Kristen and Vivian react to Sonic the Hedgehog, a live-action adaptation of the popular video game franchise. The film stars Ben Schwartz (Parks and Recreation, DuckTales, & House of Lies) as the voice of Sonic, a super-fast alien hedgehog who teams up with a small-town sheriff (James Marsden - X-Men, Enchanted, & Westworld) to stop an evil genius (Jim Carrey - The Mask, Ace Ventura, & Dumb and Dumber) from capturing him and using his power for world domination.

With the perfect combination of Sonic and Jim Carrey, any 90’s kid would agree it’s impossible not to have fun with this movie. Also I freaking love how Sonic acts just like me and my friends did when we were kids, running around everywhere, never shutting up, and always trying to have fun with friends.🤣🤣🤣

James Marsden never gets enough credit. He combines the chiseled hero with the comedic straightman with the rare ability to act opposite a non-existent character. He first demonstrated this in Enchanted and then Hop. In Hop he acted opposite the son of the Easter Bunny, voiced by Russel Brand. The wrong live actor can pull you out of the movie, but he can pull off the everyman in a romcom or partly animated with equal talent.

I had the same feelings for this after watching the Super Mario movie. Good adaptation of the film and I like the direction they are going for the future films. Jim Carrey absolutely carried this though.

In the first sonic trailer, (if I recall correctly) Sonic looked awful and everyone hated it. Then the studio spent a lot to make the change and all this ended up being positive attention for the film

I must say I was very surprised when I first saw this. I think I just expected a movie for small children or something but it ended up being quite entertaining. I wasn't as impressed with the second one but that could just be me. It was still a fun watch for sure. Super glad they changed Sonic's look. I'm normally all for realism and stuff like that but it just looked so wrong. Jim Carrey was insanely good.

i mean i would have liked jaleel white to voice sonic again but that's probably a minority opinion. they had to add enough to make a coherent movie without making absolutely everything cgi that it doesn't feel like an adaptation of the games, but that is fine. sonic games have enough unrelated timelines we can slot this in its own timeline unrelated to any games without feeling off.

Yeah, this was the movie where the first trailer hit and people absolutely lost their minds over how bad the character design for Sonic looked. You could tell that they were trying way too hard to make him look "real," so they emphasized the rodent features of his face and gave him these really muscular legs. And god, they even gave him human teeth. It was such a visually unsettling departure from his appearance in the games that there was this massive backlash and they had to push the movie's release back six months to fix it. To their credit, they actually listened to the fans, and it paid off in the end because it was a box office success and has now spawned two sequels and a spin-off streaming series.

So glad that after the trailer came out they delayed the move a bit and redid the character design for Sonic. The original design they had looked like a generic (copyright safe) sonic inspired stuffed toy.
