Sonic R Improvement Mod is a Mod of Sonic R created by Showin, featured as an entry for this years Sonic Hacking Contest.
This mod is an attempt at trying to improve on some of Sonic R's issues by tweaking the game in several ways. Here is a quick rundown on some of the more major changes.
- Character physics tweaked for more control.
- Characters rebalanced so each one is generally usable.
- A final boss race against Eggman is added once Radiant Emerald is unlocked.
- A brand new practice stage! (HOLD L/R-BRAKE BUTTONS WHEN SELECTING RESORT ISLAND)
- Collision tweaks to some areas to improve the flow. (ex: trees in Resort Island)
- Bigger hitboxes on various items. (ex: tokens, emeralds, etc)
- Boss music is added for the boss race encounters.
- Higher quality sound effects that are better on the ears.
- Various other improvements as well.

Felt like I wanted to make this a sort of follow up from Sonic R Mania, lots of unique things to mention. Couple of codes were added in to make things interesting, those consisting of a Dynamic Difficulty, Hidden Character races being more engaging, and on top of that, my very first in all the years of playing Sonic R, now playing this on Hard Difficulty!
Never thought we'd be witnessing Amy or Eggman ever get a sort of improvement, though it feels like Eggman is going off here lol. This mod definitely feels like now every character is worth playing. Something to mention, I ended up going back to 3 stages only because I didn't pick up all the emeralds. The final race being a 1 on 1, literally feels like a Final Boss which is awesome. Probably can say as well that 2 super clutch moments had just happened going back to Resort Island & Radical City.
