I didn't know he was a sonic fan. That's lit 💙. Idris Elba is both obviously black (which the creator of this paid attention to the fact that Knuckles is a character black people claim as one of us... Like Piccolo for example😂) but Idris is also a Jamaican (also like me 😂 🇯🇲) and the echidna tribe is seemingly island influenced also so it's like a triple okie doke
Oh it's a throwaway role for him and he knows it. If the movie sucked, he can blame the IP. If the movie is a success, he can cash in. It's the perfect role.
When Knuckles told them to back away from Super Sonic because he was no longer "the one they once knew", I honestly thought we were about to get a Fleetway Sonic easter egg.
@@jaredlaughlin3703 it would be so cool to see them incorporate that storyline into a legit theatrical release, like maybe Sonic keeps relying too heavily on the emeralds because Robotnik is getting increasingly more aggressive with his attacks, and Sonic’s friends notice that his overuse of the emeralds is starting to change his personality bit by bit. Maybe he tries to transform during an exceptionally dire battle where someone’s life is on the line and the stress/trauma acts as a catalyst the moment Sonic powers up, fully awakening the evil Super persona to everyone’s surprise. I’d be so fulfilled if we got to see that in a movie, and it’s actually a really interesting concept to explore that would feel fresh to fans and casuals alike.
@@LetsTalkAboutLifeForABit the best thing in this movie for me was when Tails hugs Sonic because he can't believe he finally made a friend. I legit almost started crying, Tails is so relatable.
@@_The_Traveler_ All of the Tails cuteness killed me, thoroughly. Yes, Jim Carey was a great Robotnik but I think, if people just focus on that, they miss out some of the small little easter eggs and nice monents. Shame we couldn't get a third movie, with Carey to see him complete the Eggman transformation.
It makes sense really. Sonic 1 is more low key, to bring in casual audiences, show they can make a good movie with the IP. Then when the audience response is good, the producers go "you liked that first movie? Gonna see a sequel? Good, then let's crank it up to 11!"
@@Colin-um5tz saw it on release, it's pretty good, both this and the first one. Got high hopes for the third one. A little sad that Jim Carrey is not gonna come back as Eggman tho
@@mgfcronaronithehomie5467 I mean, he could come back and play Eggman, but from what he said he wants to take a break from cinema in general, so we won't be seeing him for a while at least
So cool they brought out super sonic, tails, and the giant robotnik robot in the second movie just like they introduced them all in the second game all those years ago. I was thinking how cool it would be if they did all that, and they completely did it! The ones making these movies are really doing an awesome job.
@@spongebobsquarepants2981 I don't count Shadow as he wasn't a part of this movie. he was a teaser at the end. but regardless, seeing Shadow was very exciting
as a Dragon Ball fan i love how this was obviously inspired by the Super Saiyan form, even down to the red eyes which Super Saiyan was originally meant to have. looks good on Sonic
@@CoguhSTUDIO honestly i feel like both have grown into their own unique things, ssj went on to have grade forms, advanced forms if it (ssj2 and 3 even 4) while super form has shown to react well with positive emotions, has a dark version of it from the opposite and it can even drastically weaken sonic after multiple times of going jn and out of it with a tech virus
I never realized this, but at 4:38, you can see the heat coming off of Golden Sonic is actually melting the metal he is touching, you can see the metal dripping down the side of his gloves
Like man, Jim Carey is having a blast. He’s killing this Robotnic performance. All they need to do is give him a Fat suit for Sonic 3 and we’ve got the quintessential on-screen Eggman
I like how they kept the concept of (Chaos is power entrench by the heart.) Just like in sonic adventure sonic transfromed into super sonic with the postive energy coming from the bond with his friends. In the movie its due to Tom and Maddie's love and care for Sonic and how he sees them as family which is what activates the emeralds to help him transform. Really touching and badass moment!
8:52 Y'know, it's one thing to expect something WILL go wrong and you tell yourself that it's coming, but that expectation just ups the ante especially when Carrey is involved😂😂😂
I mean, Super Sonic always had that vibe since the original appearance in Sonic 2. lol DBZ didn't debut in the US yet at the time but Super Sonic was definitely inspired by the introduction of Super Saiyan. I would say that the animated fighting scene between Sonic and Metal Sonic also had similar DBZ vibes to it as well.
I think I fangirled so hard in the movie theater when I saw Sonic go super. It was just so nostalgic to see Super Sonic again. He looks so amazing! And the battles reminded me a lot the Sonic X battles with Super Sonic. It brought back so many wonderful memories seeing Super Sonic again. I'm super excited for the third movie with Shadow. I'm sure it'll be really great.
