Sonic The Hedgehog IDW Annual 2022 

Man the sheer amount of character development we got in just these few pages really kinda saddens me for what the games have lacked in recent years.

I’m hoping that Silver and Blaze both get their own mini-series in the future. A great way to expand both their worlds.

Story 1: Adorable, I loved Blaze finally taking a break Story 2: Omega and Gemerl earning each others respect was amazing! Story 3: Cream finally gets her time to shine and gets to show off how amazing she is at being a hero! Story 4: Silver bonding with Espio was just *chefs kiss* perfection Story 5: JET AND WHISPER INTERACTING?! WHISPER YELLING AND ON EXTREME GEAR?! I am now proud to say that I will die happy Story 6: Rough and Tumble just being brothers is beautiful, and I love when Tangle looked betrayed, it was just hilarious

Wow, Sonic characters actually interacting with each other? Acting like ACTUAL CHARACTERS with thoughts, feelings, fears, hopes, and personalities? Who'd thought that was possible? Except maybe... everyone who isn't Sega? Seriously, this annual, and the comics as a whole, are proof that when put in the hands of COMPETENT writers, Sonic can have good, if not great stories. Now if Ian can bring even a fraction of this level of storytelling and character interaction to Frontiers, then maybe, JUST maybe, Sonic can finally start to break his losing streak when it comes to the games.

I’m so glad that someone actually remembers Espio and Silver’s friendship, also Espio’s words were pretty motivating

Okay, the Silver and Espio story is the best one in my opinion for several reasons (and by several, I mean three.) One: it continues the story of Silver having a garden from the first annual. Two: I find it fun that it focuses on these two specifically because they were partners in rivals 2. And three: it has the most emotion out of any of these stories, and I found myself almost crying for how good it is at capturing the character’s feelings. Plus, the remix of planet wisp add to the atmosphere tremendously. The Rough and Tumble story is my second favorite because I love how those two are portrayed.

This kinda makes me sad that we will likely never get this level of character interaction in the games because iTs OnLy gAmEpLaY tHaT MaTtErS and sOnIc iS jUst A CaRtoOn. I know Ian Flynn is working on Frontiers but I'm not holding my breath (of the wild).

This was an amazing read! I loved all the stories which were all different in their own right! I especially loved the Blaze, Cream, Silver, and Omega stories. My favorite interactions were Blaze and Marine, Cream overtaking Orbot and Cubot as camp leaders and leading the kid charge to take them out and tie them down, and finally Espio noticing Silver sneak away from the garden party and follow him while turning invisible to comfort him on his troubled thoughts. This annual was about as fun as last year's. 🤩

Blaze is always good to see, and it's nice to have someone Knuckles can relate to again. Some of those shots of Blaze are seriously badass. Just walking on lava like it's no big deal. Was also great seeing Omega and Gemeral have some time together and become bros since they usually don't get to interact with other robots unless it's to blow them up.

I love how Rouge Trick em all, and Whisper letting Jet looking like a fool. These two girls are amazing!

What an amazing annual this was! So much more happy and wholesome than the 2020 one. Such cute little stories and the art and facial expressions didn't disappoint. Was awesome seeing Marine, Blaze, Silver, Whisper, Rough, Tumble, Rouge and Tangle again! Hope we see them again in the future.

About time that Marine showed up. She needs to be involved more.

Well. I never thought that i Will see blaze and silver having problems adapting to peaceful times. Then again, these two were always in some sort of crisis regarding their respective worlds: Blaze needs to protect the sol dimension and the sol emeralds from any threat, she fought her entire life to get rid of the scumbags that plauged her world. But now that the threat is over, she doesn't know what to do. Naturally marine gives her the idea of talking to someone that understands her struggles, and that someone Is knuckles. The two have a talk and thanks to it our princess of fire gets back to the sol dimension to have the sol emeralds secured at coral cave with lots of guards protecting them. If something happens,marine will call her highness back through the jeweled scepter. Let me just say that blaze earned her vaication. Now silver. Is a whole another story: Ever since he was born, silver had to continually fight eldritch abominations of fire or some other threat that ravaged his future. Some of the threats he faced are: iblis, the ifrit, the sonic forces war and finally the metal virus saga. After the last battle involving him and sonic destroying the virus, silver went back to his future to find it peaceful. No longer was it a raveged land of metal, but a futuristic beautyful utopia full of life. Although, now we see him struggling to accept this new status Quo. Our psychic hedgehog has always been on the move, looking for the next catastrophe that ravaged his future. It was his job, his purpose. But now he doesn't know what to do. Luckily for him, espio comes in to give him a much needed pep talk involving the psychic hero trusting in his friends. After that pep talk, silver thanks espio for his kind and reasurring words by hugging the ninja chameleon, and going back to the harvest. I'll say that silver needs to relax now that his future isn't in danger.

