@GemTheDumDum speaking of lost characters/designs here are some who never made it past the cutting room floor: the design that would be know as mr.needlemouse, an alternative take on knuckles sprites in a demo, sonic surfing in said demo, terios the hedgehog/proto shadow 1-4, proto rouge that would inspire blaze the cat, other species designs for cream the rabbit, more emeral/gizoid looking desings for the robot in the sonic x tie-in comic & that's all I can think of now
@@O-AbandonedAccount-O "Feels" is not an official name, it was a name fans gave him because one of Ristar's (another SEGA game) prototype names was "Feel", and Ristar's whole concept is based around the original idea of Sonic with this rabbit, stretch his arms (in the rabbit's case ears) to grab things and enemies However, when asked on Twitter, Ohshima said that in 1991 he might have named the rabbit "Max", so people who calls him Max are not wrong
2:27 Mighty is not one of the scrapped concept art of Sonic, according to Mighty's and Ray's creator Manabu Kusunoki, he needed to design 2 characters that played simillar to Sonic and since Hedgehogs were an obscure animal he decided to take 2 obscure animals to match Sonic, so he chose an Armadillo and a Flying Squirrel
God it slightly angers me whenever someone says Feels is the name of the rabbit. FEEL IS THE OLD NAME FOR RISTAR! THE RABBITS NAME IS R E T O! Now you might say, "but what about Maxs?" Well, as implied by the DMs, Maxs was the early concept name, and Reto was the later concept name. Hope this clears up a few things about the rabbit! Call him whatever you want, but at least try to name him correctly. Tldr Feel = RISTAR and Reto = Rabbit

though ill still call him feels, i do have a headcanon true name, (in my headcanon feels is his nickname kinda like how sonic is in the comics or how tails is the nickname of miles) so technicly, his full name in my headcanon is Reto "Feels" Maximum
I had seen the message before watching this video, and I always figured "Reto" was just Oshima misspelling the word retro since English isn't his first language, like him saying "Is this retro now?" as in "Are people interested in this old-school piece of Sonic history now?". He did capitalize it though, which may mean he meant it as another name. Idk. I'm used to calling him Max but now this video is making me wonder if it should be Reto, seeing as (if Oshima wasn't misspelling retro) the way the text was worded might imply it was used later in development. Sidenote: Idk if his playthrough will be considered canon since you have to swap Sonic out to play as him, but at least we know the Max/Reto himself is canon thanks to IDW (you can see him in "Sonic Learns to Drive"). It might be like how Origins lets you play as everyone in all the games, even if it doesn't make canonical sense. (Like, why would Knuckles be on South Island fighting Eggman when he's supposed to be guarding the Master Emereald?). The important thing is: he's canon, and he's playable. Even if his playthrough isn't canon, the boi himself is. I pre-ordered the Digital Deluxe on Switch, and I can't wait to blast through the game as Max/Reto after all these years! Now all I need to do is buy $80 dollars worth of participating products at Kroger to get those cell shaded skins... also, SUPER MAX/RETO MIGHT BE A THING I AM SO HYPED
Alright ima say it ima call it feels I respect y’all’s opinion but it dosent have that same ring to it and Usially the names for these characters are Unique Name the Animal so I feel like Feels is just better name and if so I’d make it retro if it couldn’t be feels
Feels, Dash, Bam, Max, Reto, Rabbit. So many names, it leaves me confused, even though I've always called him "Feels The Rabbit", I think it's better -_-
He's usually called feels I would go crazy if sega let idw work feels the rabbit & terios into the story of classic & modern respectively like Maybe feels existing in the dream world with enimes & the bumble bee like robotnik design as an omag to how sonic 1 was once gonna take place in a world of nightmares or terios being what eggman creates if he gets ahold of surge & creates a lifeforms of his own(terios was swapped out with shadow the hedgehog before SA2 was finished, explaining why g.u.n. thinks shadow is sonic in the game.)
@@jameshargrove5319 God that's a lot of stuff but I know about the Terios part wich was the original design of Shadow for SA2 and he looked more Sonic like and that's why everyone mistakes Shadow for Sonic in SA2 so I guess they switched his design last second and then that led up to 06 where Amy mistakes Silver for Sonic even though they look nothing alike.

not anymore, fans gave him that name (it was originally intended for Ristar) and Oshima has confirmed this year that we can call him Max, or Reto if you prefer. things are going to be a lot more confusing, everybody correcting everybody
