketing target animation. Also there's sum point i agree, lil bit bored especially at sonic vs thorn rose scene, good review 👌.

I am so happy i found someone who agree with me. I think you are one of a few to actualy critisize the show. I also didnt like the show, i am a long time sonic fan and i saw many portray of sonic in deffrent media and i think that the story of this show is very lacking in both the characters, world and the story itself. We dont get any itrodauction to the characters ecsept a small comantery from sonic at the begining which for me shows that the creators was not sure themself what are they trying to do with the them. They now that the story take place in the many diffrent dimanstions(3) and that they dont really need to intrude them so they didnt care and just let the fans who are allredy familiar with them to make out what ever story they want. Like if shadow is there is it implaing that the events of sonic adventure 2 occured? Of shadow is not a clone nor "ultimate life form" what is he? The show only said "its complicated" which shows that the writers dont really want to be bothered. It feels like the writters didnt really cared about the characters not the universe of sonic and they just got the assimant to make a kid school morning cartoon about diffrent dimanstions and the power of friendship. So yea its 3/10 for me. Very forgetable, uninspiring and does not provide anything new to the sonic frenchise. It would be forgotten as sudanly as it appeared.
i have 3 things to say to you. 1, please learn better grammar. 2, you didnt check half of the points you made on this list. 3, HOW WOULD IT BE FORGOTTEN??? ITS THE MOST MEMORABLE THING IN THIS ENTIRE COMMUNITY AT THIS TIME! YOU CANT BE A SONIC FAN AND NOT HAVE HEARD OF IT, WETHER YOU LIKE THE SERIES OR NOT!
Well, What you could expect from not dedicated to fans and All Ages marketing target animation. Also there's sum point i agree, lil bit bored especially at sonic vs thorn rose scene, good review 👌.
Look, Sonic is flawed, I know, and yeah he immature, and this series is about him getting more mature as the show continues, but this is ridiculous. He seemed like a parody or exaggerated personality of normal Sonic. i love sonic but this sonic... i cant stand his personality,.. and yeah the series maybe good, but if this series is just me watching my hero sonic doing dumb decisions and getting his ass kicked so easy for all 3 seasons until he get to being mature, then f this, i wanted to see my hero doing heroic stuff, not this clown, if someone of you know a episode where he not being a joke, and a everyone punch bag, tell me so i can enjoy that episode please!
@@SonicAdventureEnjoyer X is not accurate to the games at all because Chris had to steal the role place of Tails in Sonic's life and the adaptations of SA and SA2 are just bad and cringe thanks to the bad animation and the changes in order to add Chris and the human cast. And also, the characters there are almost all just flanderized versions of the games counterparts (Knuckles can tell). SatAM may be not too accurate to what Sonic is today, but in the 90's DIC just made a miracle creating a deep plot from small paragraphs of the game manuals. Also SatAM has a way better animation, storytelling and better characters.
I agree with you, I liked alot of the concepts in the series. Like Nine being a version of tails who never met Sonic and had to be completely indepentant which leads to him not trusting anyone. But the show didn't seem to take itself very seriously. Also they got Shadow wrong again. Like in Boom, a one dimensional jerk for no reason. What happened to the Batman like character who cares for others in Sonic Heroes and 06?
i didn't watch the entire season all the way through, but i remember watching like one episode with my younger brother before and thought of how boring of a show it felt. it was the jungle episode or something that pretty much threw me off.
@Jay Agreed. It's a shame that thanks to Christina Miller turning Cartoon Network into a dumping ground for Toddler Titans reruns, it never got the screentime and attention it so rightfully deserved (this is true of many other Cartoon Network shows as well, but Sonic Boom is the one I care about the most).
@@FlyingDuckMan360 tbh idk why im talking bad about sonic prime i aint even watched it fully but it just seems lame and sonic is lame and is not a good leader and hes childish. I loved sonic boom i watched the entire show 3 or 4 times

I do find Sonic Prime entertaining. However, this is supposed to be canon with main line Sonic but he acts more like move Sonic. Especially after playing Sonic Frontiers, Prime Sonic's immaturity really stands out.
Fair points if you ask me. I used loved this show when I first watched it, (or at least rated the show as high of a score Netflix lets me anymore.) Now, I do not know if I should like the show anymore. It is just okay at best to me now. I strongly agree with you on how poorly protrayed and written Sonic is in this adaptation. Sonic is supposed to this flat, perfect character we knew from the games, but here, he is rewritten to be this barely sympathetic jerk straight out of a Saturday morning cartoon. Do like this version of Sonic and should been handled with better care.
0:42 sonic acting like this is becuase its intentional the whole point of Sonic prime is for Sonic to grow as a character with him being like how he is at the start and him getting better as the show goes on thats his character arc
“I liked his goofiness and he just a funny character.” Dude you lost me there already. Knuckles isn’t supposed to be funny and a goofy character even though he’s been downgraded that way. Knuckles is supposed to be serious and taken more seriously.