When Omega mentioned Cream and Vanilla it turned personal Also I knew when Cubot said that their scheme would be easy because they were kid it woul get chaotic

I like that Omega and Gemerl have a brotherhood

This issue made me smile a lot of times, its brilliantly written!

Seeing Knuckles and Blaze actually interact warms my heart. They were my first ship as a kid, and the only one I'll ever admit to 😂😂😂

The characters relationships were on point mmmmmm I LIKE IT 1.-Blaze and Knuckles talk is on point knowing the duty of both. 2.-Omega and Gemerl being bro is the best thing ever. And also make me hope to see an arc where the robots like the main characters. Metal Sonic narrative, Gemer past, Omega duty of destroy eggman, and now we have a new character for this. Heck, even they can add something of gamma or even Shadow, using Gerald Robotnik as the main focus for all this characters to interact. 3.-Cream is so cute jesus christ. 4.-Ok, Silver and Espio is a relationship that we last see in Sonic Rival...and I love it that IDW brought it back. 5.-Jet and Whisper is something I never expected, but I like it. I am surprise for Whisper, she looks less shy and more expresive for her emotions. Her friendship with Tangle is making effect. 6.-Very funny chapter, Rouge and Tangle were a surprise for sure but a very welcome one.

Jeez Louise, love these writers. Ian Flynn is my favorite Sonic writer, you can't tell me otherwise. My favorite ones were the ones with Blaze & Knuckles, Omega & Gemerl, and Silver & Espio. Although I do have one question, where do some of these stories this take place from, after Sonic, Tails, & Belle escape from Eggman's city or before issue 49?

Huh, well, this sure was interesting and entertaining. Also, I didn’t think that these stories wouldn’t have any specific placement within the grand story, but based on what Amy was talking about in Blaze’s Story, does that mean that Blaze and potentially Silver will be around to help out with the coming Surge problem? I guess, we’ll see.

I just adore this annual for filling us in seeing so many awesome character interactions! The best ones of course in my opinion either being ones we haven't seen in a long time or ones we have never seen ever in any official piece of Sonic media. My personal favorites being Blaze & Marine, Blaze & Knuckles, Blaze & Cream, Gemerl & Omega, Espio & Silver, and lastly Rouge & Tangle! 🤩✊🔥

Omega&Gemerl and Rough&Tumble ones are defo my favorites. Former due to how intense the banter was, latter due to how adorable they were

This annual reminds me of the one they published in 2019; Nothing major happens or relates to the main story, Certain things could be foreshadowing and the biggest highlights of this annual is obviously characters interaction. Guardians: While this is an Blaze story; Knuckles the best part for me (and others if your an Knuckles fan) because this fit so well with his character that shows his devotion, integrity and his big heart to others without making him an comedy relief, destorying his character and instead gives him someone that can relate his problems. While, Blaze's world is shown to peaceful for now; I may feel like something else is going on that we don't know and it involves around the pirates. Did they all team up together to fight Blaze and waiting for the time to strike? Is there an new threat that could be deadly than her? I don't know but this isn't the end of Blaze's story or her world; Maybe it will be explore later on. Weapons: To me; this is my favorite interactions because it really highlights Gemerl and Omega viewpoint to each others while adding more layers to their character rather than makes them one-note. But I'll have to talk about their character in another video. Hero Camp: Cream definitely shows her badass in this story; She not only an fighter but have other skills such as being an leader which makes sense since she has the most experience when it comes to fighting. Also this personally question of mine; Where and Why wasn't Charmy invited to this Hero Camp? I know he's detective and probably an child soldier since he been in an war but he's the same age as Cream and would've like to see how charmy and cream interacts with each other. Would he have been Cream's second in command? Would've saw Orbot and Cubot disguise the second he saw them? Also I got Kamp Krusty vibe from this story. Future Growth: Sliver and Espio interacted don't comes out of nowhere (Sonic Rival 2) and like Blaze's story; His story is about finding tranquility with difficult situations could happens while another character reflects their personality. Also Sliver pretty interacted with all of the Chaotix members; Vector (Team Sonic Racing), Espio and Knuckles (Sonic Forces Comic) if you count him. The only character he don't interacted with is Charmy and maybe that won't be long; If we don't get Mighty back, I get the feelings Sliver could takes his place from time to time. Another Grand Adventure for Jet the Hawk: Whisper is someone I didn't except to see in this story but I'm not complaining. She still doing the lone wolf (pun intended) with her Whisps while fighting robots (Exactly what Eggman doing with leaving an giant robot in middle of the forest?). I think one of Jet's main flaw is his entitlement to others that he think he's better than most peoples. And he so annoying that he pissed off Whisper and Sonic (Mario and Sonic Olympic). Maybe one day, He will learned that if he wants admiration; Actions speak louder than words (Sonic IDW #28). Rough Patch: Rough and Tumble are equivalent to Behop and Rocksteady and there always fun to see so I can't really said much about them. A part of me still wish that they still have different personality traits instead of being one character but I don't want to be nitpicky and I like how their are now. Rogue pretty shows her devious side once again and this is why you don't trust her and Tangle learns that hard way. Sorry, Tangle no good goes unpunished. Overall this annual was good in my opinon and nothing ground breaking but I would read again. So far this year, Everyone has an moment/chance to shines and shows their best quality.........except for Shadow (Damn Mandate). So either, We going to see him after #52 or the writers going to avoids writing him again for the rest of this year.

