i saw green eyes and a black background outside of the green eyes and as they entered the special stage the eyes turned black (you could see it right) on 0:21
5:55 Interesting how corruptions tend to result in showing otherwise unused sprites and objects, like for this sprite of Sonic’s end of act jumping animation, shown in prerelease media.
It’s not real surprising but it is indeed interesting, since, out of all those sprites (Well, I guess the way it works is it can only get a sprite from a certain group, in this case, Sonic’s sprites, and can’t just get a mega sprite like a boss or somethin.), it chose that specific one.
This video's thumbnail reminds me of a memory I have; A long time ago, I played Sonic on a plug and play console and activated Debug Mode before i entered a Special Stage. I would usually enter free movement mode, move to the Chaos Emerald, then revert back to Sonic while on top of it. For whatever reason, the game would play Sonic's unused “victory jump” animation, freezing at the last frame as the maze started spinning quickly. I tried doing this using a compiled ROM file from the disassembly, but I haven't seen that animation play since, even in the assembled ROM… I swear i saw this happen with my own eyes, but nothing I've looked at has told me that it's real. Am i just misremembering this, or does a specific ROM revision do this?