Would be a valid argument until you understand that Sonic Boom is completely separate, non-canon adaptation of the series. Meaning that what knuckles is "supposed to be" doesn't apply.
I like how instead of being a jerk about it and saying your opinion is correct, you mention that it is your own opinion, and that other people can have thier own opinion
Sonic shows & movies rated: Sonic movie 2: 8/10 Sonic movie 1 6/10 Sonic x:2/10 Sonic boom 7/10 The amazing adventures of sonic or whatever that creepy show is called 1\10 Sonic underground 0/1000000000 (the most baddest shows out there
wow you are definitely a youngster. Boom is boring and its a ruination of the characters with some well thought jokes but it becomes dry fast. Adventures is a Looney toons like sonic show with just random stuff happening. Not really something you can take seriously SatAM is a more serious approach to sonic based on the archie comics but its a fun one to watch and the characters and world building around It are great Underground is bad i agree there but its ideas were great and had potential X was my favorite one. It got sonic accurate and everyone around him felt like themselves (not all and there's some weird things) but it gets it much better done than most of the other sonic shows and its story and characterization are great I have no opinion on the sonic movies as i refuse to watch them. I can't stand the voice actors (besides Tails) so im just passing
Sonic the Hedgehog is my favorite character of all time How they just messed up his character That honestly annoyed me and not made me happy i don't think this is Sega who did it it was other people who made the show
I hate furry trash but once I saw what they did to Rogue I knew the show was gonna be woke. I'd prefer if they just left her out of the show but the get rid of her bust screamed woke. I never liked the character but I know some people do. I'd feel pretty upset if they Shrunk Cammy and Chun Li's tits. Oh wait they did.
agree with the "boring" part. could barely stay focused. I really see the effort they've put, the animation and colorful and great, but writing blows so hard. too many little inconsistencies, very irritating. predictable lines, repetitive episodes, fights are wayyy too long, and every time you think "well that's it, the final attack, they won!", there are more robots. again. again. and fucking again.
I think the show is fine. Sonic Boom is still the best Sonic show for me(Disagree with me. It's a comedy show, and it does it's job). The main thing that motivated me to watch Prime was Shadow, and how he was going to be written(so far he is okay, not bad not good). The main problem with the show, and a lot of people agree, it's the main character. Frontiers has one of the best written Sonic ever, following that with this portrayal the problems are very noticeable, I felt 2010's vibes with this Sonic (I also don't like Deven Mack as Sonic, even though I like everyone else in the cast). I think the next seasons could make the show better. Also I excuse the references in Frontiers because of how well put they are in the dialogue, but here it comes out of nowhere. Do we really need a random flashback of how Sonic met Knuckles? We already saw that 3 different times in 2022. Same with the Tails one. Also I don't know how people feel about the rings system, but it's so weird. It works on a VIDEOGAME, but if you don't have a ring and you get hit in the show you die??? What?
I agree with the flashbacks, it's too distracting and takes me out of it. As for rings I think they'll structure it as when you have them you're filled with power and strength but when you lose them you feel weak. But they didn't do well to show that in the show as he loses his rings in ep 2 or 3 and is still able to hold off against enemies without them so what's the point? I appreciate the reference to the games but it's best to just keep them in the games only. Bonce pads with the sound effects are a fine enough reference alone since it's self-explanatory being an object that bounces you high up, but the rings serve no purpose
mad fax lol U gotta be below 13 to think its something peak, repeats the same shots way too many times, cringy comedy, bad characterization for most characters, lame planets minus the first one. The games somehow happend despite the fact how sonic and knuckles met in Prime is a contradiction to sonic 3, some of the animations are too weird. Nine is pretty much a what If you'd see on youtube, he's a more family friendly tails from the fanfic where was my hero
It's a mediocre generic cartoon. It fails at establishing the "Prime" continuity to make the audience care or how things work in this.......Green Hill, uggghhhhhh. The multiverse plot has been USED TO DEATH. I'm sick of it. None of these dimensions really impressed me. New Yoke City ? Been there, done that by SatAM. Primitive world ? Boring. Pirates ? Boring. The voice actors are mixed. Deven Mack sounds like what Roger Craig Smith would be if he actually put EMOTIONS into voicing Sonic, but I'm still not a fan. I like Amy and Rouge's VA. Not a fan of Shadow's VA and I can't stand how they're still deadset on the whole "Grrrr Ow teh edge rival" bs. WTF is even Knuckles' voice ? It's not as god-awful as Boom, but it's just a mediocre, generic kids show. And the first episode of Season 2 is still set on being this way. I'll pass. Sonic is pretty much a dead franchise outside of the (okay at best) movies.
Glad I’m not the only one who dislikes Sonic’s character in this show. It’s why I’m currently not a fan of the show. With that in mind, I’m still waiting for the rest of Prime to be released before I form my full opinion about the show as a whole.