I cried at some points, but I have to say I cried the most at the end of Guardians. Rest in Pieces: Pirates of the Sol Dimension, Captain Whisker and Johnny. Anyway, the Silver and Espio one was wholesome. I found it a good idea since the two were partners in Rivals. And Rough and Tumble fighting was heartbreaking. 😭😭

All I'm gunna say is in this comic silver kinda acts like fandub 06 silver and I think that is really funny but this is a great annual comic definitely worth the wait

The best annual I’ve read, I just wish Marine came with Blaze into Sonic’s world and interact with other characters, my favorites were Blaze & Knuckles, Silver & Espio, Jet & Whisper, and Omega & Gemerl, so Silver can travel back and forth to the present anytime he wants?

I love when Whisper tries to ride a hoverboard it was adorable.

I really like this issue so much of everything happen. We got to see blaze and knuckles have an interaction with each other discussing their burdens and responsibilities. Silver has a bit existential crisis and some Silver and Espio moment. Gemeral and Omega have combat and their respective discussions on robot roles. Whisper and Jet was cool. I love this issue.

Am I the only person shocked it was Jet's birthday and his dad's apparently alive? Also I know I should just accept it and not think about it but the more I think about how Silver's time travel works the more confused I get

Blaze & Knuckles - We're living in dark times, people. As of now, even MARINE is more responsible than Sonic. MARINE!!! Omega & Gemerl - I'm almost certain that Omega only called the Rabbit family "puny" to coax Gemerl into unleashing his full power. Cream & the Sonic Fan Club - Okay, in this art style the red-furred fox girl that constantly argues with the Club President looks very much like a little girl version of Fiona Fox's post-betrayal design. Silver & Espio - These two have actually teamed up before in Rivals 2; but this is still the first time we've seen their relation be explored since then, and I appreciate that. Jet & Whisper - Eh... nah, as it stands, Jet is still a bigger jerk than Sonic. Still, he's SUPPOSED to be like that. Rouge & Tangle - Once again, Tangle's an idiot. Then again; people really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, REALLY need to stop putting Chaos Emeralds in museums. I mean, seriously! These emeralds contain tremendous power! There ought to be a LAW against putting them up for public display! lol

Easily my favorite annual so far. Lots of fun moments for every character. From Omega and Gemerl bonding over beating each other to Tangle's pure face of sadness at the betrayal, this was a great ride.

I have to say that was great to see characters return, wholesome, adorable, funny, going through tough times thing, purpose, funny again, and loved it. My favorites two parts for Annual 2022 was where Omega and Gemerl went for "sparring", I liked it where they have talk about their own purpose in their lives and later, they ended up getting damage and they accepted each other's acknowledgement (Respect! Even though it was a sparring match). My second part is how whisper and jet interacted because jet talks to much and whisper is the quiet type

What;s amazing about this annual are the rare interactions from pair ups you don't normally see in games or the comics. -Blaze and Knuckles surprised me a bit since I never seen them interact before in the games but they are surprisingly very similar to one another and both understand each other as well...which is pretty cool. -Cream going to summer camp with Orbot and Cubots as counsolars was pretty amusing AND silly. -Espio and Silver: Also similar but one provides great knowledge for the other regarding anixety and fear for the future is sweet. -Jet and Whisper? Wow. That an even RARER pairing since these two are polar opposites of each other. I like this interaction. -Finally Rouge/Tumble and Rough/Tangle.........VERY odd pairs but sweet in a odd way. ^^ I love this annual. :D

