Just in case those who don't understand the reference to the "portal rings", in the original 1991 Sonic the Hedgehog and a few of the other Genesis era Sonic games, there are giant rings you jump through to access the Special Stages. :)
Well, the Warp rings seem to be a reference to the warp rings in the Archie comics. Those rings allowed sonic and his friends to teleport around Mobius. So, they might be the same rings. I haven't read any of the comics, though, so I am just going off of what I know.
@@robertopayne7033 Warp Rings in the games do the exact same thing as in the Archie comics. Only difference is in the games (Sonic 1, CD, and Sonic 3 &Knuckles) Warp Rings take you to the Special Stages. I was making this comment because I heard so many people say they're copying Doctor Strange's ability, but it's not. It's just referencing the use of Warp Rings. It also refers to the Sonic Mania opening animation where we see Sonic traveling to Zones via Warp Rings. It's a fantastic use for Rings in the movie.
I gotta commend Paramount and everyone involved with this movie for actually listening to the issues. Cuz not only does Sonic look miles better. This movie honestly looks like a ton of fun.
I agree, they even fixed the humor they got it right now. It can be a awkward thing for studios listening to fans and what they want "expect", because what does that say for "creative freedom" of artists at end of the day. BUT when the internet is blowing up with memes and everyone just laughing at you and what you've done to such a iconic video-game character, you know you should be very worried. And i think thats what happened with Paramount, but yes what matters now is they fixed it and stayed true to Sonic and their movie deserves to do well now.
Hey Movie Couple, loved your reaction and here’s my input. 1) Dustin was right as it cost $5M to redesigned Sonic. The reason why it wasn’t so costly was because they never finished all the CGI effects in the movie, otherwise it would’ve cost probably more than double. 2) In order to improve Sonic’s design, they brought on board a veteran Sonic designer who had a hand in both the comics and games. 3) I do not think they re-did the live shots of Jim Carrey as Sonic was (and needed to be) the bigger priority. 4) Jim Carrey’s persona is too reminiscent of his Ace Ventura days, and this level of lightheartedness is sorely missed. That was just my insight and yada yada. Love your reactions and I too will be seeing this movie opening day.
Dustin is telling the truth Wendy the studio paid an extra 5 million dollars to redesign sonic throughout the whole film. They got one of the game designers from sonic Mania to do it.
No the designer for this version of Sonic is the guy who designed him for the comic. That's why this version of Sonic has more the body proportions from the comic than from the games.
1:09 I'm not surprised that the redesign costed 5 Million Dollars honestly, Because they're making a CGI character, AND redesigning it, so it's kinda obvious that it costed that amount of money.
I'll be honest, when the 1st trailer came out, I thought the character design for Sonic looked terrible, and this movie looked very juvenile. Now that the new trailer is out, still think the movie is very juvenile (as it should be), but really like the new design for Sonic. Think I may go pay to see this movie simply out of respect for all the hard work the design and CGI crew did.
This new trailer is way better than the first one! I think we should all support the movie because they listen to the fans. Also I saw you Wendy in a car commercial when I was in the movie theater.
There was a rumor that Paramount spend $35 million on the redesign, but IndieWire confirm it was $5 million. The movie's total budget is $95 million. I really love the redesign. He looks like Sonic now. Also the trailer was better put together, including song choice.
Considering that the redesign of Sonic speaks to the struggles Paramount is going through with trying to make money on movies to start new franchises and trying to get back into the Top 5 Domestic Studios Marketshare, which they’ve lost since 2012, we gotta make sure this movie is a success.
I don't have anybody to exchange "Happy Thanksgiving!"s with this evening, but you guys did make me happy, so I wish you both a very wonderful Thanksgiving =)
They'll make back the extra overhead for re-doing the CGI for sonic easy. Considering how much they stood to lose due to the backlash they got. It won't be as successful as detective pikachu, but at least it won't flop now that they redesigned Sonic.
5 million to have the Visual Effects Team go back to re do Sonic. The rest of the move wasn't done when with Visual effects with the first trailer. That's what happens what is done first goes to trailer.
From what Corridor Crew, who does the great and bad cgi comparison videos says, they had to completely work from the ground up on the animation. They even hired one of the designers of the games to consult on the redesign
It took the internet to tell the people that made the first trailer to change it People and artist draw better than the people who spent more than $5 billion It’s true what Dustin said
the complete redesign, the better dialogue (no meow) in that short a time? I am starting to believe the theory that the first trailer was intentionally bad and this is some weird marketing strategy.
I do hope, while I’m glad Paramount listened, I hope it doesn’t set a precedent for studios having to cave to toxic fandom. Disney is trying really hard to avoid that with Star Wars, but, if The Rise of Skywalker underperforms and this succeeds, they may have to start figuring out what to do, otherwise they’ll be caving to a toxic fandom who wants The Last Jedi remade and wants Game of Thrones Season 7 remade, too.
Jim Carey didn't like them for falling into the fans 'pressure' as well as the redesign. Not a fan of Jim Carey esp with how narcissistic he is and how nasty he is to Trump. People don't need to be like that.