This movie is so awesome. If the one was the perfect live action adaptation from the game... this one is just... breathtaking, is like seeing the game characters come to life. Jim Carrey was born to interpret Robotnik
I swear i cried when i saw sonic go super, i knew damn well it was gonna happen but i was not ready for how i would feel. It just meant a lot to see this and I'm so happy to be a sonic fan these days
This was the best Sonic movie ever. I really enjoyed it the first time I watched it!! Of course, knowing the younger me, loving the parts of Sonic going Super.. this was excellent!
Just realised. Before he does the fingerpoke of doom, Sonic smacks in and out the Death Egg Robot 12 times. The same number of hits it had in Sonic 2. Really happy at that after they missed the 8 hit count in the first movie :D
I know that he hit Robotnik's vehicle more than 8 times int he first movie. But I get why they did that, and it still kind of worked for that fight. So I'm fine with it. But I do like that they managed to do exactly 12 hits in this fight.
The composer Tom Holkenborg also stole-- I mean, used Christopher Beck's composition from Ant-Man and the Wasp called 'I Shrink Therefore I Am' Is this guy lazy or something?
I used to play Sonic on SEGA when I was a kid, so I was hoping they'd show Super Sonic in this movie, especially when they started talking about the Chaos Emeralds. I like how they stayed true to the game in the movie, I hope there's a third.
I was going to say, everyone went crazy when Shadow showed up. Kind of makes you wonder what kind of mid credits scene they could possibly have after the third movie that would make the audience go crazy like that again...
There won’t be because this is LONG before they were a team. It literally wouldn’t make sense for a movie that depicts the second game in the entire series, to tell a reference joke to the 26th game in the series
@@Vixxie_Aerogosa And the next movie is supposed to depict the 3rd game in the entire series, which was the famous first appearance of Shadow, of course... Not to mention Knuckles wasn't in the second game either. The snowboard scene was also in Ice Cap, a zone from the 3rd game, not the 2nd. There was no reason to not slip a small Heroes pun in there.
@@Vixxie_Aerogosa This isn't an accurate depiction of the 2nd game though, it incorporates a lot of details introduced in the 2nd game yes. But it also has Knuckles as a main character, a dude who wasn't invented until the 3rd game. They could easily slip in a couple second easter egg from a future game in the series. Do you really think they are gunna wait 24 movies until they make A SINGLE Sonic Heroes reference???? They make an eggmans mean bean machine reference, even tho that game wouldn't be released at this point
I feel like Sonic was slowing down so they could stick together. I believe in a one-on-one race, Sonic would be much faster. The only moment that was really weird was the temple fight. Where Sonic had a head start and Knuckles was still able to catch up to Sonic. That was a bit weird.
What goes up must come down Yet my feet don't touch the ground See the world spinning upside down A mighty crash without a sound I can feel your every rage Step aside, I'll turn the page Breaking through your crazy maze Like a laser beam, my eyes on you Watch me rule the night away Watch me save the day Feel my storm is getting close Headed your way Sonic heroes, Sonic heroes Bind you, confine you Defying your reign Sonic heroes, Sonic heroes Setting the stage For a heroes parade!!!!!
Here's another one for you. The guys in the beginning of the movie that Robotnik fights off before Knuckles shows up were in the prequel comic to the Sonic 2 movie. Guess who else was in that comic. Vector, Espio and Charmy. Could this mean we're getting a Team Chaotix later on? If so, then we just need Team Dark and Team Rose, and then we'll have Sonic Heroes.
I always thought it was odd how Sonic was always known for his speed but the speed of other characters like Tails, Knuckles, Rose, Mighty, etc, etc who can keep up with him is never lampshaded.
I mean they aren't quite as fast as he is, Sonic needs to slow down to keep pace with them. Like how earlier in the movie we saw Knuckles taking a while to catch up to a standard cop car.
They aren't nearly as fast, Sonic is slowing down, he can catch up to them in a flash, like here 1:17 In fact, Knuckles in this movie is barely faster than a police car, while Tails is at most as fast as a bullet train based on his entrance
When Sonic went Super Sonic it brought tears to my eyes since I grew up playing Sonic back in the day. Best part of the movie. Just hope to see more Super Sonic in the third film 😌👌🏻
@@Max-eu9fp While I don't think that's going to happen (I think we're just going to get Super Sonic and Super Shadow fighting against a common threat like in the games), I could see there being an initial fight between the two early on in the third movie.