I'll be honest.. I kept repeating on watching this video becuz I love how you move the pages and make a good sound effect. It's like I'm watching a slideshow series lol. Anyways, much to say on my favourite parts: 1. My number one is always Future Growth with Silver and Espio. I was surprised their friendship has finally shown up in this comic and I love it so much. This is like I'm watching my favourite underated characters have finally got their spotlight. I like how Espio is the one who noticed and helps Silver to relieve from stress. Their story is very wholesome and I want to see that again in the game. 2. Gemerl and Omega. I know Omega's strong but I like how they have their own differences. And its nice to see Gemerl staying loyal to the rabbits and how he fights to evolve and protect while Omega is still Omega. Their respectful fist made me smile a lot. 3. Blaze and Knuckles. I like how Blaze's first person to ask around is Knuckles, instead of Sonic. And I find it the best choice becuz they're both responsible for guarding a sacred jewel and an island on their lives. I never see them talk so much and I'm glad they got along so well like how they respect each other. Also, I'm glad Marine is back and she's not a forgotten character. And she's also helpful in this story too. Sad that she's not going to meet Cream. Speaking of that... 3. I think Cream without cheese is the second time I see in this annual and I like how she stands herself. But seeing her hang out with the other kids made me realize Cream is one of the youngest hero and the most polite of all. Like she always come up with good solutions on her own and I like how she unties the rope part becuz of her hero experience with Sonic. 4. Rouge and Tangle. The first time I met those skunk brothers in the third comic, I always thought his name was Rouge but it was Rough. And I like the fact their names look similar with Rouge/Rough and Tangle/Tumble lol. As much as I like the drawing colours of Jet's story part, I don't like how he treats as a bait and get captured by that robot so easily just to give Whisper's spotlight. Even the last part didn't made him release and saw his food getting half cold. I know its for Whisper but, can OC characters like Jet deserve a good chapter? I don't know.. maybe I'll wait next time.. But anyways, I know every issue was focusing on new characters nowadays but this annual.. I love it again becuz those characters... I miss them so much. Thank u for uploading this annual again.. keep up a good work.

You know. I'm surprised that whisper doesn't know how to ride an extreme gear. As jet put it, EVERYONE knows how to ride an extreme gear. But it seems our adorable cinnamon roll of a puppy doesn't know how. How much do you bet that its because of the location the diamond cutters base is located in, they must be that isolated if none of them know how to ride an extreme gear.

For Cream! 😭😭😭 IDW is spoiling me rn Okay now that I’m done geeking out, here are my highlights from this annual: - wholesome guardian talk - “RESPECT” fist bump - Hero Camp. The ENTIRE👏 THING👏 -The STUNNER that is the first page of Future Growth - Vector chasing Charmy (look at the bee boy’s face! 🤣🤣🤣) -Espio helping Silver calm down (man the style difference of the tiny doodles made me giggle) -speaking of art, the entire Future Growth mini comic is STUNNING!!!!! Love it love it love it!!! -Silver hugging Espio. Super duper wholesome. Can Espio be hugged more, please? -JET HAS A FATHER?!?!?! -the face of a wisp caught in the act. 🤣 priceless! -again, that wisp has some GOOD facial expressions! -angry whisper. Definitely don’t see it often enough. Would love to see it more, tho. - Rough. On fire. That’s it. - the fact that rough and tumble missed each other so much that their new partners in crime were the people with the most similar names 🥹 cuuuuute -B R O . . . -okay, but can I have an ACTUAL Rouge and Tangle team up in a future comic please? … Nevermind. I’m just saying, I took one look at the Hero Camp and I could already tell that it was fishy. Edit: OK we all knew cream was awesome, after all she’s fought many Eggman machines, and even helped defeat Metal Overlord, but this comic pretty much certified that she is not to be underestimated. Honestly she should join G.U.N when she’s older, if she can already do always at the age of six she would make an excellent agent.

Unfortunately my local comic shop wasn't selling this for whatever reason, so I'll have to read it here. Glad to see that everyone's happy with these character based stores. I feel that IDW gets too much flack from people at times. Their Sonic comics are actually really good ... as long as it's not that arc with Sonic, Tails, and Amy trapped in a white void for four issues. lol

Silver Sonic, I recommending you to use the music Sonic Rush Adventure - Deep Core Clear in the pages where Blaze says goodbye to Marine and Gardon.
